Background / History

Odin exiled Thor to Earth after condemning his jealousy, arrogance, and conceit as unworthy of a god. Thor was stripped of his divine power and armor, while Mjolnir was enchanted so that only a worthy holder could claim the power of Thor. Thor initially believed retrieving the hammer would immediately restore everything he had lost. 35

Even as a mortal, Thor retained exceptional Asgardian physical strength. He fought through numerous S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to reach Mjolnir, but failed to lift it after Odin's judgment took effect. His fixation on the hammer left him vulnerable to the Deviants, and Duva ultimately intervened in the conflict. 36 38

Desperate to protect Loki during the New Mexico battle, Thor accepted Duva's Facehugger offer. Duva removed the resulting larva before it could kill Thor, but used the encounter to obtain Thor's bloodline and gain Mjolnir's approval for himself. Thor survived severe chest trauma and recovered after Duva used Mjolnir's lightning to stimulate his healing. 43 45 46

Unable to reclaim Mjolnir, Thor asked Duva for Xenomorph troops to help defend Asgard against Jotunheim. He returned to Asgard with the reinforcements, commanded them during the war, and came to respect their courage despite the high casualties they suffered. After Loki departed Asgard, Thor emerged as the more suitable ruler in Odin's eyes.
