Background / History
Origin and the Human Race’s First Achievements
Minghe is introduced as the only human created by Styx and the son of Styx’s Blood God Doppelganger. Later narration identifies Minghe and Nether Bamboo themselves as Styx’s Blood God Doppelgangers. The human Minghe operates separately from Styx’s main body, and their connection remains concealed from other powers 71 133 150 180.
Before humans have names, Minghe repeatedly attempts to drill wood into fire. Others initially regard him as strange and eventually stop approaching him. His success produces the Human Race Fire Seed, which receives Merit and becomes an everlasting flame 71.
He subsequently establishes housing and clothing, then creates 3,000 human characters to preserve civilization. He distinguishes the pronunciations associated with his name and Styx’s name so that people will not immediately connect them 71 72.
Rather than absorb the resulting Merit, Minghe distributes it to Suirenshi, Youchao Shi, and Ziyi Shi. By the completion of the writing system, the three have reached the peak of Great Luo Golden Immortal while Minghe remains outwardly without cultivation 72.
The Massacre and the Birth of the Human Dao
During the Demon Clan’s massacre, the Human Race receives no answer to its appeals to Nüwa and Laozi. Minghe emerges from the ruined depths of the Human Race Ancestral Land and announces a cultivation path based on human emotion. Styx supplies enough Merit to protect him from Di Jun without taking over the Human Race’s struggle 108 109.
Minghe’s teaching turns the survivors’ grief, anger, and hatred into cultivation comprehension. When Di Jun orders their extermination, Minghe raises a wall of Merit, reveals his Grand Dao Golden Immortal power, and uses Primordial Purple Qi to become a Sage. The Human Race also severs its connection with Nüwa 109.
His Sagehood brings forth the Human Dao, placing it alongside the Heavenly and Earthly Daos. Minghe’s share of Human Race luck rises to 50%, and the Kongtong Seal comes into his possession. Five Heavenly Dao Sages attempt to suppress him and the new Dao 110.
Minghe resists their attacks and shatters Yuanshi Tianzun’s array with the seven emotions. When Hongyuan intervenes, Minghe uses the Grand Unity Golden Brick to seal him. Nether Bamboo’s departure from the Western Sect then supplies additional luck to the Human Dao, completing its establishment 111 112 113.
Afterward, Minghe confronts Di Jun and Eastern Emperor Taiyi over the massacre, which has left fewer than ten thousand humans alive. He takes the Slaughter Witch Sword and allows the Demon Clan to retreat, but promises that the Human Race will seek revenge 115.
Building the Human Dao’s Alliances
Minghe negotiates with Zhen Yuanzi for the Earth Book, offering the Mystic Origin Venerable Tower and an opportunity to become a Human Dao Sage. Zhen Yuanzi accepts the exchange 116 117.
He later proposes that Zhen Yuanzi harmonize with the Human Dao while retaining his individuality. Zhen Yuanzi improves upon this proposal by using his Good and Evil Corpses rather than sacrificing his main body’s freedom. Minghe defends his attainment when the Heavenly Dao Sages challenge his abandonment of the Three Corpses Severing Method 134 164.
Minghe also secures a Human Emperor’s Teacher position for Buddhism and grants Hong Yun the Eastern Green Flower Great Emperor position to strengthen his alliances 133 149.
Human Sovereigns and Imperial Succession
Possession of the Kongtong Seal gives Minghe authority over Human Emperor enthronement and deposition. He refuses to guarantee Fuxi the throne merely because Nüwa requests it, granting him only the qualification to compete 125 126.
At Xuanyuan’s completion ceremony, Minghe uses the seal to appoint him Heavenly Emperor, the first of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors. The ceremony brings Merit to Xuanyuan and those who assisted him 149.
For the later succession contest, Minghe names Fuxi and Chi You as candidates and offers the Son of Heaven Sword rather than unsealing the Slaughter Witch Sword. The competition comprises civil skills, martial skills, and a third round whose nature is initially withheld 171 172.
Minghe subsequently supports Cangjie because Fuxi and Chi You place their allegiance to the Chan Sect and Witch Clan above their identification with humanity. When Nüwa and Yuanshi object, he maintains that he promised Fuxi an opportunity—not the throne—and offers to return the treasures exchanged for teaching positions 180.
The Dragon Clan and Heavenly Court Conflict
Minghe intervenes when the Western Sect and Dragon Clan scheme against the Human Race. He rejects demands that humanity simply endure the insult and fights Jie Yin. After the plot against the Human Emperor’s daughter is exposed, he pursues Zhu Long despite Haotian’s intervention 155 156 157.
Drawing on Human Race luck, Minghe binds Jie Yin and overpowers Haotian. Laozi attempts a rescue, but Yuanshi’s threat provokes Minghe into killing Haotian with the Kongtong Seal. Hongjun then negotiates a settlement 158 159.
| Settlement term | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Death of Ao Guang, Ao Run, and Ao Feng | Minghe personally kills all three 159 160. |
| Half of the Dragon Race’s luck | Included in the demands accepted by Hongjun 159 160. |
| Ten Golden Immortal dragons | Required to provide favorable weather without harming human production through floods or other disasters 159. |
| Protection against retaliation | The Dragon Race and Heavenly Court must not trouble the Human Race over the incident 159. |
| Zhu Long | Spared under the settlement and taken away by Hongjun 160. |
| Western Sect compensation | Includes the East Azure Lotus Precious Color Flag, which Minghe sends to Styx 160. |
Minghe restores Shen Nong’s daughter to human form and names her Jingwei 160.
Later Sectarian Struggles
Minghe permits multiple sects to teach among humans, arguing that this provides more cultivation choices. He nevertheless cautions against powerful protectors solving every difficulty, which would make humanity dependent and lazy 133.
During the approach to the Investiture of the Gods Calamity, Styx shares relevant memories with Minghe. Minghe receives Yang Jian at the Human Race Ancestral Land and questions whether he understands the truth of his family’s circumstances, while also considering how the matter might weaken the Chan Sect 207.
By the later confrontation with Hongjun, Minghe is injured. Styx moves him, Nether Bamboo, and the Human Race’s people to the Blood Sea so they can recover using its resources 249.
Personality
Minghe values humanity’s collective strength over his own immediate advancement. He repeatedly gives away Merit that could raise his cultivation, explaining that strengthening a few individuals is insufficient for the entire race. His aim is a Human Race capable of defending itself rather than surviving through appeals to stronger beings 71 72 133.
He is diplomatic but refuses to trade away decisions that directly concern humanity’s future. He offers compensation during disputes over imperial succession, yet does not accept external pressure to install an unsuitable ruler. He responds better to kindness than threats; Yuanshi’s attempt to intimidate him turns a possible ransom of Haotian into an execution 159 180.
His protectiveness extends to historical memory. He seals the Slaughter Witch Sword because it embodies humanity’s darkest period, refusing to let its victims’ suffering become a convenient weapon in a later succession struggle 171 172.
