Background
Jiang Bai was raised in Niuma Village by his mother, Jiang Ning. After her death when he was five, he refused adoption and supported himself by herding cattle and horses for villagers. His self-reliance was aided by memories and a mentality from a past life, giving him composure beyond his age. Jiang Ning’s final words to him were, “Do not hate your father and mother.” 3
At age six, Jiang Bai underwent martial soul awakening at the village Awakening House. He expected to inherit Jiang Ning’s ordinary long-spear martial soul, but instead awakened the Seven Treasures Glazed Pagoda and Innate Soul Power Level 9. Martial Soul Hall immediately recruited him and arranged his transfer to Spirit Academy in Martial Soul City. 3 4 6
Before departing, he opened the storage bracelet Jiang Ning had left for him, finding books, healing salves, and 150 Gold Soul Coins. He visited her grave, promised to survive and become strong, then left Niuma Village under the escort of Martial Soul Hall knights. 5 6
At Spirit Academy, Jiang Bai became roommates with Yan and Xie Yue, began formal meditation training, and pursued combat training despite being considered a support-type spirit master. Qian Renxue later taught him swordsmanship and helped procure his first spirit ring. 7 9 14 16
His close bond with Qian Renxue brought him under Bibi Dong’s scrutiny. Although Bibi Dong initially regarded him as a potentially useful pawn against the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, she later attacked him directly. Jiang Bai survived severe injuries only because his bound dragon spirits carried him to the Emerald Swans of the Star Dou Forest for treatment. 24 29 36
After recovering, Jiang Bai abandoned any immediate return to Martial Soul Hall, resolved to seek strength and revenge, revisited Niuma Village and his mother’s grave, and targeted Yu Xiaogang as retaliation against Bibi Dong. 36 40
Appearance
As a child, Jiang Bai had slightly messy black hair, wheat-colored skin from outdoor labor, a thin frame, and notably bright, clear eyes. 3
By age twelve, he had grown to nearly 1.7 meters tall with clear features, bright eyes, a straight nose, pale lips, and long black hair usually tied in a high bun with a simple silver hair crown. 26
- Wears practical blue-and-white martial attire during travel and cultivation. 26 37
- Developed a sturdier physique and visible muscle definition after absorbing his first spirit ring. 17
- His body was further strengthened by ten-thousand-year Whale Glue. 45
Personality
Jiang Bai is calm, practical, and intensely self-reliant. Even as a child living alone, he prioritized survival and long-term planning over dependence on others. He dislikes meaningless socializing and keeps the mutation of his martial soul hidden whenever possible. 3 25
He is relentlessly focused on strength because he distrusts the safety of being a support-type spirit master without powerful protection. This drive leads him to meditate obsessively, temper his body, learn swordsmanship, and seek exceptional dragon-type spirit rings rather than accepting ordinary options. 3 9 14 45
He is also direct and mercenary when negotiating, openly demanding compensation from Qian Renxue for accompanying her shopping and securing a high-quality spirit ring as payment. 15 Despite this pragmatism, he shows loyalty and care toward those he accepts: he buys Whale Rubber for Yan, protects a young Ice Jade Scorpion during an avalanche, and remains devoted to his mother’s memory. 15 39 49
Abilities & Skills
Seven / Nine Treasures Glazed Pagoda
Jiang Bai’s tool martial soul initially appeared as the Seven Treasures Glazed Pagoda, but its spirit-ring effects mutated into the ability to house and draw upon dragon spirits. Following a Heavenly Tribulation and the effects of the Aromatic Silk Beauty, it evolved into the Nine Treasures Glazed Pagoda. 4 17 56
- Initially possessed Innate Soul Power Level 9. 4
- Conceals its true mutated abilities from most people, who believe he is an ordinary Seven Treasures Glazed Pagoda support spirit master. 25
- Can summon bound dragon spirits from the pagoda’s layers. 17 48
- Its evolved internal space absorbed the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, surrounding terrain, and most of its immortal herbs. 56 57
- The internal space supports external personnel and spirit beasts and has balanced energy attributes suitable for cultivation. 56
Dragon Spirit Possession
Instead of conventional pagoda amplification, Jiang Bai can temporarily draw on the abilities of dragons whose spirit rings he has absorbed.
