Primordial Grand Luo Golden Immortal; combined Thunder–Star combat mastery 652 Recalled his suppressed Innate Supreme Treasures through his innate divine mark and formed the Thunder Star Spear, shattering Yuan Chen and Xi Yao's joint formation. 652

Background

Gou Chen was originally conceived in Ziwei Palace at the North Star rather than Thunder Marsh. During Shen Ni's war against the ancient Heavenly Court, his mother, Dou Mu Yuan Jun, sent him into the Primordial Land to protect him from the fighting. His fate and affinity for the Thunder Great Dao ultimately drew him to Thunder Marsh, where he was born. 104

Yang Mei discerned that Gou Chen's foundation arose from the union of the first thunderbolt between Heaven and Earth and an aura of slaughter. The Primordial Wilderness's starlight and Central Earth Virtue Qi balanced these naturally violent elements, giving Gou Chen an unusually compatible foundation for Xuanxiao's Dao. 36

Before learning the truth of his origins, Gou Chen believed himself to be the second Innate Divine Being born from Thunder Marsh. He knew an unknown predecessor was its true master but could not deduce that being's identity or enter Thunder Marsh's core. 25

When the Kirin Clan attempted to seize Thunder Marsh, Gou Chen refused to surrender. He wielded his companion treasure, the Myriad Thunder Diagram, to gather the marsh's lightning and form Purple Firmament Divine Thunder against Mo Huang and the invading Beast clans. 25

Xuanxiao secretly observed the battle, approved of Gou Chen's decisiveness, and later revealed himself as Thunder Marsh's master. Gou Chen accepted Xuanxiao as his master and received the Nine Heavens Cauldron, beginning formal cultivation of the Thunder Great Dao. 26 28

Xuanxiao considered Gou Chen a top-tier Innate Divine Being whose talent and foundation were not far below those of the Three Pure Ones. His position as Xuanxiao's direct disciple subsequently strengthened his fortune and cultivation, allowing him to surpass the Three Pure Ones before their attainment of sainthood. 28 258

Appearance

Gou Chen is usually composed and refined in bearing, but his true body manifests amid violent lightning and resembles Xuanxiao's form due to Xuanxiao being the origin of thunder. 25 262

  • His true form is surrounded by flickering thunder. 25
  • In battle, purple-gold lightning coils around him and distorts the surrounding space. 126
  • His cultivation of the Star Great Dao can manifest phantoms of innumerable stars around his body. 132
  • An innate divine mark on his brow flares when he mobilizes his thunder origin and recalls his treasures. 652

Personality

Gou Chen is respectful, restrained, and deeply devoted to Xuanxiao. He immediately recognized that resistance against Xuanxiao would be futile, accepted him as master with reverence, and remained eager for his teachings. 28 133

He is calm and pragmatic in political matters. Rather than monopolizing the Heavenly Court, he transferred the Six Heavens of Desire Realm to the Demon Alliance because the Starry Sky Clan lacked the population and overall strength to govern all Thirty-three Heavens alone. 130

Gou Chen can be teasing and mischievous around his martial juniors. He allowed the Twelve Ancestral Witches to challenge him before decisively defeating them, though Xuanxiao later reprimanded him for provoking them. 44

His gentle demeanor conceals a ruthless combatant. When defending Thunder Marsh, he resolved to kill Mo Huang rather than allow the Kirin Clan to take it, while his later Prodigy Competition display left twenty Primordial Origin Golden Immortals terrified. 25 262

Gou Chen is strongly protective of family. He knowingly intervened to save the Golden Crow princes from East Prince despite understanding that the Primordial Will would punish him for disrupting the Tribulation. 318 322

He is equally uncompromising toward hostile invaders. After defeating the Origin Realm's gods, he dismissed their claims of innocence because their first action toward the Primordial Wilderness had been a killing strike. 653

His devotion to Xuanxiao extends to unconsciously imitating his master's manner of handling affairs. Nevertheless, he experiences frustration when his own strength is insufficient to assist Xuanxiao, and his concern can become anger and unease when his master announces an indefinite seclusion. 67 103 430

Gou Chen takes responsibility for his disciples and values Xuanxiao's approval of their admission into the lineage. He also proudly spoke of Zhenwu and the Six-Eared Macaque's achievements as their cultivation advanced. 259 301

His compassion does not imply disregard for accountability. Although he considered saving his nephews worth the punishment, he accepted that they would still have to repay the Karma of their slaughter. He also took satisfaction in Di Jun's eventual obligation to repay his debts, retaining resentment over Di Jun's involvement with his sister. 322

Abilities & Skills

Thunder Great Dao

Gou Chen cultivates the pure Thunder Great Dao and commands immense divine lightning.

