Turles's Discovery

While Turles was still fretting over the special move he had created, Broly pushed open the laboratory door and walked in with Paragus.

Hearing the noise, Turles lowered his hands, and his expression returned to normal.

"Turles, what do you need me for?"

Paragus was still as rude as ever to Turles. Perhaps it helped him assert that he was no less important than Turles.

Turles didn't care. He smiled at Broly first, then spoke. "Paragus, do you know how to let a Saiyan maintain the tenfold boost of Great Ape Transformation in their base form?"

"What?" Paragus was taken aback, then immediately objected. "Impossible. It's impossible!"

Paragus knew Turles had been researching how to maintain the tenfold boost of Great Ape Transformation in base form, but he hadn't believed in Turles's idea at all.

Paragus was an accomplished scholar in his own right, and he had studied Saiyan Great Ape Transformation. That was why he knew even better just how difficult it was to maintain its tenfold boost in base form.

So when he heard Turles's question, his first thought was that Turles had finally gone crazy. He was secretly delighted.

But then he reconsidered and wasn't so sure. After a brief hesitation, he asked again:

"Did you figure it out?"

Turles didn't answer. He only smiled at Paragus.

"Tch!"

What Paragus hated most about Turles was how much he liked putting on airs and speaking in riddles. It infuriated him every time.

Still, from Turles's expression, Paragus was certain that Turles might—probably, perhaps—have actually discovered something. It left him both annoyed and excited.

Great Ape Transformation gave Saiyans a tenfold increase in battle power, but their increased size made them less agile. On top of that, most Saiyans couldn't remain rational after transforming, turning them into sitting ducks. No wonder Frieza had always looked down on Saiyans and called them "wild monkeys"!

So if Turles had really made a discovery, it would have a tremendous impact on the Saiyans.

Paragus was torn. As a future king determined to restore the Saiyans, he knew they needed this research. But as a future king, he also didn't want it carelessly leaked.

Watching Paragus struggle with his decision, Turles quickly figured out what he was thinking. He rolled his eyes and ignored him, turning his attention to Broly instead.

Turles's gaze burned with interest. He thought Broly was a treasure trove. Not only was his potential astonishing—once he matured, his battle power would undoubtedly rival that of a God of Destruction—but Turles had also uncovered a Saiyan secret through him, allowing him to further improve his own strength.

Under Turles's stare, Broly felt uneasy. Turles kept looking at the place where his tail had been cut off, which sent a chill down Broly's spine.

Broly had lost control at the time, but he still sensed that Turles had done something to him. Even after regaining his senses, he had felt a weakness unlike anything he had experienced in his entire life. Now that Turles was staring at him like this, Broly couldn't help feeling afraid.

Watching Broly keep dodging his gaze, Turles was confused. He didn't know why Broly seemed afraid of him. He was Broly's only good friend, after all!

Turles had no idea how deeply he had traumatized Broly.

Turles thought it over but couldn't figure out why Broly was afraid of him. Soon, however, he put the question out of his mind and smiled warmly at Broly again.

Turles had indeed made the discovery Paragus suspected: he had found a way for Saiyans to maintain the tenfold boost of Great Ape Transformation in their base form.

It turned out his earlier theory had been completely wrong. No—not completely wrong. Most of it was right, but he had focused on the wrong thing. He shouldn't have concentrated solely on the Saiyans' tails.

It was true that the tail was the source of Saiyan power, and only the tail could absorb Blutz Waves and trigger changes in the body's cells. But Turles had overlooked an important organ: the spine.

The spine was essential to supporting the bodies of all creatures that walked upright. It connected the body to the tail and played a vital role in movement.

So when Blutz Waves struck a Saiyan's tail, the spine also absorbed them. The cellular changes in a Saiyan's body began in the spine.

Until now, all of Turles's attention had been focused on the tail. He had discovered that Great Ape Power first emerged from the tail, and even when he hadn't exposed himself to Blutz Waves the last time, stimulating it with Psychic Power had produced the same result.

Only after his unexpected battle with Broly, a monster of a Saiyan, had Turles realized that the spine also played a crucial role in the transformation.

Ordinary Saiyans didn't have Broly's special physique. Once their tails were cut off, they lost their supply of Great Ape Power and quickly reverted from their Great Ape Transformation.

Broly, however, was special because he was a Super Saiyan. Even after his tail was cut off, his spine could produce Great Ape Power on its own. It was slower than the tail, but it still let him maintain his transformation.

Turles also remembered that during the Tournament of Power, Son Goku had taught Caulifla of Universe 6 to transform into a Super Saiyan 2 by concentrating her power in her back and stimulating a massive increase in S-Cells. That had inspired Turles.

That was how he had figured out how to interrupt Broly's transformation during their battle, allowing Broly to recover from his Great Ape Transformation.

As for maintaining the tenfold boost of Great Ape Transformation in base form, Turles realized that the spine's involvement in the cellular changes had to be cut off, leaving only the Great Ape Power generated in the tail to boost the body.

This also gave Turles more ideas about Super Saiyan 4.

If Super Saiyan Transformation was caused by the spine and Great Ape Transformation by the tail, then Super Saiyan 4 must be the result of both working together. That might also be why Son Goku first transformed into a Golden Great Ape and then became a Super Saiyan 4 when pushed to the limit by intense emotions.

Turles didn't know whether his theory was right, but that didn't stop him from using it as a basis to find a way to maintain the tenfold boost in base form.

Turles explained his theory to Paragus, who fell silent in thought.

Paragus didn't know that Super Saiyan Transformation required energy to be concentrated in the back to stimulate the production of S-Cells. But based on his own research, he could vaguely sense that Turles was right.

If Turles's theory was correct, then Saiyans could draw on the power boost of Great Ape Power without actually transforming into Great Apes. They might be able to retain their sanity while enjoying the tenfold boost, which would make their increase in fighting ability far more significant than just a tenfold increase.

A warrior with nothing but animal instincts was completely different from one who remained rational and had extensive combat experience. With the same battle power, the latter could easily crush the former.

Paragus couldn't hold back any longer. He looked at Turles with hope and asked:

"Have you figured out how to stop the spine from being involved and make only the tail absorb the Blutz Waves?"

But Turles fell silent again, only smiling at Paragus.

"Damn it!"

Seeing that look on Turles's face again, Paragus finally lost his temper and cursed aloud.

"You... You..." Paragus pointed at Turles, too angry to speak.

Just as Paragus was about to lose control and start a fight with Turles, the laboratory door opened once more. Raditz walked in, carrying a severed tail.

As soon as Raditz returned, Turles stopped teasing Paragus and hurried over to take Broly's severed tail from him.

Turles stroked the fluffy tail and couldn't resist twirling it in his hands. He only stopped when he noticed the others staring at him strangely, then gave a slight cough to cover his embarrassment.

After handing Broly's tail to Carl, Turles resumed his cold expression and looked Raditz up and down.

Turles had recently given Raditz a bit of a complex from training him. When Raditz saw Turles sizing him up, he instinctively took a step back, then immediately turned to flee.

But Turles was far too fast. Before Raditz could react, Turles had grabbed him by the collar.

Seeing that escape was impossible, Raditz slowly turned back with a miserable expression. "Turles, can I please not do this?"

Turles remained expressionless and refused Raditz's plea. He hauled Raditz out of the laboratory and flew straight toward a distant clearing!
