Background and History

Colchis and the Imperial Truth

Lorgar led the forces that defeated Colchis's native Covenant Faith, a Chaos-linked belief in the Four Gods. Its surviving adherent Erebus concealed himself within Lorgar's camp and became one of the Primarch's favored priests until Kasgar exposed his treachery. 117

Kor Phaeron's abuse shaped Lorgar's reverence for overwhelming strength. He treated contradictions between the Emperor's declarations and his own beliefs as tests of piety, rather than occasions for doubt. 120

After joining the Imperium, Lorgar studied the Imperial Truth and ordered the Exterminatus of Colchis, sparing only those willing to convert. He reported that the world's Chaos influences had been eradicated. 121

The Word Bearers' Devotion

Horus's fervent personal devotion to the Emperor deeply unsettled Lorgar. Determined not to be surpassed by the Lunar Wolves, Lorgar remade the Word Bearers into uncompromising preachers of the Imperial Truth and intensified their competition in displays of loyalty. 123

Following the victory at Sagan, Lorgar broke away with the Law of Faith to continue an independent crusade against the Nephilim. He ordered simultaneous void and ground assaults rather than securing orbit first, accepting likely casualties as a means to expose insufficiently devout Word Bearers. 127

Lorgar's Folly and Fall

After witnessing Magnus's punishment near Prospero, Lorgar became more diligent in advancing the Great Crusade. During meditation, however, he began receiving visions of an Astartes civil war, the Emperor's entombment upon the Golden Throne, and Philus's corruption. 194

Alpharius, disguised as a Word Bearer, and Amon manipulated Lorgar into conducting a forbidden psychic ritual supposedly capable of warning the Emperor and saving Philus. Seeking to become the Imperium's great religious guide, Lorgar performed the ritual despite fearing the Emperor's judgment. 194

His effort to reach the Emperor breached the Webway and opened a path for daemonic invasion. Faced with the Emperor's wrath and a vision of execution by Guilliman, Lorgar accepted the protection offered by Chaos and ordered the Word Bearers to proceed to Kaos. 194

Lorgar later fled Kaos after Alpharius withdrew, avoiding the destruction of his forces. 197

Later Activities

Ten thousand years later, Lorgar emerged as a Chaos Lord operating from a disguised fleet in the Sadness System. He sought to sabotage negotiations, frame Huron, and eliminate Kasgar. 221

Kasgar confronted him behind a psychic barrier and defeated him with three punches, forcing Lorgar and the Word Bearers to retreat. 222
