Background / History
Rocks formed the crew on Hachinosu Island through mass recruitment, accepting pirates with bounties of at least five million Berries and drawing in most of the island's capable pirates. He also dispatched officers to recruit notorious pirates from across the world. 2 6 7
The crew quickly became a direct threat to the World Government. After escaping a Navy pursuit, Rocks publicly declared his intention to overthrow the World Government, then began attacking its member nations, including the Amondos Allied Nation and Menglas. At Menglas, Rocks killed a Navy Admiral, though the crew lost roughly thirty percent of its trainee and regular members in the campaign. 13 15 26
A Navy Buster Call later targeted the crew in the Olama Nation. The Rocks Pirates escaped despite heavy casualties and the capture of several non-core officers; Rocks considered the losses replaceable and continued recruiting. 40 49 52 55
For years, the crew searched five designated seas for Poneglyphs connected to Uranus. Its operations included recruiting samurai and looting weapons in Wano Country, where Oden joined and became the crew's sole Poneglyph reader. 68 70 71 87
After obtaining all five Poneglyphs, Rocks returned to Hachinosu, massacred the remaining pirates there, and recovered an Eternal Pointer to God Valley from a hidden chamber. He had acquired it more than a decade earlier by attacking a Celestial Dragon fleet. 90 91
At God Valley, the crew invaded in search of Uranus while the Navy, Roger Pirates, and Giant Pirates formed an alliance against it. Internal disloyalty proved decisive: Patri Vic and Whitebeard turned against Rocks, and many executives pursued Uranus for themselves rather than for their captain. 94 95 115 124
Vic ultimately defeated and killed Rocks. With their captain dead and numerous executives killed, captured, injured, or fleeing, the Rocks Pirates ceased to exist. Vic, Whitebeard, Oden, and Kaido later transported Rocks' body to Hachinosu, where it was placed in the underground chamber and frozen. 129 132 141 142
Organization
The crew operated as a coercive alliance of powerful pirates rather than a unified family. Most members joined for profit, personal influence, or the prospect of gaining Uranus; officers maintained their own followers among the trainee and regular crew. 4 19 116
Rocks held the organization together through overwhelming strength and Conqueror's Haki. He tolerated conflict among lower-ranked members and personal grudges among officers, but forbade officers from killing one another because he needed their strength for his plans. 15 19 41
