Background / History

Li Hao, a human from Earth, awakens in the body of Turles after the Saiyan's invasion squad is annihilated. The original Turles had entered the mission with a combat power of 1,200, but a native consumed a Spirit Fruit, surpassed 5,000 combat power, and killed the entire squad. Turles used an artificial moon to become a Great Ape and kill the native, only to die from his own injuries after reverting; Li Hao then takes control of the body. 1

With the invaded planet collapsing after its life energy is drained, Turles escapes in a single-person Saiyan spaceship and retrieves the surviving seed of the Tree of Might. The disaster leaves him convinced that power is the only reliable protection in the universe. 1

He briefly returns to a Frieza Force base on Planet K9527, where Frieza's presence terrifies him into prioritizing survival over Saiyan pride. Rather than openly defy Frieza, Turles begins planning a quiet escape from the Frieza Force's influence. 2

Appearance

Turles is a lean, dark-complexioned Saiyan whose resemblance to Son Goku is striking enough for others to mistake them for relatives. Unlike Goku's open and innocent expression, Turles carries a mature, guarded demeanor that can make him appear sinister at first glance. 3 47

  • Black, crab-like spiked hair 3
  • Dark brown Saiyan tail, usually wrapped around his waist 2
  • Lean face and conventionally handsome features 3
  • Slightly darker skin than Son Goku 47
  • Favors battle armor and later wears a flexible, form-fitting combat suit of his own design 2 24

Personality

Turles is pragmatic, calculating, and intensely focused on survival. Frieza's overwhelming power frightens him, but rather than surrender to despair, he uses his knowledge of the universe and willingness to retreat to plan around stronger enemies. 2 12

His leadership is frequently manipulative. He turns Paragus's hatred of Frieza into support for his plans, initially exploits Broly's trusting nature to build a friendship, and admits that rescuing captives on Obsidian Planet is partly intended to earn Dero's trust. 6 7 21

Despite this ruthlessness, Turles is not indifferent to others. He repeatedly protects Raditz despite criticizing his weakness, comforts Broly after their destructive transformations, and aims to improve the Saiyans' reputation rather than merely rebuild their fighting force. 16 32 37

Turles is driven by loneliness as much as ambition. His status as a transmigrator leaves him insecure about his place in the world, and pursuing greater strength gives him a sense of reality and safety. His ultimate stated ambition is to become a god. 36 44

Abilities & Skills

Ki Control and Ki Sensing

Turles possesses exceptional Ki control, developed through meditation and observation rather than traditional Saiyan combat alone. He can sense other fighters, read hostile intent, and suppress his own presence completely. 4 5

  • Suppresses his combat power to zero, rendering his Scouter useless 4
  • Tracks opponents by their Ki over long distances 4 19
  • Uses sensed intent and energy flow to evade attacks from stronger opponents 5
  • Trains Raditz in Ki control and power suppression 38

Energy Techniques

Turles studies and reverse-engineers techniques associated with Earth fighters, giving him a broader fighting style than most Saiyans. 18 32

  • Solar Flare — Blinds Paragus long enough for Turles to escape their first battle. 5
  • Afterimage Technique — Creates convincing false images to confuse opponents unable to sense Ki; used decisively against Dodoria and Great Ape Broly. 24 32
  • Kamehameha — Fires and redirects a powerful blue-white beam attack; later clashes it with Blue's Special Beam Cannon. 18 42
  • Ki Blasts — Uses concentrated blasts to defeat arena opponents and target Broly's exposed tail wound. 16 24 32
  • Technique instruction — Teaches Broly the Destructo Disc after reconstructing it from his knowledge of Earth techniques. 27 32

Pseudo-Ultra Instinct

Turles develops Pseudo-Ultra Instinct as an imperfect, self-created counterpart to the angels' Ultra Instinct. Rather than separating body and consciousness, he uses mental simulation to calculate possible attack trajectories and direct his body accordingly. 32

