Background / History
Tiamat is revered as the ancestral Mother of Evil Dragons and claims authority over the fate of every Five-Colored Dragon. Her stated objective is to restore dragon rule, make the Chromatic Dragon race the dominators of the Multiverse, and establish a Divine Kingdom on the Prime Material Plane. 874 875
To bypass the barrier preventing gods from descending to the Material Plane, Tiamat divided parts of her divine essence among three Ancient Dragons. Erebos received her eyes, Golazdra her horns, and Kazur her heart; all three became demigod devotees and potential vessels for her descent. 766 886
Her plans suffered major setbacks when Keosius defeated Erebos and Golazdra, destroying two of the three anchors needed for her ritual. Tiamat consequently awakened Kazur ahead of schedule and chose to use his body as her remaining vessel. 824 842
Appearance
Tiamat's true form is a colossal, five-headed dragon whose body and wings dwarf mountains. Her heads embody the five chromatic dragon aspects, while her divine manifestations can shift into projections, soul incarnations, and the Prismatic Void Dragon form. 753 872 874
- Five heads — red, blue, green, black, and white, each associated with a destructive breath or elemental authority. 872
- Immense divine body — described as mountain-like, with sky-obscuring wings and a body capable of distorting space through divine pressure. 753 871
- Prismatic scales — in her Prismatic Void Dragon form, each scale continuously changes color as fire, lightning, frost, and other Evil Dragon powers swirl around her. 874
- Vertical pupils — her gaze can evoke instinctive terror, greed, or mental domination. 271 875
Personality
Tiamat is greedy, possessive, and intensely controlling. She presents her actions as being for the benefit of all Five-Colored Dragons, yet considers even her devotees expendable tools and potential vessels. 271 873
She is skilled at flattering, reframing, and claiming credit for others' accomplishments. When Keosius gains authority in Avernus, she attempts to portray his achievements as victories for the entire Five-Colored Dragon race—and therefore for herself. 753
Tiamat reacts to defiance with personal fury. She calls Keosius her most valued child while simultaneously seeking to erase his independence, absorb his divinity, and make him submit as her slave. 875
Abilities & Skills
Divine Rule Over Chromatic Dragons
Tiamat possesses authority over Evil and Five-Colored Dragons, enabling her to influence their minds, control their fate, and draw upon their collective power.
- Can overwhelm ordinary Five-Colored Dragons with Dragon Might, brainwashing them into servants or destroying their minds outright. 875
- Creates the Chains of the Evil Dragon by drawing on the power of Chromatic Dragons, using them to restrain targets and impede regeneration. 873
- Commands Five-Colored Dragons, Ancient Dragons, and dragon-descended armies as agents of her will. 819 876
- Her divine components retain her will; forcibly using Tiamat's Eye risks mental corruption and transformation into her puppet. 816
Five-Colored Divine Breath
Each of Tiamat's heads wields a different destructive element.
- Red head — divine dragon flame. 872
- Blue head — thunderstorms and divine lightning. 872
- Green head — poison mist capable of rotting the wind itself. 872
- Black head — acid that corrodes the earth and melts rock. 872
- White head — ice and snow cold enough to nearly freeze space-time. 872
- Her five-layered breath can combine into a rainbow-like divine barrage. 872
Divine Destruction and Corruption
Tiamat can directly weaponize divine power against enemies, cities, and the laws of the Material Plane.
- Divine Punishment — projects a five-colored beam across planar barriers; its use is costly and risks exposing her God Kingdom to hostile gods. 824
- Tiamat's Grasp of Devouring — forms a colossal claw containing a black hole that consumes matter, magic, and elemental particles. 876
- Profane Light — fires divine beams intended to erase Keosius from existence. 875
- Breath of the End of All Dragons — an ultimate manifestation of her Evil and Greed authorities; it destroys Kareks's physical form and banishes him to the Tumultuous Void Tunnel. 874
- Her Divine Power Domain can corrupt mortals into Dragon Blood Monsters. 875
Illusion and Trickery
Tiamat's divine trickery is potent enough to affect both perception and physical reality.
- Creates numerous illusory dragon clones through the Trickery Domain. 872
- Uses Tiamat Dragon Shadow Illusion, whose dragon phantoms can damage a target's body if their will is insufficient. 876
- Her name is attached to the sixth-circle spell Tiamat's Terrifying Illusion, which makes targets believe they are being attacked by all five of her breaths; weak-willed victims can be frightened to death. 121
Incarnation and Vessel Creation
Tiamat can distribute her divinity among chosen dragons and reshape them into avatars.
- Bestowed her eyes, horns, and heart upon Erebos, Golazdra, and Kazur respectively, elevating them into demigod devotees. 886
- Intended to use the three vessels in a trinity ritual to descend fully into the Material Plane. 766 842
- Merged her soul incarnation with Kazur's body after his death, creating the Prismatic Void Dragon. 874
- Her soul incarnation is vulnerable: severe injury to it also gravely damages her divine main body. 874
Artifacts and Divine Components
- Tiamat's Eye — mythical artifact embodying domains including Dragons, Chromatic Dragons, Evil Reptiles, Conspiracy, and Greed. It transfers injury to an opponent and carries Tiamat's divinity and will. 812 816
- Tiamat's Horn — divine body component granted to Golazdra; it becomes tangible only when her strongest lightning is released. 823
- Heart of Tiamat — divine body component granted to Kazur, containing domains such as Dragon, Evil, Trickery, Darkness, War, Necromancy, Charm, and Divination. 886
- Tiamat's Nest — her God Kingdom in Avernus, a vast dragon realm with environments for many dragon species and the Dragon Queen's Treasure Mountain at its center. 755 884
Relationships
- Keosius — Calls him her child and initially seeks to recruit and control him; their relationship becomes open warfare after he destroys her vessels and rejects her authority. 271 754 875
- Bahamut — Divine rival. Bahamut stops her Divine Punishment against Keosius and later leads the gods' assault on Tiamat's Nest. 824 884
- Kazur — Her most valued devotee and intended vessel, who ultimately betrays her by summoning Kareks and resisting his role as a sacrifice. 842 871 873
- Erebos — Primeval Green Dragon devotee who wielded Tiamat's Eye before Keosius killed him. 812 814
- Golazdra — Great Wyrm Blue Dragon devotee who wielded Tiamat's Horn and acted on her orders against Keosius's empire. 833 842
- Kareks — Hostile dragon god whose arrival ruins her descent ritual; their battle severely damages her soul incarnation. 872 873 874
- Asmodeus — Hell's ruler, who invokes their contract and forces Tiamat to withdraw from Avernus after she attacks Keosius there. 754
