Background / History

Yuji attended Sugisawa school before entering the jujutsu world. He was already known for abnormal athletic ability, though he initially had no understanding of curses or jujutsu. He had never met his mother, retained only vague memories of his father, and had a grandfather whose final words shaped Yuji’s desire to save others. 7 18 105

At Sugisawa, Yuji joined Megumi Fushiguro against Cursed Spirits pursuing Sukuna’s Finger. When a stronger spirit tried to consume the Finger, Yuji swallowed it himself to stop it. Sukuna immediately possessed him, but Yuji reclaimed his body through sheer will, establishing himself as an unprecedented vessel. 9

Satoru Gojo brought Yuji to Tokyo Jujutsu High. During Principal Masamichi Yaga’s entrance test, Yuji concluded that running from his responsibility would leave him unable to live without regret; he committed to consuming Sukuna’s Fingers and fighting curses. 10 18

Personality

Yuji is straightforward, energetic, and often unserious in ordinary situations. He introduces himself by openly naming his preferred type of woman, performs exaggerated poses, and readily jokes with classmates. 17 144

Beneath that casual demeanor, he takes personal responsibility for lives endangered by Sukuna. He refuses to abandon Megumi during the Sugisawa incident, offers to sacrifice himself during the Juvenile Detention Center mission, and asks about Lin Ran and Nobara’s safety even as he is dying. 9 31 36

Yuji fears the moral cost of killing humans. When Junpei asks how he would face evil sorcerers, Yuji explains that killing can make the value of life unclear—even the value of people one loves. 105

Training greatly increases his confidence. By the Eighty-Eight Bridge incident, he taunts Special Grade Cursed Spirit Kechizu after overwhelming it, a habit he recognizes as influenced by Lin Ran and Xie Zhiyong. 247

Resolution of Ryomen Sukuna

Lin Ran gathers the remaining Fingers and has Yuji consume them within an ancient forbidden technique.
