Background

Xuandan originated as the Nine Revolutions Golden Elixir refined by Laozi. After developing sentience, he accepted Laozi as his master; Laozi gave him an Innate Dao Body and named him Xuandan after his senior disciple, Xuan Du. Laozi considers their bond akin to that of father and son. 1 2

Upon entering the Ren Sect, Xuandan received the Taiqing Pill Formula, the Supreme Purity Golden Core Technique, and the Four Symbols Cauldron. At the same time, his Benevolent System awakened, tying his growth to gifting pills to others. 2

Laozi later taught him the Golden Elixir Great Dao's distinction between Inner and Outer Elixirs. To reinforce Xuandan's unusually suitable foundation, Laozi created the Spirit Swallowing Transformation Method specifically for him and provided a Quasi-Saint Dragon Pearl with rare spiritual materials. Xuandan used them to increase the strength of his Primordial Golden Elixir tenfold and double his innate roots. 47

Xuandan usually appears as a handsome youth of roughly fifteen or sixteen, with a jade-like face, sword-like brows, starry eyes, and a trace of youthful innocence. He wears a green Tai Chi Eight Trigrams Robe and is described as resembling a dashing sword immortal. 1

Despite his mischief, Xuandan is capable of careful long-term planning. He recognizes political motives behind the Demon Race's interest in humanity, helps establish the Underworld's structure, and can remain composed against opponents vastly more dangerous than himself. 171 241 258 261
