Background / History

Tsunade is the granddaughter of the First Hokage, Senju Hashirama, and a student of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. She serves alongside Hiruzen's other students, Jiraiya and Orochimaru, before the three become known as the Legendary Sannin. 1 57 59

At the beginning of the story, she brings her younger brother Nawaki to the Ninja Academy. This period precedes Nawaki's death, her relationship with Dan Katō, and the development of her hemophobia. 1 10

Appearance

Tsunade is introduced as a young woman in a tightly worn jōnin flak jacket, with a notably heroic bearing. At this point in the timeline, she does not yet wear her familiar tea-green haori or bear the diamond-shaped Yin Seal mark on her forehead. 1
