Vegeta's Squad

Raditz was born with the potential of a high-class warrior and was selected for Vegeta's team. However, he relied on his birth assessment rather than training, bullied weaker opponents, feared stronger ones, and usually performed minor support work during missions. This left him at the bottom of Vegeta and Nappa's hierarchy, where Nappa regularly bullied him. 10 11

When Turles encountered Vegeta's squad on Planet B1000, Raditz mistook him for Bardock because of their near-identical appearance. After Turles effortlessly defeated Vegeta, Raditz chose to leave Vegeta's group and follow him. 9 10

Training Under Turles and Paragus

Turles handed Raditz over to Paragus for training, viewing his unfulfilled potential as worth developing. Raditz initially feared the harsh regimen and repeatedly attempted to avoid training, but he followed Turles's orders out of fear and loyalty. 11 15 17

During the mission on Kano Planet, Raditz struggled against a pirate leader despite holding the nominal advantage. He was severely injured and pleaded for Turles not to abandon him; Turles saved him but warned that another failure would be his last. 16

Turles later used Raditz as the primary test subject for research into Saiyan Great Ape Power. Raditz repeatedly lost control during forced transformations before successfully manifesting a controlled, fur-covered form that retained the Great Ape's tenfold amplification. 30 34

Rise and Earth Journey

In his transformed state, Raditz defeated Paragus and used Ki Sensing to block attacks that previously would have overwhelmed him. The form's time limit remained a critical weakness: once it expired, he reverted to base and was again vulnerable to Paragus. 34 35

On Earth, Raditz met his younger brother, Son Goku/Kakarot. He tried to act as Goku's protective elder brother, but their spar demonstrated that Goku possessed superior fighting skill at comparable power levels. 47 48

Turles later critically injured Raditz to test the effects of a Senzu Bean. The recovery increased Raditz's base power to around 50,000, after which he attacked Turles in anger and overconfidence. Turles evaded every attack and ended the confrontation with a warning. 49 50

Appearance

Raditz is a Saiyan with exceptionally long, spiky black hair that extends past his knees, a brown tail usually wrapped around his waist, and Frieza Force battle armor. 14 47

He also possesses considerable Saiyan pride. Gaining strength makes him boastful—particularly after surpassing Paragus in transformed combat power—and his near-death recovery briefly convinces him that he can challenge Turles. 34 35 50

Under Turles's influence, Raditz becomes more respectful toward others, including the Namekian elder on Muhua Planet. He also shows genuine affection toward Goku after learning they are brothers, even if his confidence is damaged by Goku's superior combat instincts. 40 47 48
