The Weight of a Senior Alumnus
Contrary to Harry's expectations, the small room with the summoning circle drawn on it was as bright as day, even without lights or candles.
In the very center of the magic circle, there was a chestnut-colored chair, upon which sat a noblewoman wearing a black trench coat and holding a cane.
She looks quite old, but even the marks of time cannot erase her elegant and noble demeanor.
She smiled gracefully as Harry walked in.
"We meet again, Potter," she said.
"Good evening, Lady," Harry said with a slight bow.
Dumbledore and Mr. LeMay stood behind, looking at each other in bewilderment.
No one has ever seen god of death; our limited understanding comes only from fragmentary records or legends.
They had heard Harry's descriptions of god of death, but upon seeing her, they were still astonished by the image of god of death incarnate.
Harry was different; Harry had seen god of death in Cassandra's dream, so he was already prepared.
Cassandra was the same; she even played hide-and-seek with god of death in her dreams for nearly a hundred years, and luckily she won.
"It seems my children aren't very friendly."
god of death's gaze swept over Dumbledore and Mr. LeMay behind Harry, and behind them Veratia and Cassandra, as well as Newt, who was bowing his head and not daring to look at her.
Harry forced a cute and polite smile, trying to appear friendly.
Harry thought it best not to let god of death misunderstand anyone.
"You've misunderstood, Lady," he said. "Actually, we need your help with something."
"Oh, I don't think it's a misunderstanding." god of death glanced down at the magic circle and said to Harry, "If this magic circle weren't incomplete, I, who was summoned to the mortal realm, might already be bound—and I don't think that's an attitude of asking for favors, do you think, Potter?"
"Please allow me to ask..."
Mr. LeMay suddenly trotted forward, his eyes gleaming with fervor. "As an Alchemy, it's truly difficult to refuse any knowledge... So, do you know how to complete the magic circle?"
god of death did not answer, but gave Veratia and Cassandra a meaningful look, and then said leisurely, "Even after all these years, you mortals are still as arrogant as your ancestors—is this your way of hospitality? Summoning god of death on Halloween without any offerings?"
Harry tried to argue, "It's November 2nd, Lady..."
However, god of death raised his wrist and tapped. "This is only mortal time."
Seeing that god of death seemed to have them cornered, Harry lowered his head and asked Veratia and Cassandra, "A sacrifice? What do you think the sacrifice should be? A sacrifice for god of death..."
"It must be a person," Cassandra whispered to Harry, looking down. "You know, the kind that's been killed on the spot..."
You know what, now that Cassandra said it, Harry actually thinks it makes a lot of sense.
That makes sense. What else could god of death need besides killing a living person?
"We can't fulfill this request either..." Harry muttered to Cassandra. "We can't really find someone to kill in front of her, can we? That would be just too..."
"Perhaps we could find a few Dark Wizard in Azkaban?" Veratia suggested from the side. "If Harry's conscience really bothers you, we could do that too. What do you think?"
"I don't think this is a good option, Miss Grindelwald," Lady Death interrupted their whispers. "I would much rather you offer me a feast than have you, like your ancestors, arrogantly assume I need living people as sacrifices."
So that's how it is...
Everyone immediately felt a sense of relief...
It seems this Lady Death isn't as difficult to talk to as the legends say.
Well, it's just a good meal anyway. Hogwarts may lack many things, but it certainly doesn't lack good food.
After all, there are so many House Elf...
"Please wait a moment," Dumbledore said with a sigh of relief. "I'll have the House Elf of Hogwarts serve you some delicious food."
After saying this, Dumbledore left Mr. LeMay's Alchemy Room like the wind.
Everyone stood in the small house in silence for a long time, and no one spoke first to break the silence.
Cassandra, in particular, is now somewhat worried that she might be targeted by god of death, so she tries her best not to attract god of death's attention.
But the more you do this, the more you attract the attention of god of death.
Seeing Cassandra trying her best to become invisible, god of death's gaze turned to her.
"Alchemy is truly a wondrous method. I had thought I would be able to obtain your soul in a year, Miss Malfoy."
Harry quickly tugged at Cassandra, signaling her not to say anything useless.
He knew Cassandra's personality well; what if he got into a fight with her and completely enraged her?
But he clearly underestimated Cassandra, after all, she rarely used her sharp tongue on outsiders, and when dealing with outsiders, she basically had nothing to say.
Furthermore, Cassandra is clearly not the kind of woman who is out of touch with reality; she is certainly capable of correctly recognizing the gap between herself and god of death.
Sometimes, being a coward isn't shameful, especially when you're cowardly in the face of god of death.
"It seems this humanoid Philosopher's Stone, Potter, infused you with life energy, didn't it?" god of death continued, a playful glint in her eyes. "Tsk tsk... what a touching sentiment..."
"The feelings of student days are always genuine, Lady Death," Mr. LeMay said, trying to smooth things over for Cassandra.
"Yes," god of death smiled mysteriously, "It's rare to see such genuine affection between three people as Potter's."
Harry's face twitched; he knew perfectly well who the third person god of death was referring to was.
Who else could it be besides Pabbie?
"Actually, the reason I invited you to the human world this time is to ask you some questions," Veratia said. "You should know that there is a Dark Wizard in the British wizarding world named Tom Marvolo Riddle, also known as Voldemort."
"I do know this wizard." god of death gracefully extended a finger to his cheek. "He split his soul into several parts in an attempt to achieve immortality—and of course, I also know your brother, Gellert Grindelwald, who is trying to use my power for his own purposes by controlling the Deathly Hallows."
"If you want to harvest his soul, I know where he lives now." Veratia was very adept at selling her brother.
