Origin and Creation

Pangu regarded world creation as the inevitable expression of his Dao. He declared that, after his transformation, he and the Primordial World would be one and the same rather than truly separated by death 8.

During the Heaven-Opening process, Pangu used the Pangu Axe to shape Chaos into a world. When the newborn realm began to fracture under Chaos pressure, he divided the axe into the Taiji Diagram, Pangu Banner, and Chaos Bell, sending all three into the world as stabilizing treasures 12.

Xuanxiao willingly sacrificed his failing Chaos Demon God body to provide energy for creation. Pangu also scattered the fragments of the damaged Jade Butterfly of Creation, Chaos Green Lotus, and other Chaos Spirit Treasures throughout the newborn world. He then supported its development until the sky ceased rising and the earth ceased thickening, marking the limit of its initial foundation 12.

Pangu named the completed realm the Primordial World. His transformation formed much of its natural order:

• His breath became winds and clouds.
• His voice became thunder.
• His eyes became the Solar Star and Great Yin Star.
• His body hair became the stars.
• His limbs and torso became mountains.
• His blood became rivers and seas.
• His sinews became spiritual veins.
• His skin became grasslands, while the hair upon it became spiritual plants.
• His teeth and nails became precious metals and spirit stones.
• His spine became Buzhou Mountain, the pillar supporting heaven and earth. 12

Pangu's heart fused with Mysterious Yellow Qi to become Pangu Hall, while his heart blood became the origin of the Twelve Ancestral Witches. The Great Dao Merit generated by creation produced several major inheritances, including the Heaven and Earth Mysterious Yellow Exquisite Pagoda, the Primordial Measure Ruler, and spiritual rain that nourished the newborn world. The completion of this process marked the transition from the Chaos Era to the Primordial Era 12.

Pangu later confirmed that he remained alive in a dormant existence integrated with the world. He stated that its destruction or ascension would awaken him. The revival of the Heavenly, Earthly, and Human Paths was subsequently described as a minor fulfillment of the world's development, with an Eternal True Realm remaining its distant goal 14 354 355.

World Order

Three Paths

The Primordial World operates through three parallel paths of governance:

The Earthly Dao's revival revealed the Netherworld Underworld and the Six Paths of Samsara to all living beings. Its manifestation also connected Minghe and the Asura Clan to the Asura Path 78 82.

The Human Path is one of the Primordial World's wills. Its revival is closely tied to the emergence of the Human Race and the Creation Great Dao cultivated by Nuwa 101 287.

Xuanxiao's intervention prevented the Heavenly and Earthly Daos from competing for sole control. Instead, the Heavenly Dao agreed to govern jointly with the Earthly Dao and Human Path, distributing responsibility for the vast world 240 281.

During the Great Upheaval, the Heaven-Sealing Formation sealed the powers of the Heavenly, Earthly, and Human Dao Sages, preventing the Three Paths' principal guardians from directly intervening against the invasion 812.

By the battle's turning point, Hongjun, Wu, and the Sages were again fighting the invading Demon Gods. After the Calamity Cycle ended, the gods returned to their positions and the Divine Court's officials resumed regulating the laws of heaven and earth, establishing a stable and prosperous postwar order 822 825 833.

World Will

The Primordial World's will can influence the development of its inhabitants and institutions.

• Minghe was suited to create the Asura Clan because the world's operation required the Asura Path to take shape; his resulting merit came from fulfilling that role rather than merely creating a race 78.
• Foreign beings may be rejected by the world. Daoist Yin-Yang could only freely enter and leave after Xuanxiao obtained a Heavenly Dao permit, causing the world's rejection to disappear 373 374.
• The world accepts the arrival of beings from the Great Thousand Worlds as potential tribulations, karmic ties, nourishment, or support for its Destiny, while Heavenly Dao boundary rules regulate their entry 426.
• The Heaven-Sealing Formation can directly suppress the world's Heavenly Will and restrict the authority of the Three Dao Sages, exposing the world to coordinated foreign attack 812 814.
• The world's will rejects treasures that exceed its permitted limits. The Heavenly and Earthly Daos opposed the Creation Green Lotus's potential evolution into a Chaos Spirit Treasure 152.
• Unauthorized interference with Calamity Cycles or attempts by Immortal Realm Sages to cross the repaired Immortal-Mortal Barrier can provoke punishment from the Primordial Wilderness 321 851.
• Buddhism's prosperity became an acknowledged Heavenly Dao trend. Xuanxiao explicitly ordered the returning Three Pure Ones not to obstruct it, prompting other powers to reconsider their allegiances 843.

