Background / History

Uchiha Clan Extermination

Obito participated in the Uchiha clan’s extermination alongside Uchiha Itachi, helping render the clan unable to resist the combined assault. 2

Later, while operating behind a mask, he learned from Itachi of a separate mysterious Mangekyō Sharingan user who had impersonated Kakashi in Kirigakure. Obito became suspicious of the impostor’s connection to Kakashi and questioned Zetsu repeatedly about Kakashi’s condition. 99

Kirigakure Conflict

Obito entered Kirigakure for two purposes: to investigate the person using Kakashi’s face and to reignite the village’s civil war. His hatred of Kirigakure stemmed from its Anbu abducting Rin Nohara and sealing the Three-Tails inside her. 106

He attempted to capture Tsunade for information during an ambush, wielding Kamui and Wood Release against her. 105 He subsequently fought Kakashi, using copied Lightning Release techniques and relying on Kamui to evade attacks until Kakashi’s Lightning Storm forced him toward Izanagi. 107 108

Rin and the Genjutsu

Following the conflict, Obito experienced an extended Genjutsu in which Rin was alive and shared the ordinary life he had wished for: first as his childhood companion, then as his wife while he served as Hokage. 109 110 114 115

Even after Zetsu determined that Obito had broken free of the Genjutsu and carried no foreign chakra, Obito continued speaking to an unseen “Lin.” Zetsu regarded this behavior as evidence that Obito’s mental state remained unstable. 119

Pursuit of the Rinnegan

Upon overhearing that the Rinnegan might resurrect the dead, Obito immediately wanted it for Rin. Zetsu repeatedly tried to restrain him from acting impulsively. 126

As an Akatsuki operative, Obito privately instructed Itachi and Kisame to recover Orochimaru’s Rinnegan research ahead of Pain. 133 After receiving the resulting scroll from Kisame, he and Lin discussed giving Rin the Rinnegan so she could protect herself and support his plans. 183 184

Later, Obito engaged in intense battles alongside and against various shinobi factions, including a grueling conflict against Nagato over the Rinnegan where he suffered heavy damage before utilizing Kamui Lightning Cutter 331 and attempting to survive Nagato’s Chibaku Tensei. 339 He also confronted Itachi in prolonged battles and complex Tsukuyomi sequences where his perceptions of Lin, his ambitions of becoming Hokage, and his reality were intensely tested. 347 358 383

He can be playful and casual in conversation, but becomes intense when Kakashi, Rin, or the Rinnegan are involved. He still shows concern for Kakashi despite their hostility, and he refused to attack Tsunade because Lin admired her. 99 119

Obito is secretive and strategically minded, withholding the Rinnegan-related objective of Itachi and Kisame’s mission from Pain. However, Zetsu frequently has to temper his impulsiveness, particularly when Obito believes the Rinnegan could restore Rin. 126 133
