Background

Ling Xiao was once an upright and highly contributing disciple of the Sect of Interception. He entered the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation to suppress its killing qi and resolve the sect's accumulated karmic slaughter, but the ordeal exhausted his origin, left him covered in Dao wounds, and cost him his Golden Immortal cultivation. He also established the Heavenly Rules of Interception, which restrained the sect's increasingly unruly disciples. 1 9 109

When he opposed the sect's course during the approaching Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, Tongtian, Duobao, Dingguang Immortal, Lu Ya, and other disciples turned against him. Branded a cripple and a traitor, Ling Xiao recognized that the sect intended to discard him as an obstacle and chose to leave. 1

Ling Xiao publicly severed his karma with both Tongtian and the Sect of Interception, scattering his Heavenly Dao Merit and calling upon the Heavenly Dao as witness. He stripped away everything connected to the Shangqing Dao techniques and departed Kunlun Mountain without retaliating against the disciples who mocked him. 2
