Before establishing ties with Fate Defying Pavilion, Ning Fengzhi participated in Heaven Dou’s response to the massacres along the Heaven Dou–Star Luo border. He attended discussions with Xue Ye, Dugu Bo, and Salas concerning victims whose blood essence and souls had been removed. When Xue Ye later considered ending the joint investigation with Spirit Hall, Ning Fengzhi urged caution, warning that an abrupt termination could intensify the conflict. 116 118 174

He also took an interest in Ji Juechen after Chen Xin recognized the swordsman’s exceptional ability. The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda’s seven-ring limit prevented Ning Fengzhi from advancing beyond level 79, a restriction shared by the sect’s direct lineage and regarded as the sect’s greatest weakness. He sought a way to overcome it after investigating the Ye Clan’s sudden recovery: Ye Qingyu had survived the Nine-Heart Begonia curse, rare medicinal herbs had entered the market, and the mysterious Fate Defying Pavilion had emerged behind these changes. 192 193

Ning Fengzhi personally visited the Ye Clan with Chen Xin, requesting an audience with the individual who had lifted the curse. To demonstrate his sincerity, he left behind the Seven Treasure Token, which could mobilize the sect’s commercial resources and request aid from its experts. 194

At Fate Defying Pavilion, he reached an agreement with Luo Can for a liquid presented as Marrow Cleansing Spirit Liquid, later identified as Fate-Defying Lake Water. After obtaining his eighth Spirit Ring, Ning Fengzhi shared the remaining liquid with Chen Xin and Ning Rongrong. Ning Fengzhi subsequently arranged a Spirit Ring-hunting trip for Xue Qinghe, using his position as the prince’s teacher to bring both Xue Qinghe and Bai Xue to the Sunset Forest. The meeting enabled Luo Can and Qian Renxue to deal with Bai Xue’s identity as Qian Renxue. 196 198 199

After witnessing Luo Can and Qian Renxue’s overwhelming power, Ning Fengzhi proposed a formal alliance with the Fate Defying Pavilion. When Qian Renxue brought Thousand-Forged Tungsten Steel to Heaven Dou City, Ning Fengzhi attempted to secure the auction through the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s continental auction network. Liu Quan’s victory over a higher-level battle Spirit Master demonstrates the value of individual Soul Tool equipment, but Ning Fengzhi insists on seeing stronger weapons. Rather than immediately accepting Gu Rong’s suggestion to eliminate Ning Tianyuan, Ning Fengzhi waits to expose the challenge publicly.
