Background / History

On the night of the Uchiha Clan Extermination, Itachi intercepted his cousin, Uchiha Jie, at Konoha's barrier. Jie provoked him over the coming massacre and escaped briefly with an illusion, but Itachi pursued him using his exceptional Body Flicker Technique and confined him within Tsukuyomi for three days. 1

Itachi used his Mangekyō Sharingan to eliminate powerful Uchiha resistance during the massacre. Root forces handled many of the weaker and non-combatant clan members, while Itachi suppressed Three-Tomoe Sharingan users with his evolved dōjutsu.
