Background

Tongtian is the Sect Master of the Intercepting Sect and formerly a Heavenly Dao Saint. His consciousness also contains the merged memories and identity of Qin Xiao, a transmigrator from another world who knows the Intercepting Sect's future destruction. The two identities become inseparable, combining Tongtian's grief and Qin Xiao's refusal to accept that fate 1.

He was confined in Zixiao Palace after the War of Investiture of the Gods. The catastrophe destroyed the Intercepting Sect's foundation: disciples were killed, captured, converted, or bound to the Investiture of the Gods, while Yun Xiao was suppressed beneath Kirin Cliff and Qiongxiao and Bixiao lost their bodies 1.

A mysterious Primordial Unity Transcendence System offers him a path beyond the Heavenly Dao: abandon the Saint Position, condense a Primordial Dao Seed, and eventually prove the Dao through strength. Tongtian accepts the cost, detonates his Saintly Dao Fruit, and falls to the Early Quasi-Saint realm before escaping Zixiao Palace into the Chaos Sea 1 2.

Following his nirvana in the Shattered Star Annihilation Belt, Tongtian's rebuilt body bears a more primordial and detached Dao Rhyme than his former Saintly presence. He is also described in simple blue or purple Daoist robes at other points in the story 1 240 250.

His anger over the Intercepting Sect's downfall remains central to his actions, but he is not ruled by impulse. He plans concealment formations, diversions, alliances, rescues, and resource exchanges with long-term goals in mind.
