Background / History

As a young man, Dragon Mountain Daoist accidentally entered the True Martial Underground Palace. Relying on his ability to remember everything he saw, he obtained part of its inheritance before awakening far from the palace, unable to find it again despite later searches. The inheritance he received was incomplete, but it became the foundation of his path. 101

He became known as a prodigy who had inherited the True Martial legacy and later rebuilt the True Martial Sect. After defeating Divine Sword Elder in a wager, he received Divine Sword Mountain; he established the rebuilt sect there and renamed it True Martial Mountain. 2 26

The wager began a decades-long rivalry and friendship with Divine Sword Elder. Their Ten-Year Pact required Divine Sword Elder to repeatedly challenge him for ownership of True Martial Mountain, though Dragon Mountain Daoist consistently remained the stronger of the two. 26

During the destruction of Snow Plum Manor, he arrived after the attackers had withdrawn, found the newborn Ning Qi alive in a hidden compartment, named him, and took him in as a disciple. 2

Appearance

Dragon Mountain Daoist first appears as a peaceful-looking middle-aged Daoist in a grey cloth robe, though he is already in his early eighties at the time. After reaching the Heaven-Human Realm, he is often described in white Daoist robes with an immortal-like bearing. 2 8 73

  • Grey cloth robe and a goatee during his rescue of Ning Qi. 2
  • Peaceful, approachable facial features. 2
  • White hair and beard are not attributed to him; his own notable feature is his expressive goatee, which visibly trembles when shocked. 10 14
  • Carries a transcendent pressure after becoming a Half-Step Heavenly Human. 34
  • Displays an “immortal wind” and crane-boned bearing during his Celestial Being Ceremony. 73

Personality

Dragon Mountain Daoist is compassionate and protective toward his disciples. He takes Ning Qi in after the destruction of Snow Plum Manor, worries that his seclusion has left Ning Qi insufficiently guided, and later shields Ning Qi's identity as Heavenly Sword Real Person from powerful outsiders. 2 14 91

He is also highly perceptive as a teacher. He recognizes Ning Qi's unprecedented talent, entrusts him with the future responsibility of True Martial Sect Protector, and accepts disciples based on their character and potential rather than simply their background. 10 15 107 122

Despite his calm and courteous demeanor, Dragon Mountain Daoist is decisive when the sect is threatened. After reaching the Heaven-Human Realm, he relentlessly pursues those responsible for plotting against the True Martial Sect; he is described as chivalrous but ruthless when necessary. 56 58 117

He can acknowledge his own shortcomings. After failing an early attempt at the Heaven-Human Realm, he identifies impatience as a flaw and readjusts his mindset rather than becoming discouraged. 14
