Background / History

Zhunti arrived late to Hongjun's first sermon at Zixiao Palace alongside Jieyin. The pair wept over missing the front meditation cushions, prompting Hongyun to surrender his seat. Zhunti immediately claimed it, then insulted Kunpeng and forced him away from his own place. 8

He tried to denounce Xuan Yi before Hongjun for sitting near the front and failing to bow. Xuan Yi answered with Heavenly Punishment Lightning, leaving Zhunti charred; Hongjun ignored Zhunti's complaint. 9 Hongjun later accepted Zhunti and Jieyin as registered disciples to settle his karma with the barren West, granting them the Twelve-grade Golden Lotus of Merit and the Vajra Divine Pestle. 10

After being badly injured by Xuan Yi, Zhunti and Jieyin spent three thousand years recuperating and developed a lasting hatred for him. 14 During Hongjun's final sermon, they publicly begged for Primordial Violet Qi and received two strands because of Hongjun's karmic debt to the West. 21

Zhunti and Jieyin established the Western Teachings, but their initial Merit only raised them to peak Quasi-Saint. They then made the Forty-Eight Great Vows to the Heavenly Dao and became Saints. 27

Resentful of what he viewed as Hongjun's favoritism toward the Sanqing, Zhunti accepted Mo Yi's proposal to leave the Xuanmen. Together with Jieyin, he transformed the Western Teachings into Buddhism, declared himself the Ancestor of Ten Thousand Buddhas, and caused the Xuanmen's Destiny to fall sharply. 36

Xuan Yi attacked the pair at Spirit Mountain for their betrayal. Zhunti fought with the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree, but Xuan Yi's God-Slaying Spear overcame their defenses and killed them. After learning their resurrection site, Xuan Yi repeatedly killed Zhunti and Jieyin for several thousand years, costing them Merit and causing their cultivation to decline. 37 38 Zhunti later joined Jieyin in sending Mo Yi against Xuan Yi, only for Mo Yi to reveal their involvement after failing. 45

Personality

Zhunti repeatedly pursues status, treasures, and cultivation advantages through public pleading, opportunism, and calculated concessions. He seized Hongyun's seat, begged Hongjun for discipleship and Primordial Violet Qi, and sought influence over the Human Race's imperial teachers before quickly apologizing when opposed. 8 10 21 35

He is highly resentful of perceived unfairness, particularly Hongjun's treatment of the Sanqing. This resentment ultimately made him receptive to Mo Yi's offer to abandon the Xuanmen and establish Buddhism. 36