  • Draws on Thunder Marsh's lightning through the Myriad Thunder Diagram. 25
  • Formed Purple Firmament Divine Thunder to annihilate Mo Huang's forces. 25 26
  • Uses essence blood to summon a rain of divine thunder when pressured by numerous opponents. 25
  • Commands Purple Firmament Divine Thunder, Nine Heavens True Thunder, and Annihilation Divine Thunder through the Myriad Thunder Diagram. 126
  • Combines the Nine Heavens Cauldron's spiritual energy with thunder to form a defensive lightning shield. 126
  • Created a world-destroying thunder-punishment formation with the Myriad Thunder Diagram and Star Seal. 127
  • Swallowed Primordial Tribulation lightning to temper his body during his attainment of Dao. 295
  • Condensed lightning and starlight into the Thunder Star Spear, breaking the Creation Star Formation, also described as the Star Abyss Formation, and injuring Xi Yao and Yuan Chen. His attack, Thunder Firmament Shatters Stars, struck the formation eye formed by their twin dragon phantoms. 652
  • Transforms divine thunder into binding chains capable of constricting an opponent's Dao veins and sealing routes of escape. The destruction of these chains can inflict backlash upon him. 652 653
  • Uses his innate divine mark to gather thunder's primal power and recall the Myriad Thunder Diagram and Star Seal even when an enemy formation suppresses them. 652

Star Great Dao and Lord of All Stars Authority

After inheriting Dou Mu Yuan Jun's position, Gou Chen became one with the Primordial Starry Sky's authority.

  • Commands the power of stars as the Lord of All Stars. 105
  • Can absorb star-powered attacks directed at him; Di Jun's billion star-arrow phantoms dissolved into Gou Chen rather than harming him. 126
  • At peak Primordial Origin Golden Immortal, the Lord of All Stars position could grant him Saint-comparable strength within the Primordial Starry Sky. 104
  • Cultivates the Thunder and Star Great Daos simultaneously, combining change and constancy in his personal Dao. 132 133
  • Drew upon the ancient stars to condense a Star Saint Spear during the Outer Realm war, temporarily raising his combat power despite his disadvantaged position. 815

Formations and Strategic Command

Gou Chen combines treasures, formations, and political judgment rather than relying solely on direct force.

  • Used the Star Seal and Myriad Thunder Diagram to trap and severely injure Di Jun and Tai Yi. 127 128
  • Received the Big Dipper Town Origin Array, Primordial River Luo Array, and Great Zhou Heavenly Stars Array from Xuanxiao. 133
  • Negotiated a resource-sharing agreement with the Demon Alliance while preserving the Starry Sky Clan's ability to govern the Heavenly Court. 129 130
  • The final agreement allotted forty percent of the negotiated resources to the Demon Alliance, following Gou Chen's initial demand for seventy percent and the Alliance's proposed equal division. His initial conditions also required the Alliance to guard the four heavenly gates. 129 130
  • Coordinated the Three Pure Ones and Ancestral Witches during their joint battle against Mo Yuan, while persuading Mo Yuan to serve as their tempering opponent rather than seriously harm them. 46
  • Protected Kui Mulang's Chaos Great Dao Fruit from covetous cultivators by publicly invoking the Starry Sky Clan's authority. 262
  • Helped establish the Five Lineages Dao Discussion with the Three Pure Ones and Houtu to promote sparring, exchange of insights, Dao-heart tempering, friendship among factions, and stability in the Primordial Wilderness. 430

Dao Heart and Other Divine Abilities

  • Recognizes emotionally charged illusions without allowing their representations of Xuanxiao or Dou Mu Yuan Jun to undermine his resolve. 222
  • Endured ninety-nine years on the Heart-Questioning Tower's eighth floor within an illusion of Xuanxiao and Shichen's battle. 230
  • Manifested an enormous golden palm above the East Sea from Great Luo Heaven, blocking East Prince's Pure Yang Sword before appearing at the confrontation. 318

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Myriad Thunder Diagram — Gou Chen's companion Supreme Grade Innate Spirit Treasure; gathers and amplifies thunder power. By the Origin Realm battle, it is described as an Innate Supreme Treasure. 25 652
  • Nine Heavens Cauldron — Supreme Grade Innate Spirit Treasure gifted by Xuanxiao; used to suppress powerful opponents such as Tai Yi. 28 127
  • Star Seal — Dou Mu Yuan Jun's inherited treasure; central to Gou Chen's stellar authority and formations. It is described as an Innate Supreme Treasure during the Origin Realm battle. 105 127 652
  • Star Fruit Tree — Inherited alongside the Star Seal following Dou Mu Yuan Jun's slumber. 105
  • Nine Heavens Star Banner — Supreme Grade Innate Spirit Treasure awarded after his Heart-Questioning Tower trial. 230
  • High Grade Innate Spirit Treasure, Yellow Middle Plum, and Nine-Turn Golden Elixir — Offered together as compensation to East Prince in exchange for sparing the Golden Crow princes' souls. 318
  • Human Pill — A restorative pill refined from the Karma Demon God and administered by Xuanxiao after Gou Chen's grave injuries in the Outer Realm war; restored his body, life force, and damaged origin. 822

