Background / History
Jade Maiden Sect
Fang Meiyun became Sect Master of the Jade Maiden Sect and drove its hostility toward the Joyous Union Sect. Her suppression of that sect turned a previously less hostile relationship into open rivalry. Tang Yu later identified her public humiliation of him and interference with his business as the basis of their feud 609.
Her aversion to men was rooted in both childhood abuse by her father and her abandonment by Xiao Le after she refused to surrender her primal yin. She thereafter regarded men as enemies of the Dao and treated male offenders far more harshly than female ones 640 670.
As sect master, she expelled the core disciple Li Hui and confiscated her storage ring, triggering public accusations of greed and criticism from the sect’s Supreme Elders. The controversy damaged the Jade Maiden Sect’s reputation and contributed to Fang Meiyun’s growing resentment toward Tang Yu 626.
Her vendetta against Tang Yu increasingly overrode sect interests. She ordered elite Jade Maiden Sect disciples to kill him in the secret realm, considering his death more valuable than its treasures 655. She also accused her disciple Ning Qingyan of colluding with Tang Yu and confined her in the Azure Water Formation 670.
Resignation and Betrayal
Meng Zihao and Xiao Xiaole’s public pursuit of Fang Meiyun caused a scandal within the Jade Maiden Sect. Their presence undermined her authority, particularly because she had enforced strict rules concerning Dao companions while allowing both men to remain close to her 681 683.
Following the Disciplinary Hall’s wrongful punishment of Wu Qian and the resulting conflict between sect halls, Fang Meiyun stepped down as Sect Master. Ning Qingyan was subsequently pardoned and released from confinement 683.
Fang Meiyun left to establish a new sect and sought support from Ning Qingyan, Xiao Xiaole, and Meng Zihao. Ning Qingyan refused to abandon the Jade Maiden Sect, while Xiao Xiaole agreed to become Fang Meiyun’s Dao companion and kill Tang Yu for her 686.
Xiao Xiaole later killed Fang Meiyun after gaining her trust, taking her belongings and leaving her apparent death behind him 691. Her divided soul survived, however, possessing an old sow and beginning a new cultivation path driven by vengeance against Xiao Xiaole and men in general 692.
Rebirth and the Fist Sect
After possessing the pig, Fang Meiyun was captured by beast-tamer Zhou Yunsheng. During an attempted spirit-pet refinement, she overwhelmed his soul, seized control of his body, drained his cultivation through dual cultivation, and regained a human form 717.
She founded the Fist Sect on Crape Myrtle Mountain, declaring its mission to unite female cultivators and place them above men. The sect recruited women who embraced its teachings, while male followers were classified as low-status “Black Sheep Disciples” 779 797.
Fang Meiyun established a network of spiritual seeds within her disciples. This allowed them to borrow her cultivation, enabled her to absorb their cultivation and faith after death, and tied her strength directly to the Fist Sect’s expansion 797 831.
She conceived Xiao Xiaole’s child through a divine ability, intending for the child to avenge her against him. Their son, Xiao Yunle, later absorbed Xiao Xiaole’s true essence and gained power comparable to the Body Fusion Realm 775 833.
Conflict with Tang Yu and the Central Divine Continent
Fang Meiyun repeatedly clashed with Tang Yu during the campaign against the Fist Sect. She used her Dharma Avatar, formations, domains, and injury-transfer abilities, but fled after Tang Yu’s curse and pressure forced heavy losses among her Black Sheep Disciples 930 932.
Afterward, she entered the Divine Deer Sect and became an elder. There, she continued recruiting female cultivators into the Fist Sect while secretly using formations and visions to indoctrinate Divine Deer Sect disciples 971 1028.
Her ambition expanded to seizing control of the Divine Deer Sect and the Great Wu Dynasty, with the ultimate goal of becoming an “Immortal Empress.” She captured Huang Yuezhao and planned to possess her body, while treating Tang Yu as the greatest obstacle to her rise 1027 1028 1058.
During her final confrontation with Tang Yu and the Dragon River Sect, Tang Yu contaminated her meridians with the Snow Dao, sealing her cultivation. Fang Meiyun then ordered her followers to die for her cause before Tang Yu used a divine artifact drum to seal her pig demon body and expel her soul 1065 1067.
Appearance
Fang Meiyun was originally described as plain-looking, with a younger version of herself having darker skin and a shy manner. Her later pig-demon incarnation could assume human form, though it retained features that others found unattractive 617 735 971.
- Her youthful appearance was restored temporarily through an age-reversion spell 681.
- Her true demon form is a giant pig demon 833.
- Tang Yu’s popular fictional portrayals of “Fairy Meiyun” greatly idealized her appearance, creating a public image unlike the real Fang Meiyun 624 741.
Personality
Fang Meiyun is proud, controlling, and intensely vindictive. She took criticism of her leadership personally, reacted harshly to perceived betrayal, and allowed her hatred of Tang Yu to influence major Jade Maiden Sect decisions 626 655 670.
Her experience with Xiao Le and later Xiao Xiaole left her deeply distrustful of men, yet she remained emotionally attached to him long after his betrayal. This contradiction shaped both her pursuit of revenge and her treatment of those around her 670 744 908.
As leader of the Fist Sect, she framed her ambitions as liberation for female cultivators. However, she also manipulated recruits, controlled disciples through spiritual seeds, used followers as sources of cultivation and injury vessels, and demanded absolute loyalty 797 831 932.
