Background / History

Tony Stark was already operating as Iron Man when he fought Obadiah Stane's Iron Monger over New York. Ghost-Spider joined the battle, and Tony ultimately survived the incident. 2

After Ghost-Spider saved Tony and Pepper Potts, he visited her at Russell's bookstore to offer a reward. Though initially critical and arrogant, he was sincere about compensating her; Gwen refused because she had not acted for payment. 4 Tony subsequently had J.A.R.V.I.S. investigate Russell's crude forged identity and instructed it to discreetly monitor both Russell and Gwen, partly out of caution and gratitude toward Gwen. 5
