Background / History

Raven was born after her mother was deceived by a cult and conceived a child with the demon Trigon. When her mother learned Trigon's nature, she brought Raven to Azarath Sanctuary to purify the demonic power within her. Trigon pursued them, destroyed the sanctuary, and killed Raven's mother and teachers; they teleported Raven to Earth before their deaths 124.

She spent two weeks on Earth searching for help before meeting Ba Di in a dark Manhattan alley. Raven sensed that his soul and will differed from ordinary people and believed he might help seal Trigon. Because her bloodline allowed Trigon to track her, she kept her emotions and demonic power tightly sealed to avoid leading him to Earth 123 124.

Raven worked with Ba Di and Zatara against Trigon's projection. After her seal loosened, memories of Azarath's destruction overwhelmed her, but she chose to cooperate: using her demon blood and a magic array, she transformed Ba Di into a replica of herself and merged into his body to deceive Trigon. The deception failed when Trigon recognized Ba Di's unique soul 137 138 141.

Inspired by Ba Di's refusal to submit, Raven overcame her fear and manifested as a colossal Dark Raven. Her soul-and-dark-energy attack damaged Trigon and created the opening for Ba Di's counterattack, though it could not kill the demon alone 149 150 151. After Trigon's projection was defeated, Raven used her blood together with Trigon's blood in a magic-circle ritual to save Ba Di's collapsing body 158 159.

Ba Di's consciousness subsequently became trapped in an Ego Barrier. Though weakened by the blood ritual, Raven entered his Mind World to rescue him. She lived alongside him there for seventy years, altered memories in an attempt to make him happy, and ultimately helped him break free by facing both his happiness and pain with him 159 164 165 166.

Afterward, Raven remained at Ba Di's side, assisting his rise to power. She captured Poison Ivy, traced the Assassin Alliance across nearly a hundred countries, discovered and sealed its Lazarus Pit, and helped make its eventual takeover possible 196 200 202.

Over the following decade, Raven developed Ba Di's “Ultimate Weapon,” forged from divine artifacts and Yagalas magic, and later helped provide his Emperor Armor and cloak 271 272 327. She also completed a planet-wide magical defense system for the Ba Miu Luo Di Temple planet. Before activating it, she was confronted by Ghost and Phantom Stranger, who captured her to restrain Ba Di; she sealed herself within a blood-red crystal, anticipating his attempt to rescue her 389.

Her bond with Ba Di gradually turns her fear into resolve. She repeatedly risks herself to save him, from entering his Mind World despite Zatara's warning to standing beside him after he confesses to killing Clark 159 191. She believes there is kindness and pain beneath Ba Di's cruelty, even when he rejects that view himself 191.

Despite her grim background, Raven has an eccentric and unexpectedly domestic side. She loves chocolate, enjoys television and games, dislikes green peppers, and once gave Ba Di a crocodile as a pet. During the seventy years in the Mind World, her attempts at cooking, knitting, and caring for Ba Di frequently ended disastrously, while she became an elite professional League of Legends player 164 200.