Relationships

  • Xuanxiao — Master. Xuanxiao accepted Gou Chen as his direct disciple, guided his Thunder Great Dao cultivation, and repeatedly supported his breakthroughs and rule of the Heavenly Court. He also punished Gou Chen for interfering in the Calamity Cycle and later restored him after his near-fatal war injuries. 28 131 133 322 822
  • Dou Mu Yuan Jun — Mother. She entrusted Gou Chen with the Lord of All Stars position and asked Xuanxiao to care for him before entering deep slumber. Xuanxiao explained that renewed prosperity in the Primordial Starry Sky could give her hope of awakening, linking Gou Chen's responsibilities to his mother's recovery. 104 105
  • Zi Wei and the Star Lords — Younger siblings and clan members. Dou Mu Yuan Jun ordered them to follow Gou Chen's leadership in all Starry Sky affairs. 105
  • Xi He and Chang Xi — Younger sisters and rulers of the Great Yin Star. Gou Chen opposed Xi He's wish to become Di Jun's Demon Race Empress and later grieved when she appeared to perish, before learning that she was trapped within the Immortal-Slaying Sword. He is particularly indulgent toward Chang Xi, the youngest sister among the Star Lords. 255 264 343
  • The Three Pure Ones and Twelve Ancestral Witches — Martial siblings and juniors under Xuanxiao's protection. Gou Chen was recognized as their Senior Brother after defeating the Ancestral Witches, and later fought beside them against Mo Yuan. 44 46
  • Yuanshi — A particularly compatible companion among the Three Pure Ones. Yuanshi enjoyed interacting with Gou Chen because of his reverence for Xuanxiao and tendency to imitate his master's conduct, preferring his influence to the Ancestral Witches' recklessness. 103
  • Di Jun and Tai Yi — Rivals for the Heavenly Court who became negotiated neighbors after Gou Chen defeated them and ceded the Six Heavens of Desire Realm to the Demon Alliance. Their relations deteriorated when Gou Chen realized that Di Jun's repeated visits ostensibly for Dao discussions were actually directed toward Xi He and Chang Xi. 126 128 130 255
  • Laozi — Friendly rival. Gou Chen repeatedly competed with Laozi in cultivation opportunities, including the Heart-Questioning Tower. 221 230
  • Zhenwu — First disciple. Gou Chen accepted Zhenwu into his lineage with Xuanxiao's approval; Zhenwu later advanced to the Grand Luo Golden Immortal realm and ranked first on the Heavenly Pride List. 259 262 387
  • Six-Eared Macaque — Second disciple. Gou Chen accepted him after Xuanxiao recognized his determination to pursue the Dao. Both he and Zhenwu had reached the middle stage of Grand Luo Golden Immortal by the time of the Kunlun assessment. 259 301
  • Thunder Marsh — Third disciple. An Innate Divine Being who later secured tenth place on the Heavenly Pride List. 387
  • Shen Gongbao — Disciple of Thunder Marsh and therefore a member of Gou Chen's descendant lineage. After the Investiture of the Gods calamity cycle, Shen Gongbao returned to the Immortal Realm and paid respects to Thunder Marsh before returning to humanity's Eternal Divine Continent. 873
  • Kui Mulang — Starry Sky Clan member. Gou Chen protected him after his first-place finish in the Grand Luo Golden Immortal division earned him a Chaos Great Dao Fruit. 262
  • Mo Yuan — Ally in the Outer Realm war. Mo Yuan was deeply concerned when Gou Chen was gravely wounded and was relieved after Xuanxiao restored him. 815 822
  • The Golden Crow princes — Nephews. Gou Chen saved them from East Prince despite the punishment imposed by the Primordial Will. 318 322
  • East Prince — Negotiating opponent during the Golden Crow princes' rescue. East Prince accepted Gou Chen's compensation partly because he feared provoking him or pushing the Starry Sky Clan into the Demon Race's camp. 318
  • Yuan Chen and Xi Yao — Origin Realm opponents whom Gou Chen defeated and bound with divine thunder. They were subsequently freed by Annihilation's intervention and later became Xuanxiao's subordinates through Great Dao oaths. 652 653 666
