Background

Hongjun was born as the first wisp of Immortal Qi in the Great Desolation and inherited the Immortal Path. He regarded the Great Desolation as his home and believed his purpose was to enlighten its living beings. 4 24

During the Dao-Demon Conflict, Hongjun joined Yin Yang, Five Elements, and Yangmei in confronting Luohu at Mount Sumeru. He wielded the Jade Disc of Creation, Myriad Heavens Auspicious Cloud, and Pangu Banner against Luohu’s Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation. 1 2 When Luohu gained temporary Hun Yuan-level power, the Heavenly Dao intervened to prevent Hongjun’s death. Asked why he had opposed Luohu rather than refine the Great Desolation with him, Hongjun answered that he could not bear to see living beings suffer. 3

After the conflict, Hongjun merged his Three Corpses and became a Saint. Zhang Hao, the awakened Heavenly Dao, entrusted him with seven strands of Primordial Violet Qi, arranged his future sermons, informed him about Transmigrators and Systems, and placed part of Hongjun’s True Spirit in the Heavenly Dao void. This made Hongjun effectively undying so long as the Great Desolation endured. 4

Appearance

Hongjun is usually depicted as an ancient, composed Daoist whose presence combines profound authority with deliberate restraint. In later eras, he appears less like an enthroned Dao Ancestor and more like a weathered traveler who has seen countless worlds and Daos. 55 467

  • White hair cascading over his shoulders or loosely tied behind his head. 55 467
  • Plain linen robes during his appearance at Kunlun Mountain. 55
  • Deep eyes likened to containing the birth and death of three thousand worlds. 55
  • Later wears an ordinary gray Daoist robe and emits no overt pressure, though space-time subtly bends around him. 467

Personality

Hongjun presents himself as calm, impartial, and concerned with the survival of the Great Desolation. During his sermons, he teaches all qualified listeners without deliberately excluding Transmigrators, provided they do not threaten the world. 12 He favors the Three-Corpse method because he considers it a viable route for beings with weaker foundations. 4

He is also pragmatic in dealing with Transmigrators and Systems. Rather than indiscriminately destroy every outsider, he evaluates whether they harm the Great Desolation, recruits useful individuals, and turns hostile Transmigrators into contributors when possible. 24 42 112 293

Despite his dignified reputation, Hongjun has a dry and mischievous side. He enjoys watching events unfold, makes light of his own fearsome image, and once signed Hong Tian onto the Heavenly Ranking partly on impulse. 157 229

Story Role / Major Arcs

Dao-Demon Conflict

Hongjun opposes Luohu’s attempt to conquer and refine the Great Desolation. Though initially overwhelmed by Luohu’s System-enhanced power, he survives through the Heavenly Dao’s intervention and becomes the key native figure willing to fight for the world. 3

Sainthood and the Zixiao Palace Sermons

After reaching sainthood, Hongjun acts on Zhang Hao’s arrangements: he moves Zixiao Palace into Chaos, preaches the Hun Yuan Great Dao to three thousand Great Powers, explains the path toward Quasi-Saint and Saint realms, and distributes Primordial Violet Qi. 4 9 10 12 62 63

He accepts disciples, bestows treasures, and makes the Treasure Distribution Cliff available to those with sufficient destiny. 63 64

Systems and Transmigrators

Hongjun becomes one of the Great Desolation’s principal defenders against Systems and Transmigrators. He reports the Great Sage System immediately after learning its nature, discovers that many Systems are damaged fragments of supreme treasures, and treats recovered fragments as opportunities to strengthen both himself and the world. 4 24

His policy evolves from suppression alone to controlled integration: compliant Transmigrators may work for the Great Desolation, while destructive ones are subdued, stripped of their Systems, or repurposed. 42 112 293

Protection of Xuanmen and the Heavenly Court

Hongjun publicly intervenes to save Randeng and the Four Pure Ones from the Ancestor Witches, demonstrating that the Dao Ancestor remains an active power rather than a distant preacher. 55 56

Following the struggle over Tongtian’s body and the restoration of possessed True Spirits, Hongjun helps establish Hao Tian as Heavenly Emperor and supports the rebuilding of the Heavenly Court. 165 170

Investiture of the Gods

When Hao Tian requests personnel to stabilize the underpopulated Heavenly Court, Hongjun consults Zhang Hao and prepares the Investiture of the Gods. The resulting Heavenly, Earthly, and Human Rankings are intended to maintain order amid increasing activity from Outer-Heaven Demons. 213

Dao Integrator of the Reborn Prehistoric World

After the Prehistoric World is shattered, Di Hong awakens Hongjun’s remaining True Spirit and assigns him to preach the Dao across the Myriad Worlds for one immeasurable Measure Calamity, using the resonance of other worlds’ Daos to restore the damaged foundation. 457

After the world’s rebirth, Zhang Hao entrusts Hongjun with maintaining its fundamental balance. Hongjun merges with the Great Dao as its Dao Integrator, while Hao Tian assumes responsibility for the Heavenly Court. 462

Return from Beyond Chaos

Hongjun eventually returns from beyond Chaos transformed from the aloof Dao Ancestor into the Immortal Dao Demon God: an incarnation of the Great Dao who has traveled through many worlds and witnessed countless Daos. 467
