Jack's Ascension Ritual
Professor Rice and Hope chatted for a while.
Hope talked about the medicinal materials he used when facing Wilbur.
Professor Rice shook his head. "Except for the rhizome of the bitter tree, it is not a precious thing. Just use it. As for the rhizome of the bitter tree - that thing is not mine, but Jack's."
"He said this was considered "equipment assistance" for you. After all, he was supposed to leave the knife to you."
Hearing that he was not held accountable, Hope relaxed a little. He asked about Jack: "Jack is also a----um----"
Hope considered the words and finally said, "Is he also an expert in pharmacy?"
Professor Rice shook his head again. "He knows nothing about pharmacy. He is a surgeon. There are indeed some medicines in the box that belong to him, but those are the medicines Dr. Morgan prescribed for him and he collected them himself."
"Is he sick?"
"No, he is very healthy. He prepared those things for other purposes.
Professor Rice paused for a moment, seeming to be thinking about whether to clarify with Hope.
Finally, he continued, "Jack is looking for a Inspiration very powerful creature. The function of those things is to ensure his safety when facing that kind of creature."
Inspiration is very strong----
"He wanted to kill that creature?"
"No - well, if he could do it, he might kill the creature. But that's not his main purpose - do you know Ascension Ritual?"
"I only know that it is a ritual that can improve attributes."
"Then, I have nothing extra to add to you." Professor Rice said, "Jack wants to complete his third Ascension Ritual. But what exactly is Ascension Ritual and how is it done----
Ha, I know almost as much as you do.
"After all, I am not a professional pharmacist like Dr. Morgan. I can only be regarded as an amateur in front of him. Some of the medicines he asked Jack to find, I don't know at all."
Professor Rice seems to have nothing to say.
He checked what was left of Spirit-Infused Water, then said he still had some things to do and left the room.
Elizabeth, who had been standing in the corner since just now, came back.
She did not pick up her book again, but squatted next to Hope.
"Did you ---- stay up all night?" Hope asked.
"Yeah." Elizabeth replied, "But you don't need to worry about me, Professor Armitage promised to give me a week's long vacation."
"But thank you anyway."
Elizabeth nodded. "Are you hungry?"
"If possible----I am indeed a little hungry and would like to drink some water."
Elizabeth walked towards the door, and through the wall Hope could hear her seeming to be talking to Professor Rice. After a while, she came back with bread that should have been reheated and a glass of water.
"Professor Rice only recommends that you eat these." Elizabeth said, "I originally took the sausage, but Professor Rice stopped me."
"To be honest, I'm very satisfied with these." Hope replied, "As long as it's not canned peas."
Probably because it had been reheated, the bread was a little dry and hard. Hope bit it down hard, held it in his mouth, and finished it after a long time.
Fortunately for him, his teeth showed no sign of falling out and were still strong.
"Aren't you going to eat?" Hope asked vaguely, holding the bread in his mouth.
Elizabeth shook her head. She still squatted next to Hope and looked at Hope: "I'm not used to eating at this time."
After a while, she said again, "You look panicked, can you tell me why?"
Hope paused while chewing the bread. "I don't know."
Elizabeth didn't seem to care about his answer, "Now you can actually feel at ease. The professor and Mr. Jack are working hard for Dunwich. You can trust them."
Hope swallowed the last piece of bread, and he could only see Elizabeth's blurry face, but he couldn't see that Elizabeth had actually been watching him eat.
He smiled, "Of course I believe them, I have seen their abilities."
Elizabeth didn't respond to him. After a few seconds, she shook her head, her beautiful brown hair swaying along with her. "No, you don't think so. You subconsciously believe that they will have problems, and you will eventually need to solve them."
Hope wanted to deny it, but the real worry made him speechless.
Elizabeth continued, "But, Hope, when it comes to this kind of thing, even Professor Rice has more experience than you, right?
You are not the savior who can save everyone. In fact, in your current state, you have to wait for others to save you."
Hope opened his mouth, not knowing what to say.
He picked up the water glass and took a sip of water.
He stared at the water in the glass.
Elizabeth took away his water glass and patted him hard.
"Breathe!" Elizabeth said.
Hope felt a large amount of fresh air pouring into his lungs again.
After a long time, he regained his breath.
"What are you thinking about?" Elizabeth asked.
Hope shook his head. "I can't remember clearly - I was probably just distracted."
"This is not a good habit, especially for you now." Elizabeth said.
Even though she said so, bad habits can never be corrected so easily.
Hope has a new understanding of what Professor Rice calls "slight loss of control". This situation of forgetting to breathe is more troublesome than he imagined.
He has almost lost the ability to act alone. He always has to be accompanied by someone at all times.
Elizabeth sighed, "The professors said you killed Wilbur?"
"It's a dog." Hope corrected.
"I know. But more of the credit goes to you."
"Probably----right." Hope replied.
He is a little proud.
"Do you feel like you did a great job?" Elizabeth asked.
Hope was stunned.
For the first time, he heard a scolding tone from Elizabeth's mouth.
Hope has no answer.
But the fact is, he does think so——
When Wilbur fell, a strong excitement overwhelmed the guilt of killing.
Hope The biggest creatures he has ever killed since he was a child are crickets and grasshoppers. As he grows older, his sense of morality gradually makes him afraid to kill even crickets and grasshoppers.
But when he killed Wilbur, the discomfort he felt was far less than he expected.
The kind of excitement that overwhelms the feeling of guilt - it's the pleasure of playing a righteous hero and destroying the bad guys.
Stand in the light----Stand on the moral high ground----Become a hero who can save madness----
For Hope, it is an irresistible temptation.
But Elizabeth said, "You know the consequences now. In addition to breathing problems, the Medicine you take will also cause a lot of damage to your body that cannot be detected----
"Huh, have you ever thought that there are many other ways instead of fighting each other like a fool?"
"Fool"
This word is the most insulting thing Elizabeth has ever said.
Hope guessed that having to take care of two patients at the same time really made her a lot irritated.
Other methods----
In fact, there are, maybe even a lot of them.
It's just that Hope chose the method that excited him the most.
Sacrificing one's life for righteousness----or any other reason----
