Don't Lend Him Money!
On Tuesday morning, when Lynch got up, he noticed that Klein's face was still a little pale, all because of him, so he unusually paid for the carriage fare.
However, when he got off the carriage, he hesitated and asked Klein for half of the money. After all, he had paid for medical expenses yesterday, and he was worried that Klein might misunderstand if he had to pay for the carriage again today.
Lynch went underground to study again in the morning. Old Neil had completely discovered the educational method of learning through play, so his classes were now particularly interesting. Lynch and Klein learned very quickly, and by around ten o'clock they had finished today's lessons.
Afterwards, having nothing else to do, the two of them went upstairs to play cards with Leonard and Royale.
This is a card game invented by Roselle to Fighting Evil; it's quite fun if you don't gamble.
Unfortunately, all their games required gambling. Lynch gritted his teeth and imitated the Seer Pathway, then secretly performed divination in every game.
Royale and the others kept their eyes on Klein, worried that Klein might use his Beyonder Ability, but they weren't worried about Lynch, because no one knew that Lynch could actually imitate other Pathway.
"Give me the money! Give me the money!"
After winning another round, Lynch triumphantly demanded money and even snatched a soli from Klein, which infuriated Klein to the point that he almost broke off all ties with him.
I thought our relationship no longer needed proof of money!
Klein glared at him shamelessly, but Lynch pretended not to hear.
Only money can prove their brotherhood; without money, where does brotherhood come from?
The reason they're so close is because at the beginning, Lynch deliberately let Klein avoid paying half of his medical bills and shamelessly stayed at Klein's house, eating and drinking for free.
Lynch stuffed the money into his bulging wallet, making Klein's eyes widen in astonishment.
I want to borrow money!
Klein announced loudly.
He now wants to borrow five hundred pounds from Lynch, then disappear without a trace, so Lynch can never find him again.
What do you need the money for?
Leonard stood warily to the side and asked, looking Klein up and down, then a look of knowing something flashed in his eyes.
"You didn't let Lynch win on purpose just to borrow money, did you? Don't tell me you didn't use divination; I discovered someone used extraordinary powers during the game just now!"
Klein:...
He wanted to deny it, but he had secretly done a divination earlier. Although he hadn't seen the result, if Leonard said that, he really couldn't deny it.
"I was just joking, I don't need the money at all!"
He could only grit his teeth and say, wishing he could tear Leonard to pieces in his mind. How could this guy always suspect him of having a problem?
"Did you hear that? Lynch, Klein isn't short of money, so don't lend him any. You certainly don't want Klein to suddenly end up like Old Neil, buying a lot of extraordinary materials and then accidentally going astray, right? Old Neil was shrewd, but who knows if Klein will have that kind of good luck!"
Leonard turned and deliberately looked at Lynch.
He had previously told Lynch that Klein was suspicious, but Lynch had told him he was overthinking it, so he knew that no matter how much he said, it would be useless, so he simply used this excuse to make Lynch wary.
Klein asked to borrow money for no reason and even used extraordinary power to help Lynch win. He must be asking for more than just a small amount. He suspected that Klein was up to something.
Although he guessed that Klein didn't harbor much ill will towards them after spending time together, he still had to be wary. What if Klein hurt Tingen?
No one will lend Klein money; he'll make sure Klein's evil plan falls through!
Lynch almost laughed, but he still nodded in agreement.
"Don't worry! Old Neil was lucky. I also discovered the problem, which prevented him from losing control."
"I can't guarantee Klein won't go astray. After all, he even studied Antigonus Notebook. We need to keep a close eye on academics like him; their curiosity is too strong. I certainly won't lend him a large sum of money."
Lynch said righteously.
He never intended to lend Klein a lot of money, fearing that Klein might fake his death and never return with the money.
He had previously said he wouldn't take the money from the deal with the evil god, which gave him an excuse to stop Klein. Now that he has made a promise to Miss Justice at Sefirah Castle, that excuse is gone. He was already worried that Klein would ask him for money, so how should he refuse?
Now, Leonard has come up with this excuse for him.
Klein looked at Leonard with a sense of despair, thinking, "That guy is really too much. He's even blocked my way to borrow money."
Sooner or later, he'll go to Sefirah Castle to divine what little secret Leonard is hiding. This guy always acts like a protagonist, and he's always wanted to expose him completely.
"You two didn't have a fight, did you?"
Just as Klein was speechless, Dunn Door Opening and walked in, asking a question.
Klein shook his head.
He couldn't very well say that Leonard had suspected him again, just because he had secretly used divination techniques while playing cards.
Honestly, Leonard is amazing. He only used it once and he was discovered.
"It's good that there wasn't an argument. There's been a problem in Plus Ten Town, suspected to be an evil spirit appearing, and there have already been several incidents. You guys go and handle it. Leonard, you, Royale, and Old Neil, go together!"
Lynch raised his hand.
"I'll go with them too! I have nothing else to do anyway."
Continuing to play cards here would definitely get them discovered, since Leonard already knew, but Leonard only escaped unscathed because he thought it was Klein.
Staying in the team without playing cards isn't good either; everyone else is playing, and if he doesn't, he'll seem like an outsider. So he decided to do a mission. He just secretly did a divination and confirmed that the mission wasn't dangerous.
It's somewhat similar to what Klein had Mr. Azik do in the original story, all to steal the energy from the Sun Sacred Emblem to create a talisman.
However, Klein has not sought Mr. Azik's help and is unaware of the secrets within the Sun Sacred Emblem.
This still happened, probably to give Klein a chance to discover the problem and thus provide Klein with an early means of dealing with the enemy.
Lynch guessed that this was probably arranged by the Goddess.
So it's definitely not dangerous, and he can go and accumulate some merit.
Dunn glanced at Lynch, hesitated for a moment, and finally nodded.
"Then it's the four of you. Leonard, you make sure to take good care of them."
Dunn looked at Leonard.
Leonard nodded, but then he looked at Klein.
"Old Neil is getting on in Plus Ten Town is quite a distance. Let's go with Klein! I'll help him out."
Leonard smiled at Klein, looking like a good buddy, which made Klein roll his eyes.
That's going too far!
Why is this person thinking of him even when they're on a mission?
If he hadn't been certain that Leonard was suspicious of him, he would have thought Leonard had fallen in love with him.
Are you sure you can do it?
Dunn's grey eyes looked at Klein.
Klein nodded. It should be fine; after all, he was the Clown now, so going on missions wasn't a big deal.
"Then it's the four of you. You can apply for a Sealed Artifact, the Holy Symbol of the Sun, number 3-0782. I'll go and sign it for you."
Dunn turned and left, while Leonard turned to look at Klein and whispered in Klein ear, "I'm sure I'll find out your secret!"
Klein:...
If you're going to talk, can you please not stand so close?
