Background / History
Tang San retains memories and cultivation knowledge from another world. Tang Hao notices his unusual maturity early: he can cook and perform household chores at two or three years old. After his twin martial souls awaken, Tang Hao concludes that he must be a reincarnated deity or someone chosen by a deity. Tang San himself knows that he has been reborn, rather than accepting his father’s explanation as established fact 13 124.
He grows up with Tang Hao in Holy Soul Village. From early childhood, he cooks while his father sleeps late and spends their limited money on liquor; Tang San recalls surviving on rice water. Despite these circumstances, he describes Tang Hao to Xiao Wu as “a very good man” 18.
At his awakening, Su Yuntao initially dismisses Blue Silver Grass and attempts to move on without testing him. Tang San insists on a soul-power test, revealing innate full soul power. At Nuoding, Yu Xiaogang infers that he possesses a second martial soul and becomes his teacher, although Tang San does not yet understand that his Mysterious Heaven Skill produced his exceptional initial soul power 1 3 4.
Appearance
- Ordinary features: Initially described as plain-looking and noticeably scrawnier than Ye Qinghe 1 14.
- Arrested growth: Ye Qinghe feeds him an Appearance-Fixing Pill at seven. Years later, he remains barely over 1.3 meters tall, with wheat-colored skin and the same childhood face 33 64 166.
- Mature expression: Despite his childlike body, his gloomy eyes and expression resemble those of a much older, embittered man 33.
- Changing hair: Appears bald during the forest expedition; later possesses green hair that can extend and function as an external soul bone 178 206 220.
- Temporary gorilla form: Great Strength Gorilla Possession turns him into a green-haired gorilla nearly 1.8 meters tall 219.
- Female transformation: Eventually becomes a burly woman approximately two meters tall, ending the physical form associated with the “Blue Silver Boy” nickname 305.
Personality
Tang San places enormous confidence in innate full soul power, twin martial souls, and the Tang Sect’s secret arts. He repeatedly expects these advantages to let him surpass Ye Qinghe, and struggles to accept being outperformed by someone who began with rank-three innate soul power. He also tends to explain defeats through carelessness, inadequate hidden weapons, or poor instruction rather than accepting the gap in strength 18 98 106 168.
His loyalty is accompanied by a readiness to treat perceived offenses as grounds for killing. Insults to Yu Xiaogang and injuries to Xiao Wu prompt death threats against Ye Qinghe. He even briefly considers killing his own teacher when he suspects that Yu Xiaogang may have discovered his otherworldly origin 14 15 18 124.
His love for Xiao Wu is intense but possessive. He kneels to secure her release and declares that he would give up everything for her, yet watches her constantly when he believes she might be meeting another man. He repeatedly interprets her closeness to Shrek’s other men as a threat to their relationship, remaining largely unaware of her hatred for him 81 108 127 138 229.
His arrested growth becomes a lasting source of shame. Being called “little” or “Blue Silver Boy” provokes anger, while repeated failures to recover normal growth leave him withdrawn and despondent. Even after Slaughter City, the nickname can trigger his murderous domain involuntarily 32 49 131 301.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Tang San’s primary martial soul is developed as a control-type weapon under Yu Xiaogang’s instruction 15 18.
- Vine control: Produces numerous thick vines for restraint. Ye Qinghe destroys them with Beast King Assault, causing backlash when Tang San fails to sever his connection in time 16.
- Third soul skill — Spider Web Restraint: Throws a light sphere that unfolds into a large binding web. It restrains Tai Long, Huang Yuan, and Jing Ling together, but Ye Qinghe tears it apart effortlessly 109 184.
- Fourth soul skill — Blue Silver blades: Sends sharp grass blades out of the ground toward opponents. The ring’s downgrade drastically reduces the skill’s power and number of blades 184.
- Later limitation: Tang San concludes that Blue Silver Grass offers little advantage against opponents of the same rank; he credits his soul bones for most of his remaining combat strength 211.
Clear Sky Hammer
His second martial soul is inherited from Tang Hao. Yu Xiaogang identifies it as the world’s greatest tool martial soul, restoring Tang San’s confidence after his defeats 13 124.
- First soul skill — Vajra Pounding Pestle: Releases a powerful hammer strike. Tang San combines it with a hidden-weapon throwing technique for a final attack against Ye Qinghe 221.
- Chaotic Cloak / Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer: Accumulates force through successive swings. After three years of training, he masters the eighty-one-strikes-as-one realm 221 301.
- Twin-martial-soul pressure: Adding rings to the hammer exposes him to dangerous pressure from multiple ring attributes. He fears that further additions could make his body explode 177.
- Energy cost: His strongest thrown hammer attack leaves him almost without soul power and unable to sustain Great Strength Gorilla Possession 221.
