Old Neil's Fatigue
Megose was deeply moved. After getting home, she kept thinking about how she should make it up to Lynch, feeling that Lynch must have sacrificed a lot for her.
Lynch, whom he thanked, had already returned to the security company.
He ran around all afternoon and didn't get back until after 5 p. m., almost time to leave work. This would be considered absenteeism, so he cautiously entered, afraid of being caught and scolded.
To his surprise, not only did Old Neil and the others not react, but Dunn also acted as if he hadn't seen him skip work for an afternoon.
Leonard, however, saw him and asked curiously, "Where have you been? Dunn was looking for you!"
Lynch answered honestly:
"I ran into Teacher Azik on the way. I had a great chat with him at the last teachers' gathering, and he was willing to teach me. So he insisted on taking a test on my studies."
Leonard gave him a sympathetic look.
He chuckled mischievously.
"Did he test you?"
He sent me back home.
Lynch sighed, and then he heard a lot of laughter, clearly indicating that quite a few people were listening to their conversation.
Lynch pursed his lips, pretending not to hear their laughter, and went back to his office to pick up his books again.
Today is Saturday, and he has an exam on Tuesday. We really can't afford to delay.
Time flies when you're focused. Lynch barely felt like he'd been watching for long before Dunn told him he had to go to Chanis Gate for his shift.
Lynch hurried downstairs, not forgetting to grab his pile of books; he planned to study that evening in his small office outside the Chanis Gate.
To his surprise, Old Neil followed him.
"I saw you have exams coming up, so I came to supervise your studies. Tell me, is there anything else you need me to copy? I'm just killing time."
Old Neil glanced at Lynch with a displeased look.
Lynch rubbed his eyes, finding it hard to believe that Old Neil, whom he had treated as a laborer, would actually come to him for exploitation.
Isn't this Old Man trying to revive his fiancée at home?
He probably guessed right. This Old Man was just old, had no family, and had nothing better to do than go astray, eventually losing control and turning into Monster.
Lynch really wanted the church to examine Old Neil right now to see if he could get better, but he couldn't think of a reason for the time being, so he could only continue his previous Demon behavior.
"These are books Teacher Azik gave me. He wanted me to learn this as well, but as you know, Teacher Azik and I are only slightly closer, so I can't borrow this book for too long, so..."
When Lynch saw that Old Neil had taken the initiative to ask, he immediately handed over the heavy book that Mr. Azik had sent him, as if he were entrusting everything to Old Neil Old Neil, which left Old Neil dumbfounded.
"Are you kidding me?"
He couldn't help but ask.
Lynch felt guilty for a moment, then quickly said that this was really important to him, and that if he returned it to Mr. Azik, he would lose some of the materials for his future studies.
"You know, I got into the Tingen University, and I have to go back to take exams every semester. If I don't attend classes, there will definitely be a lot of problems. What if the Tingen University expels me? That's why I cherish these materials from the faculty. They represent whether I can truly finish university."
Old Neil:...
That's what they said, but...
never mind.
Old Neil sat across from Lynch at the table, picked up Dunn's pen and the team's free printing paper, and began copying.
He really wanted to go back and revive his fiancée, but Lynch had already used up most of the materials, so without the materials, it would all be for nothing.
He was incredibly bored staying at home, so he decided to come and help Lynch instead.
Before Lynch came, he didn't feel lonely at all, but now that Lynch is always coming to see him, he can't even stand a moment of peace.
Lynch was unaware of Old Neil's thoughts. He glanced at Old Neil huffing and puffing as he copied the book, chuckled to himself for a moment, and then quickly picked up a book and started reading as well.
He dared not switch to the Reader Pathway while on the Goddess's Nighthawks squad, and could only rely on sheer willpower to learn.
However, this time it seems to be Leonard the Sleepless switched roles. His memory is much better, at least compared to the Captain's Sleepless, which makes people feel much better.
Lynch studied all night, but Old Neil couldn't keep going all night and fell asleep in the middle of the night.
Lynch covered him with a coat, without disturbing his sleep.
He didn't wake up Old Neil until he switched shifts with Leonard in the morning.
"Oh my god! I've only copied a few pages, when will I be able to let you copy them next time?"
Old Neil got up and deliberately showed a worried look, really wanting Lynch to tell him he would copy the rest himself. But that bastard Lynch just grinned and shoved the book into Old Neil's hands.
"Take it home and copy it. Think about my studies. What if I get expelled from the Tingen University if you don't help me copy it?"
Old Neil:...
I have a feeling that I've taken on some terrible job.
It's still the kind of job without pay.
Old Neil wanted to refuse Lynch's request, but remembering what Lynch had said, he had no choice but to reluctantly agree.
Once he finishes copying this book, he will never touch these books again.
It's infuriating! And what's even more infuriating is that he actually got this job himself.
Old Neil scratched his hair, feeling completely overwhelmed.
"Alright, it's time to go home. Would you like to hire a carriage? Could you give me a ride?"
Lynch asked Old Neil with a shameless grin.
Old Neil took a breath, suddenly questioning the meaning of life. How could there be such a shameless person in this world?
But even when Lynch refused, he didn't say anything, and could only reluctantly accept Lynch's act of hitching a ride on his carriage.
"Go back and rest. Don't rush to copy the book. Although that book is quite important, I think your health is more important. You definitely didn't sleep well last night."
Before getting out of the car, Lynch gave these instructions.
Old Neil snorted, thinking that this guy hadn't completely lost his humanity.
"Okay, okay, stop nagging!"
He muttered to himself, but couldn't help but curl the corners of his mouth into a smile.
However, when he looked at the book in his hand again, his smile turned into distress.
Although he genuinely found Lynch quite interesting and couldn't help but take care of him, he was now genuinely a little scared about having him copy things.
He had previously worried that he would feel lonely and afraid of the quiet when he went home alone.
But now he wasn't so afraid anymore; all he felt was despair. How long would he have to keep copying?
If you factor in the time he spends at work and cooking for himself when he gets home, it seems like it will be a long time before he finishes copying all of this for Lynch.
With that in mind, Old Neil decided to bring back the maid and the butler. At least he couldn't be the only one copying books; having another person would surely make things better for him.
