Background
Starfallers are outsiders who descend into Erezege in enormous numbers. They possess physical sensations indistinguishable from reality, yet treat the world through quests, loot, experience, classes, guilds, and faction rewards. Their arrival causes natives to regard them as irrational “lunatics,” particularly because they may strip naked, brawl, or rush into danger without concern for death 510.
Their defining advantage is resurrection. After death, they can reform as particles of light at Ancient Teleportation Arrays; Imperial guards under Mezhuolash eventually treat this as routine 205. Their inability to stay dead makes them valuable but alarming allies: Mezhuolash explicitly warns Tiefling troops not to risk their own lives for them, since the Starfallers are immortal while they are not 113.
The name also refers to the Starfallers, a boundless astral void between true planes. It contains silver currents, portals or projections of other planes, astral beasts, astral whales, and floating islands formed from dead ancient gods; even powerful mages avoid lingering there 264. Keosius recognizes the Astral Prism as a gateway to this plane 264.
Characteristics
- They can pursue numerous classes and specializations, including Warriors, Monks, Paladins, Mages, Sorcerers, Bards, Druids, Artificers, Vampires, Devil-contractors, and Wyvern Knights 113 480 620.
- Their equipment ranges from improvised junk and ordinary weapons to rare magitech armor, firearms, airships, tanks, artillery, and arcane devices 180 357 780.
- They organize into guilds, including the Church of the Machine God, Magic Coin Guild, Kingship, Sword Pavilion, Roman Era, and Shu Mountain Immortal Sect 483 662.
- They are highly reward-driven, competing fiercely for experience, equipment, monster materials, titles, and faction contribution 418 480 512.
- Their reckless conduct is partly enabled by resurrection; they may use themselves as cannon fodder, launch themselves by catapult, or continue attacking from inside a monster’s mouth 319 358 783.
Abilities & Skills
Resurrection
Starfallers return after death through designated Ancient Teleportation Arrays.
- They re-form as particles of light at respawn points 205.
- Their resurrection allows them to sustain casualties that conventional armies cannot afford 113.
- This trait contributes to their reputation as “Soulless Ones” across the continent 851.
Class-Based Powers
Individual Starfallers wield widely different martial, magical, and supernatural abilities.
- Monks can evade volleys, climb walls, deflect missiles, and use Resonance Qi to kill armored soldiers 357.
- Spellcasters employ fire, frost, acid, flight, haste, defensive magic, illusions, and anti-magic effects 113 433 639.
- Dragon Pact Sorcerers gain power through Keosius and develop dragon horns, frilled ears, fiery vertical pupils, and crimson-gold contract markings 437 441.
- Devil-contract Starfallers can wield Hellfire, barbed chains, bone spurs, charms, and Devil-like forms 620.
- Some possess exceptional transformations, such as Born Battle Maniac becoming a Pit Fiend; the transformation leaves him weakened for three days 735.
Technology and Magitech
Starfallers use technology and magical engineering to offset or exceed conventional military power.
- Steel Frenzy pilots the six-meter Guardian Arcane Armor, equipped with a force-field shield and elemental lightning cannons 481.
- Starfallers operate cannons, mortars, tanks, sky dreadnoughts, airships, rifles, shotguns, grappling hooks, and specialized ammunition 357 512 780 851.
- The Magic Coin Guild’s Super Heavy Elemental Ship Cannon, comparable to a ninth-ring evocation spell, kills the Ancient Green Dragon Anselm in a single shot 782.
- Church of the Machine God members create weapons ranging from anti-magic devices to proposed large-scale incendiary and biochemical options 639 662.
Mass-Mobilization Warfare
When given a shared objective, Starfallers can rapidly become an overwhelming combat force.
- They attack with little regard for conventional formations, combining class abilities, unusual equipment, and numerical pressure 357 358.
- Their willingness to die and return lets them overwhelm stronger foes through repeated assaults 731 851.
- Against Chromatic Dragons, hundreds of Starfallers use grappling hooks to immobilize targets before swarming over their bodies and cutting through their scales 851.
- Millions of Starfallers breach the Doomsday Forbidden Zone through sustained human-wave tactics, killing Kazur’s twelve Devotees 845.

- Dragon Worship Cult — major enemy during the Dragon Disaster; the Cult fears their numbers and calls them “Soulless Ones” 851.
- Devils of the Nine Hells — uneasy allies during the Blood War; Devils consider the Starfallers more openly chaotic and dangerous than themselves 730.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Northern Lands War
Starfallers fight alongside the Embers of the Burned Empire during the Northern Lands conflict. Their unconventional tactics overwhelm conventional armies, while their resurrection makes them uniquely expendable in prolonged warfare 113 319.
After the Allied Forces collapse, Dolo deploys the Starfallers to eliminate remaining Northern Noble forces during the Conquer the Northern Lands quest, with orders to avoid harming civilians 356.
At Belon Castle, their apparently ragtag assault force proves far deadlier than it looks. Dawei Tianlong climbs the wall and eliminates elite soldiers with Resonance Qi, leading the defenders to conclude that the Starfallers are “playing” rather than fighting 357.
Undead Follower Event
The opening of the Undead Creature Research Institute lets Starfallers pay to convert corpses and skeletons into permanent Undead Followers. The event sparks a “Great Excavation Movement,” with players raiding graves and scavenging powerful remains for conversion 411 417 418.
Empire Gladiator Tournament
The Empire stages a major tournament for both Starfallers and native competitors. One hundred thousand of the Empire’s 400,000 Starfallers enter the Preliminary Round, while guilds compete in organized battles 480 483.
Steel Frenzy wins the individual competition and receives the Dragon Flame Champion title directly from Keosius 490.
Demon Invasion and Blood War
Newly arrived Starfallers answer Keosius’s call to fight Devils, driven by rewards scaled to each Devil’s strength 512. Their fearless assaults help turn back the invasion, though they also suffer heavily against enemies beyond their expected level 514 540.
In Avernus, Starfallers escape from Zariel through their Six-Pointed Star Arrays and later join the Blood War. Their initial melee near the teleportation point alarms the Hell Legion, but they quickly organize once the war quest is issued 694 730.
Dragon Disaster
Starfallers reinforce Green Valley Town with rifles, mortars, tanks, airships, mechs, and enhanced combatants, decisively shifting the battle against the Dragon Worship Cult 780.
Their advanced weaponry kills the Ancient Green Dragon Anselm, while their aerial forces pursue the remaining Green Dragons 782 783. During the final counterattack, nearly a million or more Starfallers converge through portals, overwhelming Cult forces and forcing Felipe to retreat despite severe casualties from his divine attacks 851.
Doomsday Forbidden Zone
Drawn by legendary rewards, millions of Starfallers enter the cursed Doomsday Forbidden Zone. Their exploration tools initially fail in the lava-filled environment, but their eventual mass assault destroys Kazur’s Devotees and completely breaches the region 838 845.
Trivia
- Starfallers account for approximately 80% of the Empire’s Propaganda Department, outperforming native workers in official statistics 441.
- At one point, the Empire relies on 400,000 Starfallers as laborers; each is said to perform the work of three ordinary workers without tiring 490.
- Their popularity with the Empire helped make the Embers of the Burned Empire the faction with the greatest influence over the Starfaller population 510.
- The Empire’s laws can restrain Starfallers, but outside Imperial jurisdiction they frequently fight each other over loot and equipment 784.
