Background

Yun Xiao was a disciple of the Sect of Interception and a direct disciple of Sect Master Tongtian. She opposed Dingguang Immortal's proposal to abolish the sect's heavenly rules, believing the sect needed unity before the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation. 10

She had once been close to Ling Xiao, but distanced herself after he was crippled while sorting the Sect of Interception's karmic slaughter. After Ling Xiao rebuilt his foundation, severed karma with the sect, and rose as the Great Emperor of the Azure Radiance, Yun Xiao repeatedly attempted to restore their former relationship. 49 435

Her rejections damaged her Dao Heart and developed into an obsession. She pursued increasingly dangerous methods to become strong enough to reclaim Ling Xiao's affection, ultimately using the Sect of Interception's forbidden body-into-array art. 80 141 146

Appearance

Yun Xiao is described as a peerlessly beautiful female immortal with a slender figure and a usually cold, refined bearing. Her body-into-array cultivation left visible marks of its cost. 148 150 254

  • Often wears a long white gown. 146
  • During her cultivation in the Netherworld Blood Sea, her hair became white and her face pale. 148
  • Formation patterns and strange runes spread across her skin, flesh, and meridians after she fused formations into her body. 146 148
  • Her later battles left her heavily wounded, with Dao Wounds throughout her body and nearly depleted origin. 562

Personality

Yun Xiao was originally meticulous, proud, and focused on cultivation. She cared deeply about the Sect of Interception's standing and was willing to oppose fellow disciples when she believed their decisions endangered the sect. 10 251

Her regret over abandoning Ling Xiao in his weakest period became an enduring fixation. She repeatedly humbled herself, offered treasures, ignored humiliation, and accepted terrible physical pain in the hope of winning him back. Her attachment repeatedly destabilized her Dao Heart. 49 151 174 254

Despite this obsession, Yun Xiao remained fiercely devoted to her sisters and sect. She gave Bi Xiao the Golden Flood Dragon Scissors, attempted to rescue Bi Xiao from Demon Lord Jidu, and knelt to plead for Bi Xiao's life. 409 437 445 446

After being guided by Our Lady of Wudang, Yun Xiao acknowledged that her romantic fixation had become a weakness and resolved to prioritize the sect. Later, she chose to sever her thought of desire toward Ling Xiao rather than continue humiliating herself. 476 677

Unable to overcome Ling Xiao through ordinary cultivation, Yun Xiao used the forbidden body-into-array technique. She fused the Nine Bend Yellow River Formation into herself, then traveled to the Netherworld Blood Sea to learn and integrate further formations. 146 148
