History

Kaido had already formed the Beasts Pirates when Roger was executed. He greeted Roger’s death as the beginning of his own era, departing with King, Queen, and roughly twenty Zoan users 7. In a later clash over Marine treasure ships, he attacked expecting support from Big Mom and Whitebeard. Both withdrew; Sengoku overpowered him, Garp intercepted his escape, and Kaido was imprisoned in Impel Down 101 102 103 117.

While imprisoned, Kaido accepted a World Government offer to help take Wano Country and fight in other worlds. He negotiated for Yamato’s education, King’s safety, and the right to retain Onigashima as his home 212. He returned to the island, told King and Queen about the Star Gate, and declared that his old ambition to become Pirate King no longer mattered beside warfare across other worlds 239 240.

In Wano, Kaido led the Beasts Pirates against the daimyo and Kozuki Oden’s forces. After Byrnndi World defeated Oden, Kaido turned on the Kurozumi clan and deliberately killed Semimaru despite orders to capture him 245 248 255 256. He later staged a claim to Wano’s shogunate so that arriving World Government warships could appear to drive him away 259.

Kaido subsequently brought Big Mom to Wano to discuss her joining the World Government. He later served as an Air Force Admiral and then a Navy Admiral, fighting opponents across multiple worlds 273 438 1552. After surviving a defeat by Boros that cost him his right arm, he investigated the Haki he may have used in that battle. He eventually mastered Colorless Haki and became a Martial God 1558 1559 1566 1763.

Appearance

Kaido’s human form stands over seven meters tall. His Azure Dragon transformation is a massive, azure-scaled flying dragon; after enhancement with Divine Harmony’s blood essence, that form exceeds two kilometers in length 1194 1767.

Personality

Kaido seeks powerful opponents and large-scale war. Learning of the Star Gate led him to dismiss his former Pirate King ambition, but did not change his preference for Zoan users or direct physical combat 239 240 446 1194. He can be reckless—his decision to enter the fight against Sengoku ended in capture—and remains willing to fight when badly injured, as he did against Boros 101 1559.

He treats Yamato and King as family rather than merely members of his crew. He secured terms for their protection when negotiating with the World Government and personally brought Yamato a Devil Fruit to strengthen her future prospects 212 239 281.
