Background / History

Promise to Bo Saixi

Tang Chen and Qian Daoliu visited Sea God Island together and both fell in love with Bo Saixi. Although she loved Tang Chen, she declared that she would choose whichever man first reached level 100 and became a god. As divine emissaries, neither Bo Saixi nor Qian Daoliu could attain godhood themselves, making her condition an indirect expression of her preference for Tang Chen 112.

Tang Chen took the condition literally rather than recognizing her affection. He vowed not to return until he became a god and disappeared for more than half a lifetime, leaving Bo Saixi waiting on Sea God Island 106 112.

Fall into the King of Slaughter

Seeking godhood, Tang Chen found Slaughter City and undertook the Asura God’s trials. During the eighth trial, lingering Rakshasa divine will corrupted the inheritance process. The resulting cultivation deviation left him vulnerable to the Hell Nine-Headed Bat King, which invaded his mind and turned him into the King of Slaughter. He remained in Slaughter City for decades, stripped of his sanity and indulging in Bloody Marys 113.

Lin Sheng subsequently argued that the Asura God had deliberately allowed this interference. In his interpretation, Tang Chen was never the intended successor: he was being kept alive to guard the Asura Demon Sword until Tang San could inherit it. Lin Sheng also suggested that Tang Chen’s suffering and death were intended to destroy Bo Saixi’s will to resist sacrificing herself for Tang San 114 115.

Rescue and Final Days

After learning Tang Chen’s whereabouts from the diary, Bo Saixi traveled to Slaughter City. She sensed his familiar aura but found her powers restricted by the city’s laws, so she gathered her Sea God Domain at its entrance to provoke him into emerging. Bibi Dong offered a temporary alliance, while privately intending to destroy the Asura Demon Sword 118 119.

Diary resonance rewards gave Bo Saixi full control of Sea God’s Light. She used it to disperse the vengeful souls surrounding the King of Slaughter and destroy the bat king parasitizing Tang Chen’s skull. His awareness returned, and he recognized her. Bibi Dong’s attempt to destroy the sword failed, after which she withdrew and left the reunited pair together 126.

Tang Chen returned to Sea God Island with Bo Saixi, but the prolonged corruption had already exhausted his body. Bo Saixi chose to cherish their remaining time rather than seek revenge for the destruction of the Clear Sky Sect. Even her Sea God’s Light could not reverse his decline 127 131.

Despite his weakened condition, Tang Chen helped Bo Saixi oppose the Sea God’s divine punishment, striking the descending lightning with his Clear Sky Hammer. Both were injured. He later died in her arms from the accumulated damage caused by Rakshasa Divine Sense and the Nine-Headed Bat King 135 159.

Original Fate Revealed in the Diary

In the original course of events recounted by Lin Sheng, Tang San, rather than Bo Saixi, freed Tang Chen from possession. Tang Chen completed Asura’s Eighth Trial and reunited with Bo Saixi, but his ruined body collapsed within three days. He died in her arms and left the Asura Demon Sword to his great-grandson, Tang San. Bo Saixi subsequently sacrificed herself during Tang San’s Sea God inheritance 115.

Appearance

  • During possession: Clouded, blood-colored eyes; blood-red vengeful souls surrounded the King of Slaughter 126.
  • After awakening: The redness faded from his eyes, revealing a clear, deeply weathered gaze. His voice was hoarse 126.
  • During his final days: Physically weakened, but still able to wield his Clear Sky Hammer against divine lightning 135.

Personality

Tang Chen is literal-minded and exceptionally stubborn in matters of commitment. His response to Bo Saixi’s marriage condition was to make an absolute vow and pursue godhood, rather than understand the affection behind her words. Lin Sheng explicitly criticizes this one-track thinking 112.

His pride and courage survive his physical decline. When divine punishment threatens Bo Saixi, he attacks the lightning despite his weakened body, then addresses her with concern as “Xi’er” 135.

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang Chen wields the Clear Sky Hammer as a Power Attack System cultivator 135.

  • Can enlarge the hammer into a hundred-meter weapon 135.
  • Uses it to strike the Sea God’s punitive lightning alongside Bo Saixi’s defense 135.
  • His remaining strength does not prevent injury: both he and Bo Saixi bleed after the clash 135.

Asura Inheritance

Tang Chen independently discovered the Asura God’s inheritance site and reached its eighth trial 113.

  • His trial was vulnerable to interference from lingering Rakshasa divine will 113.
  • Completion granted a demigod body in the original fate described by Lin Sheng 115.
  • Neither restored sanity nor the original demigod transformation repaired the decades of damage to his body 115 131 159.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Clear Sky Hammer — His principal weapon; appears blood-red during his defense of Bo Saixi against divine punishment 135.
  • Asura Demon Sword — A Super Divine Artifact associated with his inheritance. Lin Sheng describes Tang Chen as its intended guardian and eventual deliverer to Tang San. During the rescue, the sword’s Slaughter Domain independently counters Bibi Dong’s Rakshasa strike 114 115 126.

Relationships

  • Bo Saixi — His beloved. Her indirect marriage condition prompted his pursuit of godhood; she ultimately rescues him, shares his final days, and holds him as he dies 112 126 131 159.
  • Qian Daoliu — Fellow supreme expert and rival for Bo Saixi’s affection. Bo Saixi’s condition excluded Qian Daoliu because his divine-emissary role prevented him from becoming a god 112.
  • Tang San — His great-grandson. In the original fate described in the diary, Tang San restores his sanity and receives the Asura Demon Sword as his legacy 115.
  • Bibi Dong — Initially intends to kill him and destroy the Asura Demon Sword. She temporarily cooperates with Bo Saixi, then attacks the sword immediately after Tang Chen awakens 117 119 126.
  • Hell Nine-Headed Bat King — His possessor, which exploits his cultivation deviation and controls him as the King of Slaughter until Bo Saixi destroys it 113 126.
