Background

Sasuke’s life was defined by the Uchiha clan’s destruction and his hatred for his brother, Itachi. He regarded killing Itachi as the purpose of his life, even when Kakashi warned him that his newly awakened Sharingan was nowhere near enough to bridge their difference in strength. 29 150

His first direct confrontation with Itachi ended disastrously. Despite deploying his Three-Tomoe Sharingan, Body Flicker Technique, kunai, and Shadow Clones, Sasuke was overwhelmed, severely injured, and trapped in a Mangekyo genjutsu that forced him to relive the clan massacre.
