Background / History

Xu Ling'er was Chen Kongyu's childhood sweetheart in Xiaoli Village. After Chen joined the Misty Sect, she waited for him for decades, eventually becoming an elderly woman whose name had largely been forgotten by the villagers. Yun Shou found her living alone, cultivating a small vegetable garden, and offered to accept her as his disciple, teach her martial arts, and extend her lifespan. She immediately bowed and became his disciple. 194

Under Yun Shou's direct instruction and resources, Xu Ling'er rapidly advanced from an ordinary woman to an Innate martial artist. Her breakthrough awakened the Saint Heart of Emotion, a Saint Body whose mental-power amplification reflected the intensity of her feelings. 194 195

Yun Shou arranged for Chen Kongyu's return to Xiaoli Village so Xu Ling'er could test whether his professed devotion was genuine. Chen rejected her aged appearance, only accepting her after Yun Shou restored her youthful form. Xu Ling'er recognized that Chen's affection was conditional and ultimately killed him after he attacked her and Yun Shou. 203 205

Afterward, she registered as an Innate martial artist and accepted the obligations attached to that status.
