Background / History

Jonathan and Martha Kent raised Clark after finding him as a child. Their caution about exposing his abilities came from fear that authorities would experiment on him, not from a lack of compassion; Clark retained their kindness and continued wanting to save even classmates who mistreated him. 2

Before Robet’s arrival, Clark spent his life restraining his strength and avoiding fights because he feared that an unrestrained punch could kill someone. Robet’s challenge forced him to confront his abilities, begin training, and eventually accept that hiding forever would not protect the people he loved. 5 149

The Brotherhood’s assassination attempt became a turning point. Clark located the organization, supported Robet’s campaign against it through telepathy, and accepted that defending the Kents might require harsher decisions than he preferred. He nonetheless chose a different role from Robet: Clark would be the family’s shield, while Robet acted as its blade. 42 46 47

Clark later learned of his Kryptonian heritage through Kara and Jor-El’s artificial-intelligence remnant. He accepted Jor-El as a continuation of his biological father’s consciousness, adopted the Superman identity, and established Savage Island as a potential refuge for the Kent and Danvers families. 34 162 286

Appearance

Clark is a tall, powerfully built man, described as over six feet three even when stripped of his Superman-level power. As Superman, he presents himself with an upright posture and a warm, solar radiance; in civilian life, he adopts a subdued, bookish manner behind glasses. 162 836

  • Wears glasses, lowers his head, changes his posture, and uses subtle mental suggestions to maintain his Clark Kent identity. 162
  • His Superman presence is marked by a warm golden radiance that inspires both closeness and reverence. 162
  • In his awakened golden state, his body resembles a humanoid sun: dazzling but not scorching. 1210
  • Possesses Kryptonian combat suits designed by Jor-El, including one bearing the House of El crest. 286

Personality

Clark is fundamentally compassionate and protective. Even while struggling with powers that made ordinary life difficult, he wanted to save people in danger and consistently prioritized the safety of the Kents, Lana, Kara, and Robet. 2 191 203

He initially dislikes violence and is deeply uncomfortable with Robet’s lethal methods. Over time, he accepts that some threats cannot be ignored, but he never becomes indifferent to killing and continues to prefer protection, restraint, and minimizing collateral damage. 5 46

Clark is capable of humility and self-criticism. Encounters with the Ancient One, Kryptonite, dimensional threats, and public hostility force him to recognize that his strength has limits and that confidence without preparation can endanger others. 222 385 833

Abilities & Skills

Kryptonian Physiology

Clark’s cells absorb and convert solar energy into immense physical power. His natural abilities include superhuman strength, speed, durability, enhanced senses, and recovery through solar exposure. 59 149 849

  • Can travel and fight in outer space without concern for vacuum exposure. 149
  • Can circle Earth rapidly enough to appear in locations across the globe with little delay. 287
  • Possesses X-ray vision and super-hearing, though he refuses to casually invade unrelated people’s privacy. 21
  • Maintains exceptional durability even against opponents in the Creation God realm. 1254

Flight and Combat Skill

Clark learned to fly by studying Robet and steadily developed combat ability through their training and sparring. 47 149

  • Uses high-speed aerial movement to relocate battles away from populated areas. 149
  • Possesses strong close-quarters skill and evasive instincts even when Kryptonite has reduced his powers. 836
  • Can use physical force to create destructive air-pressure attacks similar to Robet’s Ki Explosion Fist. 225

Heat Vision

Clark can project Heat Vision instinctively or with deliberate precision, using it for offense, controlled terrain alteration, and combined attacks. 5 29

  • Countered Robet’s Kamehameha Wave during their first spar. 5
  • Uses precise Heat Vision to erase evidence of battle damage without exposing the family. 29
  • Later develops variations of Heat Vision energy after studying Robet’s versatile Ki Blasts, improving his energy output. 959
  • Combined his Heat Vision with Robet’s Kamehameha Wave to kill Raziel. 274

Telepathy and Psychic Resistance

Clark developed psychic techniques through observing Robet and adapting during combat with Martian Manhunter. 150

  • Maintains telepathic communication with Robet during dangerous operations. 42 85
  • Resists and studies psychic attacks rather than relying solely on physical power. 150
  • Uses mental suggestion as part of his civilian disguise. 162

Solar Flare

Clark condenses solar energy and his Bio-field into a radiant power that amplifies his presence and combat output. 162 641

  • Uses Solar Flare as the foundation of his Superman identity. 162
  • Can dissolve or break through restrictive mirror-based defenses with his solar halo. 641
  • In Subspace, manifests as a sun-like force capable of draining General Zod’s accumulated solar power. 745

Golden Solar State

After recovering within the sun following his death-like state, Clark awakens a controlled golden transformation far beyond his previous limits. 1130 1132

  • Initially overwhelms Darkseid with a single surprise attack after crossing space at faster-than-light speed. 1130
  • Possesses power greater than Robet’s Super Saiyan 2, though initially below Robet’s Super Saiyan God state. 1132
  • Can contend with Darkseid and later force Knull off Earth with a single strike. 1133 1210
  • Breaks through further against Shuma-Gorath, reaching Dimensional Demon God-level power. 1254

Weaknesses

  • Absence of sunlight — In the Holy Grail’s Dark Space, Clark’s cells begin weakening without access to the sun; prolonged deprivation would reduce him to an ordinary person. 264
  • Kryptonite — Kryptonite can suppress his powers, leave him vulnerable, and was used to capture him. 831 835
  • Solar-energy instability — Excessive solar absorption can destabilize his power, making him avoid returning home while unstable. 385
  • Mental control — Darkseid can exploit the Anti-Life Equation to control Clark, forcing Robet to seal him with the Evil Containment Wave. 1135

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Kryptonian combat suit — A House of El suit designed by Jor-El; Clark accepts it despite privately finding the external red-underwear design embarrassing. 286
  • Glasses — Central component of his Clark Kent disguise, paired with changed posture, aura, and mental suggestions. 162
  • Kryptonian ships — Clark relocates his, Kara’s, and Robet’s ships beneath the ruins on Savage Island. 162
  • Mjolnir — Recognized by the hammer and asked by Odin to watch over Thor during his trial. 331

Relationships

  • Robet Kent — Adoptive younger brother, training partner, and closest battlefield ally. Their differing attitudes toward violence lead them to become the family’s shield and blade respectively. 5 46 47
  • Jonathan Kent — Adoptive father. Jonathan’s fear of exposing Clark’s abilities stems from a desire to protect him; he later supports his sons using their powers to defend the family. 2 45
  • Martha Kent — Adoptive mother. Her compassion helped Clark retain his kindness, and she remains a central concern in his decisions. 2 835
  • Kara Danvers / Kara Zor-El — Kryptonian cousin and ally. Kara alerts Clark to General Zod’s arrival and helps protect their family when Clark is vulnerable. 34 718 835
  • Jor-El — Biological father, represented by an artificial intelligence carrying part of his memories and consciousness. Clark accepts the AI’s efforts to reconnect with him. 286 287