Divine Administration

The Divine Path of the Earth was established by the Twelve Ancestral Witches and Zhenyuanzi with approval from Pangu and Xuanxiao. Using the Book of Earth, Xuanxiao assigned offices governing earth veins, mountains, water systems, time, seasons, spatial stability, and the nurturing of life. Houtu became the Earth Mother Goddess, while numerous Witch Clan and spirit race members were recorded as future earth gods 312.

Hongjun's original position as Heavenly Dao spokesperson bound his true spirit to the Heavenly Dao. His cultivation and authority depended upon the world's condition, and actions harmful to the Primordial World would invite immediate suppression 97 238.

After the Outer Realm Calamity Cycle, Xuanxiao released Hongjun from this office. Hongjun relinquished his accumulated authority, named Laozi as his successor in governing the Immortal Realm's divine system, spent several years guiding Haotian, and departed into Chaos 833.

Religious Balance

The major Sage-founded teachings included the Human, Chan, Jie, Spirit, and Western traditions. The Heavenly Court served as the world's surface ruling hub, jointly established by multiple powers 426.

After the calamity, Jieyin and Zhunti separated from the Xuan Sect and transformed the Western Religion into Saha Buddhism. Jieyin assumed the title Amitabha Buddha, while Zhunti became the Buddha Mother. Their declaration redirected part of the Xuan Sect's Destiny to Buddhism 827 833.

Xuanxiao explained that Buddhism's rise was necessary to restrain excessive influence by the Three Pure Ones and preserve competition between teachings. He also warned that its future prosperity would create an opportunity for Luohu and the Demon Race to return 827.

Buddhism subsequently expanded through the western lands, encroached on the South Sea, and established a strong Human Realm foothold in the Western Ox Continent. After the formation of the Earth Immortal Realm, it was identified as that realm's dominant power 843 851 859.

Geography and Natural Phenomena

• Buzhou Mountain — Formed from Pangu's spine and originally too oppressive for even Hongjun to reach its summit 12 15.
• Thunder Marsh — A southeastern forbidden zone spanning billions of miles, filled with violent lightning capable of destroying intruders and Primordial Fierce Beasts 13.
• Sea of Blood — The destination for harmful and impure substances from across the world. Its corrupting energy can erode body and Primordial Spirit, though the Ancestral Witches can absorb it safely 71.
• The West — Resource-poor after the Dragon-Phoenix Tribulation drained much of its spiritual-vein power. Its void nevertheless produces Great Dao Divine Thunders, making it both perilous and valuable for cultivation 62.
• Spirit Qi distribution — Prior to the Three-Realm division, Innate Spiritual Qi increasingly converged toward the world's central regions, leaving remote lands comparatively barren 400.
• East Sea — During the Great Upheaval, a foreign Great Thousand World opened an invasion front here. The Dragon Clan's defensive formation was shattered before the Kirin Clan arrived with reinforcements 814.
• Primordial Starry Sky — A massive rift connected it to a third invading Great Thousand World, whose Primordial Titan armies destroyed stars and attacked the Starry Sky Clan 814.
• Western region — A secret Chaos passage prepared by Jieyin and Zhunti enabled another foreign world to invade. Its Death Qi corrupted minds, Dao hearts, and the land itself 814.
• Four Continents — The Eastern Divine Continent, Southern Jambu Continent, Western Ox Continent, and Northern Kuru Continent rose out of the Human Realm, taking their surrounding oceans with them, and became the foundation of the Earth Immortal Realm 858.
• Nine Provinces — Remained central to the reorganized Mortal Realm and benefited especially from Xuanxiao's later Dao resonance 858 859.
• Blue Star and Solar System — Created by Xuanxiao within the Mortal Realm to reproduce the blue planet, sun, and Solar System of his distant memories. He seeded genetic material inspired by Primordial creatures, then observed natural evolution and mass extinctions without directly creating living beings 858 859.