"I am not interested in such souls," god of death said, placing his hands on the handles of his cane. "I should say I am not interested in souls, but I have a deep enough understanding of death itself... Everything has to die, even God is no exception, and perhaps one day in the future, I will take him to death as well."
"Is there God in this world?" Harry asked, frowning.
"You can accept that there is god of death in this world, but you can't accept that there is God?" god of death asked rhetorically.
That's true.
Harry accepted god of death's explanation, or rather, he was a relatively easily persuaded person.
To put it simply, it means someone who is easily swayed by others.
Just then, Dumbledore returned.
Behind him followed dozens of House Elf, who nervously carried plates and busied themselves swiftly in the face of god of death, quickly setting up a long table and placing a sumptuous feast before her.
"Please, Lady," Dumbledore said softly.
god of death glanced at the dishes in front of him and said to Dumbledore, "I don't eat Britain food."
"I know, Lady," Dumbledore smiled. "But it's France; you might as well try it."
As he spoke, Dumbledore secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Britain food is not presentable... No, that's not right. It's not just a matter of whether Britain food is presentable or not; the biggest problem is that Britain food is not suitable for entertaining guests.
It's not something humans can eat.
Dumbledore certainly understood this, which is why he prepared a French meal for god of death.
"I don't like it," god of death said again.
Dumbledore took a deep breath, smiled politely at Lady Death, and instructed the Elf to start preparing the food, planning to come up with some new dishes to please Lady Death.
However, he was wrong. He had the Elf use all their knowledge to try Germany, Hungary, and Russian cuisine... and even set out a rich and authentic Chinese meal, but they couldn't impress Lady Death in the slightest.
What do we do now?
Dumbledore was at a loss. He had the Elf clear away the Chinese food from the table and then looked towards Harry.
As expected of Dumbledore's senior, Harry demonstrated the composure and wisdom of an elder statesman at a crucial moment.
"How about we try McDonald's's?" Harry whispered to Veratia, "The one outside your school—remember, the one you told me was good last time."
"Good."
Veratia turned and left, grabbing Fiona's chicken leg, and appeared in a McDonald's's restaurant in London.
"Obliviate!"
Veratia made sure to use the "One Shot, Obliviate on those around her to avoid getting into trouble.
Most importantly, it wouldn't be good if people kept pestering you with questions, since it's still daytime and you can't exactly use Avada Lightning Chain in McDonald's's, can you?
Then you seem to be going a bit too far.
She walked up to the McDonald's's clerk and, under the dazed look in his eyes caused by the Memory Charm, said, "One Chicken McNuggets meal, two classic burgers, a large Coke, and a serving of fries."
The McDonald's's clerk shook his head, turned around, and got Veratia her food.
Just then, the customers in McDonald's's resumed their cheerful chatter.
After receiving the meal, Veratia took the takeout bag, and with a loud bang, a fire exploded, and she disappeared from the spot.
"What's going on?" The shop assistant covered his mouth and shouted, pointing in the direction where Veratia had disappeared.
The customers, of course, also noticed Veratia's sudden disappearance. After all, beautiful women always attract attention, and the sudden disappearance of a beautiful woman is an even more eye-catching unsolved mystery.
Within minutes, posts appeared on the forum about a beautiful woman at McDonald's's who had suddenly disappeared. The incident was not quelled until that evening, thanks to the joint efforts of the Ministry of Magic and the Muggle government.
Of course, that's a story for later. When Veratia arrived at Mr. LeMay's Alchemy Room, she handed the fast food she was holding to Harry, indicating that he should deliver it to god of death.
Harry took the fast food, walked quickly to god of death's side, and handed the paper bag in his hands to god of death.
god of death took the fast food, nodded in satisfaction, and slowly and elegantly pulled out the straw, plunged it into the Coke cup, and took a big sip.
"I should say, I really like the taste of this sweet water." god of death put down the glass and said to Harry, "Coke, right? It's such an easy name to remember."
"Yes, Lady Death," Harry smiled. "I also love Coke, especially Coca-Cola."
god of death's smile grew even more satisfied.
"Yes, Harry, I'm Coca-Cola fan too."
The old Lady's expression grew even more kind, and she looked at Harry as if he were her own beloved grandson.
She opened the bag in her hand, took out the hamburger, savored it carefully, ate all the chicken nuggets, and finally drank the Coke in her cup.
With the sound of the glass being sucked dry, god of death placed the glass on the table.
She took out a napkin and gently wiped her mouth, then said after a moment, "I am very satisfied with today's offerings, so... I can answer one question for you."
Mr. LeMay asked impatiently, "Then, Lady Death, how exactly can this magic circle be perfected?"
"We need a virgin with love in her heart." god of death turned to Cassandra and Veratia, his gaze full of amusement. "Like Miss Malfoy, or Miss Grindelwald, their blood will do. We'll use their blood to draw the magic circle."
Upon hearing god of death's words, Cassandra's cheeks flushed red, which was quite suspicious.
Veratia looked at the talisman on the ground and, after careful calculation, confirmed that the amount of blood used was not enough to be fatal, and it didn't even require 100cc.
"Thank you, Lady Death," Mr. LeMay said contentedly. For a mad scientist, knowledge was the only thing he could ever pursue.
"One more question, Lady Death," Dumbledore asked. "We've heard that Tom Riddle is summoning you in the New World, and that he has succeeded. Is that true?"
"That's another question, Dumbledore," Lady Death said with a smile. "As I just said, the offering that satisfied me can only answer one question for you."
Upon hearing what the Lady Death said, everyone exchanged bewildered glances.
How can one offering only answer one question?
"Then..." Dumbledore asked tentatively, "If I wish to ask you another question, what offering do we need to make?"
god of death smiled.
"That's another matter, Dumbledore."
