Background
Gwen is Chief George Stacy’s daughter. Before becoming Spider-Woman, she was a student with strong academic ability and had interned under Dr. Curt Connors at Osborn, where Connors offered to write her a university recommendation letter. She had noticed Peter Parker because he repeatedly stood up to Flash Thompson’s bullying despite being hurt for it. 27
In Gwen’s home universe, her childhood friend Peter Parker died after becoming a Lizard Man. Gwen blamed herself for failing to save him, and her father believed Spider-Woman was responsible for Peter’s death. This left her isolated between her superhero identity and her personal life. 250 251
A spacetime portal pulls Gwen into another universe, where she attempts to save the falling Ben Parker despite believing that doing so may kill her. Ben rescues them both, explains the Multiverse, and helps her locate that universe’s Spider-Man. 249 250
Appearance
Gwen is a petite blonde teenage girl who fights as a masked Spider-Woman. Her standard equipment emphasizes pink-and-white coloring, while her Overkill form is black and green. 27 252 254
- Blonde hair. 27
- Pink-and-white Ghost-Spider/Spider-Woman Battle Suit. 252 387
- Pink-and-white multifunction watch bearing the Galactic Plumbers logo. 252 253
- Glowing pinkish-white Manna Battle Suit after her awakening. 388
- Black-and-green symbiote-enhanced Overkill form. 254
Personality
Gwen is compassionate, stubborn, and unwilling to abandon someone in danger. When she and Ben fall through a portal, she continues trying to reach him even after missing the safe deceleration point, driven by the memory of watching Peter die. 249
Her guilt over Peter’s death and estrangement from her father initially make her feel that she has failed at both heroism and ordinary life. Ben’s support gives her a sense of safety and helps her face her father with the truth. 252 256 387
In battle, Gwen is assertive and protective of civilians and fellow Spider-People. She is willing to confront the Inheritors alone to buy others time, even when she expects the decision may be fatal. 389 406
Abilities & Skills
