History

Foundation and Northern Conquest

The Embers of the Burned began as Keosius’s force in the Anzeta Great Wasteland. Rather than storming North Wind Fortress immediately, it captured the Lakman Duchy’s remaining eleven cities one by one, maintaining basic order among its Dragon Vein dependents under Keosius’s supervision. Foreign propaganda nevertheless portrayed its Ogres, Chimeras, and other soldiers as demonic invaders. 127

After Duke Brad Lachmann’s death, the new government declared the Embers of the Burned Kingdom, framing the conquest as punishment for Brad’s crimes and the restoration of justice to Lakman territory. 148 North Wind Fortress became a principal center of rule: Tiefling forces assumed city defense, nobles implicated in Brad’s crimes were executed, and Keosius imposed the “Dictatorial Law” to restrain violence among his followers. 149

The Kingdom then defeated the Northern Lands’ Allied Forces and launched a rapid campaign to occupy the remaining duchies. Its mixed legions captured eight duchy capitals and military towns in less than two months, while the Starfallers were deployed against surviving noble forces. 356

Imperial Coronation

Keosius was crowned Emperor after unifying the Northern Lands. At the ceremony, he declared the formal establishment of the Embers of the Burned Empire, while the Kingdom Domain evolved into the Empire Domain. 384

The Empire’s new domain made Keosius effectively supreme within imperial territory. It also deepened the link between the Emperor and his subjects, enabling him to grant power while binding recipients to him physically, mentally, and spiritually. 384

Later Expansion

The Empire expanded beyond Anzeta through conquest, treaties, industrial development, and extraplanar colonies. It established a Fire Elemental Plane presence, pushed into the Underdark, conquered North Aisel, destroyed the High Mountain Kingdom, annexed the Ugo Great Prairie, and later destroyed the Thrace Kingdom. 474 477 641 671 696 730