Defenses and Safeguards

Five Spirits Guardian Great Array

The Five Spirits Guardian Great Array was established by Ancestral Dragon, Shi Qilin, Yuan Feng, Gui Mi, and Luohu's Primordial Spirit under Xuanxiao's direction 61.

• Draws Chaos Spiritual Qi from outside the world and refines it into Innate Spiritual Qi.
• Reinforces the world's foundation and stabilizes its laws.
• Makes entry by Chaos beings more difficult.
• Grants merit to its guardians and participating clans. 61

Tribulation System

Xuanxiao established the Thunder Tribulation and Longevity Tribulation as rules of the Primordial World. Thunder Tribulations descend when beings attempt realm breakthroughs, making tribulation punishment part of the world's cultivation order 64.

The Heart Demon Tribulation was also counted among the institutions associated with Xuanxiao's establishment of the world's order. Pangu had granted him the Authority of Tribulation Punishment, which the Heavenly Dao itself needed to borrow when administering such punishments 13 84.

As the Primordial World grew stronger, its tribulations increasingly focused on settling Karma and purifying heaven and earth. Their effects on Primordial Golden Immortals became minimal, allowing them to promote the world's healthy development rather than endanger its highest-level cultivators 608.

Calamity Cycles followed broad cosmic trends, but their opposing factions were not immutable. Hongjun transferred a role originally associated with the Witch Clan to East Prince after Xuanxiao moved the Ancestral Witches into the Netherworld, demonstrating that the participants could change while the underlying cycle remained 151.

The Four-Realm restructuring further concentrated calamities in the Earth Immortal Realm. The Mortal Realm's accelerated cycles of life and death consumed part of heaven and earth's Savage Qi, while the Earth Immortal Realm became a battlefield and buffer whose destruction would not gravely wound the entire Primordial Wilderness 858.

Vulnerability During Dao Merging

When Hongjun merged with the Heavenly Dao, both entered a period of slumber. The Earthly Dao temporarily governed the Primordial World, but Chaos beings exploited the reduced protection to begin an invasion 199.

The Twelve Ancestral Witches later summoned a Pangu phantom through their grand array. The phantom reunited the Taiji Diagram, Pangu Banner, and Chaos Bell into the Pangu Axe and struck the fleeing invaders, killing or severely injuring most of Cang Qiong's group and driving the survivors into Chaos 211.

Heaven-Sealing Formation and the Great Upheaval

Jieyin and Zhunti appeared to ally with surviving Chaos Demon Gods and foreign forces to activate the Heaven-Sealing Formation across the Primordial Wilderness. The formation sealed the powers of the Heavenly, Earthly, and Human Dao Sages, leaving Hongjun and the other Dao-aligned protectors unable to intervene directly during the invasion's opening phase 812.

The conspirators had previously drawn much of the world's strongest combat power into foreign realms with promises of opportunity. According to the Karma Demon God, fewer than thirty percent of the Primordial Wilderness's core forces remained when the invasion began 812.

Three Great Thousand Worlds subsequently forced connections to the Primordial Wilderness and launched simultaneous invasions 814.

• Eastern Front — Ao Guang and the Dragon Clan defended the East Sea before the Kirin Clan reinforced them.
• Western Front — West Queen Mother united Western Kunlun, Yaochi's female immortals, the White Tiger Clan, and other defenders. The Phoenix Clan later arrived to reinforce the Innate Kunlun Formation.
• Starry Sky Front — Po Jun led the Starry Sky Clan alongside the Immortal Court against invading Primordial Titans. 814

Nearly five hundred Primordial Golden Immortals commanded the three invading armies. A further invasion reached the Netherworld through nightmare creatures, bringing the wider conflict to four Outer Realm passages 814 822 827.

