Background

Rocks rose to prominence as the captain of the Rocks Pirates, recruiting powerful pirates through Davy Back Fights. Within two years of the crew’s formation, the Rocks Pirates had carried out sixteen recorded attacks, sunk seventy-six ships, burned fourteen ports, destroyed five towns, and dismantled a country. Their reputation eclipsed that of Roger’s crew during what was known as “Rocks’ era.” 47 48

His stated ambition was to conquer the world. He repeatedly sought to recruit Giant King Harald, believing Harald was essential to fully realizing the potential of a Devil Fruit and completing his plan. Rocks also knew of the mysterious “god” in the Flower Room and foresaw a future war against the World Government. 30 49 50

At God Valley, Rocks’ public objectives included treasure and Shakki’s rescue, but his true purpose was to save his captured wife and child. God Valley was also his homeland, and he revealed his full name as Davy D. Xebec, a member of the hidden Xebec Clan descended from Davy D. Jones. 63 65

Milim’s overwhelming intervention at God Valley shattered Rocks’ immediate dream of becoming King of the World. Though severely wounded, he accepted her plan to establish a new realm where others could become stronger. After Milim claimed the New World for Many Countries, the Rocks Pirates dispersed because their alliance had been built on profit and ambition rather than loyalty. 68 72

Seeking the third Demon King seat, Rocks developed drugs intended to force extreme emotions. The process made him an imperfect Demon King, leaving him with recurring headaches caused by the remaining will of the Ope Ope no Mi. 81 113

Appearance

Rocks is a tall man whose presence is described as naturally domineering. In later years, he wears the Captain’s Black Robe associated with his pirate era and worn combat boots. 113 193

  • Tall stature that immediately stands out among ordinary people. 113
  • Wears a black captain’s robe described as symbolizing an era. 193
  • Retains a composed, imposing bearing even when casually seated among Demon Kings. 189

Personality

Rocks is intensely ambitious, arrogant, and dismissive of weakness. During his pirate career, he regarded conquest as the right of the strong and tried to recruit powerful figures rather than negotiate with them as equals. He viewed the World Government as corrupt and saw Harald’s cooperation with it as humiliating. 49 50

After becoming a Demon King, his priorities shifted. Because he could obtain nearly anything through his power, ruling the world ceased to be fulfilling; he instead sought entertainment, rival Demon Kings, and the challenge of building a nation. His apparent restraint is not compassion—he simply considers ordinary people beneath his concern. 115 116

Despite his ruthless history, Rocks is capable of restraint and social awareness around his peers. He avoids prying into Red Earl’s private ability, participates in games and banquets with the other Demon Kings, and shows a markedly gentler demeanor toward his wife Alice and their son David. 119 127 154

Abilities & Skills

Demon King of Greed

As the conceptual symbol of Greed, Rocks possesses the power associated with that concept and treats fellow Demon Kings as his only true peers. 113 120

  • Can use Greed to reduce living targets to undead skeletons through ghostly green flames. 114
  • The transformed undead retain consciousness and movement but become instinctively grateful and absolutely loyal to Rocks. 114
  • Can rapidly create undead forces from local populations, as seen upon entering the superhero world. 193
  • The undead he creates are weaker than they were in life. 114

Demon King Physiology

Rocks possesses power comparable to a complete Demon King despite his imperfect ascension. 113

  • Easily defeated the Third Kazekage and Sunagakure’s defenders. 115
  • His pressure collapsed numerous skyscrapers during his confrontation with Homelander. 194
  • Treated Homelander’s heat vision—capable of melting steel and cutting diamonds—as harmless, absorbing it into his palm. 195
  • Can overpower and launch Homelander beyond the atmosphere before slamming him back down. 195
  • Demon Kings are described as immortal beings whose immense power allows them to satisfy nearly all ordinary desires. 174

Spatial Rift Travel

Rocks can open and traverse rifts connecting different worlds.

  • Located and passed through a space-time rift to enter the Ninja World. 113
  • Later tore open space directly to travel into a superhero universe. 193

  • Offered Homelander a position as his first admiral after defeating him. 197
  • Enhanced Homelander’s abilities through a painful process that substantially increased his strength. 197

Ope Ope no Mi Residual Will

Rocks’ ascension was incomplete because he had consumed an ability from the Ope Ope no Mi.

  • He suffers frequent headaches, described as another personality screaming in his mind. 113
  • The residual will can only be gradually worn down over time. 113

  • Roger and Garp — Long-standing pirate and Marine adversaries. Rocks fought alongside and against them amid the God Valley conflict, then continued to mock them afterward. 66 68 72
  • Newgate, Shiki, Kaidou, John, Ochoku, Stussy, and others — Former Rocks Pirates members. Their alliance dissolved after God Valley because it had been held together by shared ambition and profit. 47 64 72
  • Red Earl — Fellow Demon King and peer. Rocks respects his privacy, shares games and gatherings with him, and considers him one of the few people worth engaging as an equal. 119 127 150
  • Morgans — Messenger and broadcaster who delivered Milim’s invitation to the Demon King Council; Rocks finds him useful but intimidatingly beneath his level. 116
  • HomelanderA defeated opponent whom Rocks recruited as his first admiral after forcibly enhancing his power. 195 197
