Background / History

At the beginning of the Tribulation of Witches and Demons, the Human Race survives precariously beneath Shouyang Mountain. Its people are scantily clothed, lack cultivation knowledge, and suffer from hunger, injuries, and the spreading aftershocks of battles between the Witch and Demon races. An elder describes humanity as a weak people forced to survive “in the cracks” of greater powers. 1

Hu Shu’s arrival changes the settlement’s prospects. He first teaches basic treatment and food-gathering methods, then becomes the Human Race’s protector after the Invincible Domain shields Shouyang Mountain from outside threats. The people increasingly place their trust in him as their clan leader and guardian. 1 2 3

The race’s early growth is repeatedly contested. The Heavenly Origin Sect seeks to suppress humanity’s development and use humans as sacrifices in a tribulation, while the Demon Race, Witch Tribe, Chan Sect, Western Sect, and other hostile forces later launch or support attacks against human settlements. 8 14 32 41 146

Humanity strengthens through Divine Artifacts, cultivation manuals, ruins exploration, rune research, military training, and alliances with smaller factions. Ancient records further suggest that the Human Race bears a special responsibility for maintaining balance in the world, with the erratic Mysterious Power linked to that mission. 13 28 51 62

After Fu Xi attains Dao, leaders from various human tribes gather to coordinate their future. Hu Shu later initiates a formal unification plan to end internal conflict, combine resources, establish a unified army, and resist external enemies as one people. 136 285

The early Human Race is depicted as a frightened and underdeveloped population living in a rudimentary settlement beneath Shouyang Mountain. 1