  • Allows near-perfect evasion against Great Ape Broly, whose power is vastly greater than his own 32
  • Enhances his ability to notice weaknesses and combat details 32
  • Cannot be sustained for long due to the immense mental strain of continuously recalculating combat data 32
  • Leaves him mentally exhausted and in need of recovery after use 32

Great Ape Power Research

Turles identifies the Saiyan tail as the key to the Great Ape transformation and makes it a major subject of his research. He can stimulate the tail with mental energy or reproduce full-moon Blutz Waves with an Artificial Moon. 26 30

  • Triggers Great Ape form without a full moon by stimulating his tail 26 27
  • Gains the standard tenfold Great Ape amplification 27
  • Initially loses control and attacks indiscriminately after transforming 26 30
  • Reverts by directing mental energy through his tail, but is left severely weakened afterward 27
  • Claims to have discovered a way to preserve the Great Ape boost in base form 33
  • Uses Raditz as an experimental subject to gather comparative data on Great Ape Power 28 30

Mental Simulation Training

During interstellar travel, Turles trains inside a mental simulation space modeled after methods he remembers from Son Goku's future training. 13

  • Simulates battles against Broly, Vegeta, Paragus, and opponents from his memories 13
  • Repeats simulations to identify flaws in his techniques and decision-making 13
  • Cannot safely teach the method to Broly, whose unstable mental state nearly damages the spaceship during an attempt 13

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Tree of Might seed — Retrieved from the destroyed invasion planet; Turles keeps it as a potential source of Spirit Fruit but avoids planting it carelessly because it drains a planet's life energy. 1 12
  • Single-person Saiyan spaceship — Used to escape the collapsing invasion planet and reach the Frieza Force base. 1 2
  • Gravity Chamber — Built with Kabru assistance; Turles trains from 2× gravity up to 15× gravity, sustaining serious injuries during the process. 18
  • Artificial Moon — A Ki-created imitation moon that emits Blutz Waves to trigger Great Ape transformations. 30
  • Hyperspace Spaceship — Lent to Turles for two months through his agreement with Bels and the Mercenary Alliance. 38
  • Points Watch — Mercenary Arena device that records points earned through combat missions and matches. 23
  • Black Gold Card — A card issued by Bels with a one-million-credit limit. 23

Relationships

  • Broly — His closest companion and initially a target of manipulation due to Broly's simplicity. Turles teaches him self-control and literacy, while Broly repeatedly protects Turles during his Great Ape incidents. 6 13 26 32
  • Paragus — An uneasy ally, rival, and unwilling training partner. Turles uses Paragus's desire for Saiyan restoration while frequently challenging his authority and ambitions. 5 7 33 37
  • Raditz — Recruited from Vegeta's group and trained as Turles's subordinate. Turles is harsh toward him but intervenes to protect him from Paragus and pushes him toward greater strength. 10 17 35 38
  • Karl — Kabru scientist and loyal subordinate who helps construct Turles's Gravity Chamber, manages medical treatment, and supports his long-term settlement plans. 12 18 32
  • Dero — Namekian ally whose people Turles helps rescue from slavery. Their shared status as survivors of endangered races develops into friendship and mutual trust. 20 22 39
  • Bels — Obsidian Planet manager for the Cosmic Mercenary Alliance. Their relationship is transactional: Bels provides resources and work, while Turles supplies immense combat value. 22 23 38
  • Mr. Popo — A source of combat guidance on Earth. Mr. Popo exposes Turles's overreliance on Ki Sensing and teaches him to trust physical senses as well. 46
  • Son Goku — A Saiyan contemporary who closely resembles Turles. Their first meeting is tense but calm, with Turles recognizing Goku's importance and advising Raditz to restrain himself. 47
  • Blue — Namekian sparring partner from Muhua Planet. Their battles demonstrate mutual respect, and they cooperate to redirect their strongest attacks away from the planet. 41 42
  • Jaco and Tights — Turles rescues them from space pirates on Kano Planet. Jaco fears and distrusts him, while Tights finds him unusually familiar and approachable for a Saiyan. 15 16