The apparent betrayal was subsequently revealed to be part of a larger countertrap. Xuanxiao and Wu had deliberately lured the invaders into a prepared confrontation, and Xuanxiao later rewarded Jieyin and Zhunti for their contributions. West Queen Mother also recognized that the apparent revival of the Will of Heaven and Earth had been secretly orchestrated by Xuanxiao 816 822 825.

By the battle's turning point:

• The Immortal Realm was pushing back the three invading worlds.
• The Witch and Asura Clans had eradicated the Netherworld's nightmare creatures and sealed their invasion passages.
• Xuanxiao's barrier protected the Human Realm, where time was suspended to prevent the Investiture of the Gods from beginning prematurely.
• Hongjun, Wu, and the Sages surrounded Annihilation, Five Elements, Void, Devouring, and Kunwu. 822

The five principal invaders were ultimately destroyed. Xuanxiao declared the Calamity Cycle's end but ordered the remaining forces of the Four Directions Great Thousand eliminated before the world could be fully stabilized 825.

Xuanxiao then taught the Heaven-Sealing Formation to the Primordial powers for use against foreign world origins. Houtu deployed it in the Nightmare World, preventing its Heavenly Dao from suppressing the invading Primordial armies 826 827.

Chaos Frontiers and Expeditionary Defense

During the Nine Great Worlds crisis, the Immortal Realm was identified as the world's main gateway against Chaos invasion. Gou Chen's Starry Sky Clan was ordered to maintain its defensive posts while the expeditionary forces fought outside the world 510 511.

Hongjun estimated that the Primordial World's reinforced foundations allowed its Primordial Golden Immortals to fight three or four comparable foreign cultivators, while its true Sages could contend with two or three foreign Sage-level opponents. Rather than allow the Nine Great Worlds to enter, Hongjun and Wu led a preemptive expedition into Chaos 511 512.

Taichu Realm

Xuanxiao established the Taichu Realm as a shared cultivation and training realm offering divine abilities, cultivation methods, spiritual roots, treasures, and rare materials. Its opening gave the world's inhabitants access to resources intended to strengthen their collective cultivation 218.

In the later Four-Realm era, it connected the Immortal Realm, Earth Immortal Realm, and Netherworld Underworld. Its facilities included:

When Xuanxiao noticed that inhabitants of absorbed worlds were being excluded, he amended the entrance rules so that all beings who had become part of the Primordial World could enter. The tower's opening admitted ten thousand contestants, including nearly every Sage, while their trials and Dao traces also supplied Xuanxiao with insight 874.

The Three Realms

The Primordial World initially divided into three isolated realms, separated by powerful barriers that restrict travel and obstruct even Saints' divine senses 449 450.

• Immortal Realm — The upper realm, containing the Primordial Starry Sky, Immortal Court, major blessed lands, and the most Spirit Qi-rich regions. It directly receives Chaos Spiritual Qi and converts it into Innate Spiritual Qi 449.
• Human Realm — A vast middle realm divided into thirteen regions. Nine are primarily inhabited by humans, while four larger regions are home to the myriad races 449.
• Underworld Realm — Formed as the Sea of Blood and Netherworld Underworld detached from the former West Sea and sank toward the lower reaches of the world 449.

Buzhou Mountain became the central pillar linking the three realms. A passage between them exists within the mountain but was initially sealed 449 450.

The division was the result of long-term planning by Hongjun and Xuanxiao. The Immortal Realm continued expanding by drawing in Chaos Spiritual Qi and Chaos Shards, generating new blessed lands, grotto-heavens, treasures, and spiritual roots. The affiliated Great Thousand Worlds were redirected to the Human Realm, where their cultivation systems began interacting with local traditions 450.

Buzhou Mountain also regulated the circulation of energy and impurities. Innate Spiritual Qi flowed from the Immortal Realm into the Human Realm through its veins, while impure substances, malevolent Qi, and Savage Qi descended into the Sea of Blood for treatment by the Witch Clan. The Underworld independently received and refined Chaos Spiritual Qi to nourish its Yin spirits 449.

Immortal-Mortal Restrictions

The inter-realm barriers became increasingly restrictive after their initial formation. Following their repair, direct descent by Immortal Realm Sages was effectively impossible without risking punishment from the world 450 851.

