He is defensive of Yu Xiaogang's reputation, initially reacting with anger to criticism of the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul Theory. However, he is capable of critical thought: the article's detailed data and logical examples gradually make him doubt beliefs he had treated as certain. 63
His loyalty can also override his suspicions. Although he recognizes inconsistencies in Yu Xiaogang's account of escaping detention, Tang San suppresses those doubts and agrees to follow him to Monster Academy. 66

Tang San finds Yu Xiaogang trapped in a burning office after the Fire Dragon's attack. He uses Blue Silver Entanglement in an attempt to pull his teacher from the flames, but its paralytic toxin unintentionally affects Yu Xiaogang. Crisis of Faith in Yu Xiaogang
Tang San discovers pages from Refutations and Corrections Regarding Several Issues in the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul Theory, published under the name Jiang Xue'er. Though he initially rejects the criticism, its evidence and reasoning cause him to question Yu Xiaogang's teachings. 63
He later learns from Su Yuntao that Yu Xiaogang has been detained on suspicion of stealing a Martial Soul Hall Elder Token. The accusation deeply unsettles Tang San because of his personal hatred of theft and his faith in his teacher. 65
Departure for Monster Academy
After Tang Hao rescues Yu Xiaogang, Yu takes Tang San and Xiao Wu from Nuoding Academy while they are unconscious. Yu claims that Martial Soul Hall forced him to flee and persuades Tang San to travel to Monster Academy in Suotuo City.
