Wooden Amulet

Dr. Morgan wore the Wooden Amulet on his bow tie, and a revolver and Paul's scythe were tucked into his belt.

He was still like a monkey, moving quickly up the wooden ladder and easily climbing two floors.

On the roof, Paul had cut a notch in the waterproof felt to provide Dr. Morgan with a location.

The doctor stood on the plank that Paul had pried open.

He paused briefly, did nothing, but took a few breaths, clutching the Wooden Amulet on his bow tie, ready to flee at any moment.

Through the wooden planks, he could hear Hope scolding the Transparent Monster inside the room.

The reprimand seemed to have an effect, as Dr. Morgan heard the sound of the water flowing beneath his feet slow down.

This reassured Dr. Morgan somewhat—it seemed that Hope did indeed have some control over the Transparent Monster.

Dr. Morgan gave a slight smile; his keen senses made him tremble even before he saw the real Monster.

He was secretly glad that he hadn't followed Lavinia upstairs earlier.

"Get out of here right now!"

Hope, exasperated, shouted from under the plank, "Damn it! Don't damage the wood above, it'll come after you!"

Dr. Morgan ignored Hope's warning.

He waited a while longer, and after confirming that the sound of flowing water hadn't started again, he said, "So that means if I don't cause any problems, there won't be any?"

The voice below fell silent for a moment, as if in thought, "I'm not entirely sure, but it shouldn't be a big problem for now."

"That's good. I just came to say a few words to you."

Hope calmed down and warned, "Wilbur came back today, be careful. He listens to him more than I do."

"He's already gone to Arkham and won't be back for a while," Dr. Morgan replied. "I was going to ask Lavinia."

"What?"

"Do I need to treat Lavinia as an enemy?"

Despite being separated by a ceiling, Hope instinctively shook her head. "No need, she's not a threat—but we can't trust her either."

"What I mean is, would it be alright if Paul, as a friend, asked Lavinia to deliver something to you?"

"This has never happened before—" Hope replied, "At least I don't know of any precedent for it—"

Hope recalled Lavinia's attitude towards her these past few days, "But it should be possible, you can try."

"Then," Dr. Morgan said, "We want you to get out of here."

He said, "Although some preparations have been made, things over there may be hindered."

Obstacles----

Hope understood Dr. Morgan's meaning. "You want to borrow my identity as a member of the the Whateley family?"

"You're very smart. Is there anything you want?"

"Two—airtight bags—big enough for me to crawl into," Hope said.

Dr. Morgan quickly realized, "Is it for your magic?"

"Yes."

Are you confident?

"No, I tried once with my sheets, but that thing was too fast; it practically crawled into my sheets before I could even get in."

Hope replied, "Perhaps a thicker fabric would be better—but—"

He then asked, "Is Elizabeth with you?"

Dr. Morgan thought for a second, "You want that Wooden Amulet?"

"With that thing in the way, I should have a brief opportunity to use magic before this guy crawls in," Hope replied.

Hope only needed a short time; the storeroom and the house were no more than fifty meters apart, and the use of Uncertainty would only take a moment.

Dr. Morgan held the amulet on his bow tie; he could have given it to Hope right now.

But he was very worried about his safety if he did that.

"If we send Lavinia, will she become suspicious?" the doctor asked.

"No, she won't care. As long as you wrap the amulet in a cloth bag, she won't remember to check it," Hope replied. "However, give her some food, like sausages and fried eggs. She'll be very happy."

"I guess I need to prepare those too," Dr. Morgan said. "Tell me about that note of yours, let me know exactly what it means, I need to confirm it."

"Smash Oliver in the Skull Museum."

"Can we keep it away from us?"

"Probably," Hope replied.

"Aren't you sure?"

"Yes."

"I understand," said Dr. Morgan. "Goodbye."

"Goodbye."

Hope heard rustling sounds and knew that Dr. Morgan was leaving.

He silenced the Transparent Monster, and Monster did indeed quiet down; once no one was outside, the creature became much more docile.

Hope threw the keys back under the bed, half-lying down, and her anxious heart began to calm down.

Dr. Morgan has clearly already taken action, and judging from his words, the situation doesn't seem too bad.

It sounds like Paul is on Dr. Morgan's side.

That's not bad.

Later that evening, just as Dr. Morgan had predicted, Lavinia came to Hope's room carrying a piece of cloth dyed black.

Hope quickly realized it was actually a curtain.

"Paul gave it to you," Lavinia said.

Hope took the question, "Who called you out?"

"Mr. Sawyer."

Mr. Sawyer – Chairman of the Agricultural Committee Sawyer Walter?

Hope did not consider the connection between Mr. Sawyer and Dr. Morgan.

After Lavinia left, Hope put his pocket watch and keys in his pocket.

He carefully spread the curtain fabric on the ground. This fabric was different from the curtain fabrics commonly used in later generations; it was a very thick cotton cloth, which was obviously specially selected by Dr. Morgan.

Hope found what he was looking for in the center of the cotton cloth: a neatly polished hexagonal piece of wood with a twisted five-pointed star engraved on it.

He hesitated for a few seconds, then thought of the stone with the key engraved on it, and tried using the "Exchange" function on the wooden piece.

At the same time, he didn't intend to actually exchange anything, so he didn't look for something to exchange inside his own body.

exchange"

There was nothing in the wood chips that could be exchanged—wood chips are not the same as round or flat stones.

Hope abandoned the idea.

He took the wooden piece and approached the Transparent Monster Transparent Monster, reaching out to touch it.

The water stains left by the Monster in the room grew smaller and smaller, but eventually a small spot remained.

Even so, he's unwilling to leave—is Wilbur really that controlling of this guy—is it because of that spell?

Hope didn't bring the wood chips any closer, worried that something might happen if the chips came into contact with the Monster that he couldn't handle.

He held the piece of wood, lay down on the unfolded curtains, grabbed one edge of the curtains, rolled on the ground, and rolled the curtains around himself.

Close your eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, Hope was already in the storeroom.
