Background and History

Azik initially had no memory of his early life and believed he might have been abandoned. Meeting Lynch triggered the return of a crucial memory: he had once been Lynch's great-grandfather, and Lynch closely resembled Joshua Trance, whom Azik had known as a teenager. Learning that Joshua had died and left Lynch in poverty devastated him. 41 42

He first presented himself to Lynch as Joshua's old friend and offered him an assistant position paying five pounds weekly, as well as a place to live. Lynch declined because of his Nighthawks commitment and the need to protect his secrets. 41

Azik became Lynch's principal source of safety and guidance in Tingen. He recognized that Lynch was entangled in danger, repeatedly urged him to avoid the city's escalating crisis, and supplied him with Extraordinary items and tutoring. 42 49 50 102

When Lynch brought Megose to him after the failed divine-descent incident, Azik performed a ritual that made her overlook inconsistencies in her memories and prevented Extraordinary individuals from identifying her former involvement for one year. 72

Despite his overwhelming strength, Azik is cautious. He chose not to kill Ince Zangwill after sensing that doing so could trigger a more dangerous outcome, prioritizing Lynch's survival over immediate revenge. 98 102