Exceptional travel could be authorized through a Heavenly Dao Token. Jieyin obtained such a token through an agreement with Xuanxiao, allowing Zhunti's incarnation Bodhi Daoist to use the Immortal Court's Ascension Platform to enter the Human Realm. Even with permission, Bodhi's usable cultivation was suppressed below that of an ordinary Earth Immortal 838.

Evolution into Four Realms

The absorption of the Four Directions Great Thousand planted the foundation for a further structural transformation. The Human Realm's Four Continents rose toward the Immortal Realm and merged with scattered Primordial fragments, spiritual veins, immortal mountains, and numerous Middle Thousand Worlds, forming the Earth Immortal Realm 858.

The remaining Human Realm developed around the Nine Provinces and absorbed numerous Small Thousand Worlds as orbiting planets. It became the Mortal Realm, leaving the world with four distinct layers 858.

This evolution did not elevate the Primordial Wilderness to a higher world level. Instead, it separated cultivation, mortal life, heavenly authority, and reincarnation more clearly while making the Earth Immortal Realm the principal buffer against future calamities 858.

The Mortal Realm's rapid succession of civilizations and generations supplied life essence and karma while consuming Savage Qi through repeated cycles of life and death. The arrangement reduced the burden of calamities upon the wider world 858.

External Expansion

Sapota's Assimilation

Sapota was the first external world fully absorbed by the Primordial World. Primordial laws assimilated Sapota's mountains, rivers, living beings, and world-origin imprint until the Primordial World's embryonic membrane enclosed the new territory 425.

Its absorption produced immediate changes:

• Spiritual energy throughout the Primordial World increased by thirty percent.
• The world's laws became more complete and its Dao Rhyme deepened.
• New Innate Spiritual Roots and Innate Spirit Treasures began forming.
• Cultivators found their comprehension clearer and cultivation bottlenecks easier to overcome. 425

After Sapota's assimilation, three hundred and sixty Great Thousand Worlds aligned with the Primordial World and formed cross-world passages. These worlds have lower limits than the Primordial World and cannot safely accommodate Grand Luo Golden Immortals 425.

Hongjun reinforced the passages and initially prohibited Grand Luo beings from crossing into the Primordial Wilderness, while also preventing Primordial residents from traveling into the smaller worlds. Crossing purified and strengthened newcomers' foundations without necessarily changing their cultivation realms 426.

Sapota's Netherworld was absorbed into Houtu's Netherworld Underworld. Its Asuras were temporarily settled in the Sea of Blood alongside the native Asura Clan, but their preexisting hostility produced renewed fighting and later disruption of Samsara 448 455.

Tomb of Gods World Intervention

Devil Master and Dugu Baitian crossed the Chaos to seek the Primordial World's help against the possessed Heavenly Dao of the Tomb of Gods World. Hongjun, Xuanxiao, and Houtu determined that its Heavenly Dao possessed combat power comparable only to an early-stage Primordial Saint 598.

The Devil Race and Witch Clan later dispatched the Myriad Malevolent Demon Abyss and Witch Ruins through Chaos to reach the Tomb of Gods World. After confronting its corrupted Heavenly Dao, Xuanxiao decided to preserve the world because of its distinctive cultivation system rather than destroy it outright 606 608.

Xuanxiao made political subordination a condition of intervention. The Devil Master and Dugu Baitian accepted the possibility of their world becoming subordinate rather than being destroyed by its Evil Heavenly Dao 599.

After the conflict, the two Chaos fortresses carried the shattered Tomb of Gods World toward the Primordial Wilderness. The returning expedition later arrived with the Three Pure Ones, Ancestral Witches, Chen Nan, and other survivors. The damaged world retained less than thirty percent of its former reserves, while its inhabitants were overwhelmed by the Primordial World's scale and complete laws 650 843.

During the related Chaos battlefield conflict, the allied forces prevented Rock Armor Demon God's attempted self-destruction from destroying the Tomb of Gods World. They then refined the remains of a separate shattered Great Thousand World into the Myriad Malevolent Demon Abyss and Witch Ruins, strengthening both expeditionary realms 823.

Origin Realm Integration
