Background

Ji Yan grew up at Sunshine Welfare Home. Mother Li and the director served as parental figures to him, and he considers the orphanage one of the few places he still feels responsible for protecting 968 979. His childhood friend Bai Yu later becomes an enemy after sacrificing orphanage residents and attempting to control Ji Yan for his own survival 971 977.

He enters the Eerie Game as a new Player in Crimson Apartment. Early on, he is assigned by the Gourmand Eerie—Room 404's “Father”—to retrieve Blood Lyre from the lethal Room 101 2. Rather than merely survive the apartment's rules, Ji Yan exploits the family's internal grudges, kills the Gourmand Eerie, and earns favorability from Eerie Mother and Eerie Grandmother 13 15.

Personality

Ji Yan is calm, observant, and habitually treats information as his strongest weapon. He studies an opponent's abilities, motives, hidden rules, and weaknesses before committing to a fight; even his allies are often evaluated according to their usefulness and potential danger 43 363 687.

He favors conquest over indiscriminate destruction when it creates a more useful position. This is why he initially avoids killing Eerie Grandmother, seeks favorability from powerful NPCs, and repeatedly turns hostile encounters into sources of authority or intelligence 15 271 503.

His pragmatism can become ruthless. He allows Shadow to be eliminated rather than expose his Eerie Game Master identity, manipulates Environmental Auntie into sacrificing herself, and regards sacrifices as acceptable when they secure his objectives 472 1008. Eerie Town and the Eerie Game Master Sequence

After finding Old Bones in Eerie Town, Ji Yan becomes tied to the Eerie Game Master sequence.
