History
Departure from the Marines
Dragon was formerly a Marine and the son of the Marine Hero Garp. After embracing revolutionary ideals, he deserted the Marines and set out to pursue a path opposed to the World Government. Yaen’s ideas and persuasion were instrumental in shaping his resolve. 16 475
He and Teffimoe Yaen founded the Revolutionary Army together. While Dragon became its public leader, Yaen served as its Chief of Staff and strategic planner. 16 630
Building the Revolutionary Army
In its early years, Dragon was constantly pursued by the World Government and had little capacity to expand the organization beyond gathering like-minded companions. At Yaen’s proposal, he committed scarce Revolutionary Army forces to developing the North Blue as the organization’s birthplace and testing ground. 56 61
Dragon supported the relocation of Flevance’s population, though Yaen had to explain the strategic value of gaining an entire nation’s worth of future talent and supporters. Dragon subsequently agreed to provide fighters and medical personnel despite the organization’s financial strain. 75
He personally recruited Bartholomew Kuma after entrusting him with the Revolutionary Army’s First Five-Year Plan. Kuma and Ivankov were persuaded by the ideology behind the document and joined the organization. 137 138
Expansion across the Great Sea
Dragon backed the rescue of slaves fleeing Mary Geoise, agreeing with Yaen that the operation served both the Revolutionary Army’s ideals and its need to oppose the World Government. 172
During the Skypiea operation, he confronted Enel directly. His Haki-enabled wind-based strike bypassed Enel’s Logia intangibility, and Dragon later chose to reform the defeated Enel rather than execute him. 292 299
Dragon also helped uncover the Ancient Weapon Pluton beneath Alabasta and treated its Ship Spirit as an equal rather than a weapon. His offer of companionship led Pluton to join the Revolutionary Army. 320 367 368
Wano Country and Open Conflict
Dragon battled Yamato in the Flower Capital, deliberately restraining himself before defeating her with Dragon’s Wind Blast. 523
As the Revolutionary Army entered open conflict with the Marines in Wano, Dragon devastated Marine forces with hurricanes and close-quarters attacks, defeating numerous Vice Admirals in moments. 550 551
He publicly clashed with Yaen in Flower Capital, using his wind powers to counter Yaen’s cherry blossoms until Yaen’s White Emperor Sword dispersed his hurricane. 552 554
The World Government later branded Dragon a pirate and promoted him as a new “Emperor of the Sea,” placing his bounty at three billion Belly. 565
Great Sea Liberation Operation
Dragon led the Revolutionary Army’s coordinated liberation campaign against World Government member nations. Representatives from allied islands marked themselves with crimson cloth, and over half of the small and medium-sized islands came under Revolutionary Army control. 796
When Yaen’s actions triggered worldwide chaos and condemnation, Dragon ultimately recognized the larger plan behind them and resolved to vindicate him. 814 824
Appearance
Dragon is a broad-built, intimidating man whose face and bearing reflect both his former Marine background and his status as a feared revolutionary leader.
- Messy black hair. 515
- Strange tattoos cover half of his face. 515
- Commonly conceals himself beneath a cloak while operating in hostile territory. 697
Personality
Dragon is a passionate idealist driven by the goal of overturning the World Government and establishing an era centered on ordinary people. He possesses exceptional charisma and repeatedly earns the trust of powerful or skeptical figures, including Kuma, King Cobra, and Pluton. 138 366 367
In his youth, he was hot-blooded, impulsive, and at times dangerously unconcerned with secrecy, such as answering Yaen’s call while under attack by CP0. 16 He retains that directness, but becomes increasingly capable of leading large-scale operations, judging battlefield risks, and organizing the Revolutionary Army’s retreat and expansion. 547 698
Dragon is also unusually trusting of others. He gave Kuma the Revolutionary Army’s highly confidential Five-Year Plan without hesitation, confident that the organization’s ideology would win him over. 138
