Ziwei was once humiliated and used as a saint's pawn before fortune changed. He became Haotian's vassal and friend, reincarnated as Bo Yikao during the Investiture of the Gods Calamity, and ultimately attained the position of Great Emperor Ziwei. 482 500

After Haotian feigned death during the war that shattered the Thirty-three Heavens, Ziwei believed his sovereign had perished. He consolidated the surviving Nine Heavens, moved the Lingxiao Treasure Hall to the Ziwei Star, and ruled from the Ziwei Central Heavenly Court. 342 482 496 Though widely condemned as a usurper, he stabilized the fractured heavens and was revered in myriad mortal realms as a god who bestowed blessings. 504

Over tens of thousands of years, Ziwei cultivated the Ziwei Star System into an Ultimate Emperor Weapon and laid foundations throughout multiple realms. His central ambition was to reconstruct the Investiture of the Gods, bind the immortals and gods under his authority, merge the Nine Heavens, and use their combined power to prove the Primordial Dao Ancestor realm. 345 378 482 504

Ziwei killed Great Emperor Qing and secretly nurtured the Eternal Green Lotus within the Ziwei Star. He considered his descendant Ji Wuhen a prospective successor, but someone took the lotus before Ji Wuhen could receive it. Ziwei investigated the theft through the river of time. 386 459

He identified Su Changqing as both a threat and a valuable asset. Ziwei tested him, tried to bring him under his control through his daughter Ji Zi, and arranged events that could place Su on the Investiture of the Gods. 344 349 361 As the Nine Heavens fell into conflict, Ziwei instructed Yin Shi King to ensure Su was killed before he could return to Fang Cun Mountain. 479

Cornered alongside his sworn brother Great Emperor Gouchen, Ziwei mobilized the entire Ziwei Star System to buy Gouchen's life. Su Changqing subsequently turned against both brothers and absorbed the star system into the Changqing Realm. 502 503 Ziwei then revealed that his reconstruction of the Investiture of the Gods had ultimately been intended to welcome Haotian's return and preserve Gouchen. Abandoned by Haotian and betrayed by Su Changqing, he dispersed himself into starlight and left the fate of the Nine Heavens to them. 504

Despite that disappearance, Ziwei later appeared alongside Ji Xingyue, Blood God Great Emperor, and other reinforcements from the Nine Realms. The circumstances of his return are not explained. There, he learned that Su Changqing had made Ji Xingyue emperor and had a child with her. Ziwei realized that Su's earlier promise to support a member of the Ji family as emperor had concealed his intention to support his own wife. 482 593

He ordered Barefoot Heavenly Venerate to retreat for his own purposes, considered killing the wrong suspect preferable to allowing the true culprit to escape, and sought to test Su Changqing rather than trust him. 344 386 495 He also killed Great Emperor Qing and had Gouchen eliminate the Lord of the Myriad Gods Division after the latter became a Grand Luo Emperor. 386 502

Behind this ruthlessness, Ziwei retains a benevolent and self-sacrificing side.