- Gains substantial boosts to strength, speed, reflexes, and senses. 17
- Receives elemental control corresponding to the possessed dragon, including fire control from the Fire Dragon. 17
- Can combine the boosts of his Fire, Earth, and Wind Dragons for combat. 47
- Possession produces interwoven dragon-scale patterns over his skin and greatly strengthens his body. 47
- His three-dragon possession let him contend beyond his nominal rank, though it remained insufficient against Bibi Dong. 36
Bound Dragon Spirits
Each dragon absorbed through his pagoda retains consciousness and becomes a companion bound by the rules of the spirit ring.
- Fire Dragon (“Boss” / Eldest) — Jiang Bai’s first bound dragon; grants fire control and can breathe fire independently. 17 40
- Earth Dragon (Second) — One of Jiang Bai’s first three dragon spirits; assists in travel, defense, and possession. 33 47
- Wind Dragon (Third) — Provides aerial travel and assists with reconnaissance and possession. 33 37 47
- Ice Dragon (Fourth) — An approximately 8,000-year-old pure-blooded sub-dragon that voluntarily sacrificed itself after defeat; can absorb heavenly treasures such as Myriad-Year Profound Ice Marrow. 48 52
Swordsmanship and Physical Combat
Qian Renxue trained Jiang Bai in grips, stances, attacks, blocks, and basic sword movements so that he would not remain helpless in close combat. 14 15
- Demonstrated enough physical strength and reaction speed to defeat Yan in a no-spirit fight. 24
- Uses physical conditioning and combat technique to compensate for his support-type martial soul. 14 16
- Can form flame-based attacks while drawing on the Fire Dragon’s power. 17 47
Dragon Whisker Needles
Jiang Bai processed Hair Gold from a Crystal Board into Dragon Whisker Needles and used them against the Ice Dragon. 37 47
- Injecting spirit power extends the golden grains into nearly invisible needles. 47
- He lacks specialized hidden-weapon techniques and can only perform basic manipulation. 47
- The needles inflicted severe pain on the Ice Dragon and restricted its movement, creating an opening for Jiang Bai’s victory. 47 48
Equipment / Items
- Storage bracelet — Left by Jiang Ning; has approximately thirty cubic meters of storage space and originally contained books, healing salves, and 150 Gold Soul Coins. 5 6
- Crystal Board — Purchased from Flender for 100 Gold Soul Coins and processed for Hair Gold. 37 47
- Dragon Whisker Needles — Concealed weapon made from Hair Gold. 47
- Silver hair crown — Used to secure his long hair in a high bun. 26
- Myriad-Year Profound Ice Marrow — Received fifteen pieces through his agreement with Snow Empress and Ice Empress. 52
- Ice Extreme Divine Crystals — Obtained all crystals found in the Cold Spring Ice Cave. 52
Relationships
- Jiang Ning — Mother; raised him in Niuma Village and left him a storage bracelet before her death. Jiang Bai regularly honors and repairs her grave. 3 6 39
- Xihai — Childhood friend and fellow cattle-herder; reunited warmly with Jiang Bai after six years apart. 3 38
- Grandma Liu — Village chief who cared for Jiang Bai and Jiang Ning; treats him with grandmotherly concern. 3 4 39
- Qian Renxue — Teacher, confidante, and closest friend during his years at Spirit Academy; taught him swordsmanship, aided his ring acquisition, and exchanged cultivation insights with him. 14 16 25
- Qian Daoliu — Qian Renxue’s grandfather; approved of Jiang Bai as a friend and guide for her, giving him 100,000 Gold Soul Coins, though he later worried about their intimacy. 22 25
- Bibi Dong — Hostile former superior who viewed Jiang Bai as both a potential pawn and an obstacle; her attempt on his life drives his desire for revenge. 24 29 36
- Yan — Former roommate; initially friendly, later fought Jiang Bai over his association with Qian Renxue. Their relationship became strained. 7 24 25
- Xie Yue — Former roommate; generally reserved and attempted unsuccessfully to mediate Jiang Bai’s conflict with Yan. 7 24
- Snow Empress — Ally bound by an Ice God oath to protect Jiang Bai for ten years in exchange for the location of the Myriad-Year Profound Ice Cave; later resides in his pagoda space. 50 53 57
- Ice Empress — Ally and traveling companion; initially distrustful of Jiang Bai but came to recognize him as a friend of the Far North. 50 53
- Four Dragon Beasts — Bound spirit companions who are fiercely loyal to Jiang Bai and saved his life after Bibi Dong’s attack. 17 33 48