Mysterious Heaven Skill
Tang San’s cultivation method originates from the Tang Sect’s Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record 3 167.
- Produces the innate full soul power detected at his awakening 3.
- Remains part of his training as his soul power develops 166.
- Does not prevent his later cultivation slowdown in the absence of immortal herbs 166 167.
Tang Sect Combat Techniques
| Technique | Documented use or limitation |
|---|---|
| Purple Demon Eye | Activates the eye technique before exchanging blows with Ye Qinghe 15. |
| Mysterious Jade Hand | Uses it for hand-to-hand defense; it cracks and eventually shatters under Ye Qinghe’s attacks 15 220 221. |
| Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon | Attempts to redirect Ye Qinghe’s strength through grappling, but is countered by more sophisticated technique and force 15. |
| Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track | Uses evasive footwork after his guard is broken, but cannot completely avoid Ye Qinghe’s punch 15. |
| Bat Wing Reincarnation | A tenth-ranked hidden-weapon technique; Ye Qinghe blocks it during their tournament confrontation 220. |
| Poisoned hair needles | Infuses severed green hairs with soul power until they become steel-like needles. Poisons his hands beforehand so that even a graze could decide the fight 220. |
Soul Bone Abilities
- Eight Spider Lances: His original external soul bone, obtained alongside his over-age third ring. Uses the rear lances to propel himself toward Xiao Wu during a rescue attempt; the bone is later stolen 98 106 124.
- Demon Tiger Assault: A left-arm skill from a Sabertooth Demon Tiger over fifty thousand years old. Produces a giant tiger-head attack that breaks apart the Elephant Armor team’s formation 206.
- Great Strength Gorilla Possession: A right-leg skill that transforms his body into a gorilla. Functions like an additional martial soul, but cannot receive soul rings 219.
- Torso soul bone: Provides a defensive option. During his fight with Ye Qinghe, Tang San avoids activating another major soul-bone skill because of its heavy soul-power cost 221.
- Green-haired external soul bone: Comes from a ten-thousand-year Green-Haired Turtle. Extends into long strands for striking and restraint; although even Flender struggles to break it without Martial Soul Avatar, Ye Qinghe’s light blades cut it apart 206 220.
Divine Slaughter’s Domain
Acquired through his Slaughter City trials, this domain chills the surrounding space when activated 301.
- Initially difficult for him to control after returning from Slaughter City 301.
- An insult about his appearance triggers it involuntarily; Sword Douluo and Ning Fengzhi intervene to help him suppress his killing intent 301.
Martial Soul Fusion Limitation
- Fails to achieve even the slightest martial soul resonance with Xiao Wu, despite the fusion skills she develops with other Shrek members 168.
- Treats this failure, alongside his slower cultivation, as further evidence that Yu Xiaogang has held him back 168.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Godly Zhuge Crossbows: Wields two against Ye Qinghe after Spider Web Restraint fails; they disappear from his hands before he can fire 109.
- Silent sleeve arrow: Gives one to Xiao Wu when they become sworn siblings. She uses it in an attempt to interrupt Ye Qinghe’s attack on him 16.
- Hidden weapons and poison: Regards these as his true trump card, beyond Blue Silver Grass; later adapts his external soul bone’s hair into poisoned projectiles 18 220.
- Three strength-type soul bones: Each exceeds fifty thousand years in age. Their acquisition supports his rapid rise to rank forty-nine 199 201.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father and later trainer. Tang San initially idolizes him, while Tang Hao views his son as the hope of his revenge. Their bond ultimately breaks after Tang Hao uses him as bait and their captivity turns them against each other 18 34 301 323.
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher. Tang San initially defends his reputation and trusts his explanations for his arrested growth. He later calls him an ignorant fool, distances himself from the relationship, and falsely blames him for the decision to add a Clear Sky Hammer ring 15 32 177 191 212.
- Xiao Wu — Sworn younger sister and the woman he loves. Tang San believes that she remains devoted to him, but she secretly hates him and fears that he and his allies intend to seize her soul ring and soul bone. She eventually confronts him over the plan to force her sacrifice 18 105 108 194 337.
- Ye Qinghe — Principal rival and enemy. Their conflict begins around Yu Xiaogang’s instruction and Xiao Wu, then grows through repeated defeats, humiliation, soul-bone theft, and captivity 14 16 32 124 305 311.
- Ning Fengzhi — Political patron. Invests in Tang San’s twin martial souls and future Clear Sky Hammer development; later tries to stop him from wasting more hammer ring slots 191 200 211.
- Ning Rongrong — Fiancée and later wife within Ning Fengzhi’s alliance. Her father treats the marriage as a means of securing Tang San; she eventually reveals his knowledge of the planned sacrifice to Xiao Wu 150 199 238 337.
- Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, Oscar, and Yu Tianheng — Shrek teammates who become rivals for Xiao Wu’s affection. They increasingly dislike Tang San but initially preserve outward harmony out of fear of Tang Hao 127 130.
- Sword Douluo — Protector associated with Ning Fengzhi. Helps restrain Tang San’s uncontrolled domain, but later remains unmoved when Ning Fengzhi asks him to save Tang San from Ye Qinghe 301 305.
- Dugu Yan — Ye Qinghe’s companion and a direct opponent. Knocks Tang San down when he attempts to ambush Ye Qinghe in Nuoding City 34 36.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Dihun Village Defeat and Arrested Growth
After discovering that Tang Hao has left home, Tang San accompanies Xiao Wu to confront Ye Qinghe. He insists on fighting alone, framing the confrontation as revenge for his teacher and sworn sister. Ye Qinghe overwhelms his techniques, destroys his vines, and knocks him unconscious 14 15 16.
Ye Qinghe feeds him the Appearance-Fixing Pill while he is seven. Tang San later consults every clinic in Nuoding City, but physicians find no illness. Yu Xiaogang successively blames smithing, differences between tool and beast martial souls, and Tang San’s supposed divine nature. None of these explanations restores his growth 32 33 124.
Shrek’s Core and Repeated Defeats
Tang San becomes Shrek’s central fighter and directs his teammates against Ye Qinghe. His confidence rests on hidden weapons, twin martial souls, and the Eight Spider Lances, but Ye Qinghe’s greater power repeatedly undermines those advantages 64 81 84 100 106.
During the Imperial Fighting confrontation, he kneels to secure Xiao Wu’s release before challenging Ye Qinghe again. Spider Web Restraint fails, his crossbows are taken before he can fire, and he subsequently loses his external soul bone. Yu Xiaogang restores some of his confidence by emphasizing the Clear Sky Hammer’s potential and suggesting that godhood could solve his growth problem 108 109 124.
Cultivating the Second Martial Soul
As the tournament approaches, Tang San remains at rank thirty-nine while several teammates reach Soul Ancestor. His inability to fuse with Xiao Wu deepens his resentment toward Yu Xiaogang 166 167 168.
He adds a tiger ring to the Clear Sky Hammer and breaks through rank forty, narrowly surviving the pressure involved. Xiao Wu encourages further high-risk ring absorption. He later refuses more poison-attribute rings for Blue Silver Grass, but his new fourth ring is reduced from ten thousand years to the hundred-year category 174 177 184.
When Tang Hao demands to know who instructed him to cultivate the hammer prematurely, Tang San protects Xiao Wu by blaming Yu Xiaogang 212.
Tournament Exposure and Xiao Wu’s Sacrifice
Soul bones raise Tang San to rank forty-nine, but Canghui Academy’s illusion traps him and exposes deeply personal fears and conflicts. Against Ye Qinghe, he reveals poisoned hair projectiles, Great Strength Gorilla Possession, and finally the Clear Sky Hammer, publicly confirming his twin martial souls 198 199 206 219 220 221.
After Xiao Wu’s identity as a hundred-thousand-year soul beast is exposed, she sacrifices herself to Ye Qinghe rather than Tang San. Tang San joins Shrek in attacking him and is severely wounded. His later hammer assault cannot touch Ye Qinghe’s intangible body 238 242.
Sect Ambitions and Slaughter City
Tang Hao proposes using the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect to rebuild their power. Tang San agrees outwardly, but privately intends to establish the Tang Sect rather than restore the Clear Sky Sect 251.
He undergoes Tang Hao’s hammer training and the trials of Slaughter City, emerging as a Soul Emperor with the Divine Slaughter’s Domain. His killing intent remains unstable, and his sensitivity to the “Blue Silver Boy” nickname persists 301.
Transformation, Captivity, and Final Confrontation
Tang San’s renewed attack on Ye Qinghe ends in another overwhelming defeat. Tang Hao attempts a nine-ring-detonation ambush instead of rescuing him. Tang San is subsequently transformed into a two-meter-tall woman and confined with the others in the apartment block 305 311.
Coerced trials deepen the hostility among the captives. Tang San and Tang Hao finally sever their father–son bond, with Tang San recognizing that his father used him as bait 323.
The final supplied chapter’s heading identifies Tang San as having become a god and returned to the tenement. In the confrontation shown, Xiao Wu exposes his otherworldly origin, identifying him as a possessor sent by the Asura God. She also accuses him of knowingly participating in Tang Hao and Ning Fengzhi’s plan to force her sacrifice, citing Ning Rongrong as her source 337.
