Power Progression

Background / History

Tang San is not the original soul of his current body. After the infant body’s death, the Asura God arranged a soul’s entry into the child; however, the soul that ultimately occupied the body was the future dual God King Tang San, rather than the pawn Tang San the Asura God had intended to send. He retained memories of his future life as a dual God King, but lost his former power and entered the new era as an infant. Ao Zhan detected the resulting time-space disturbance and immediately recognized him as a reborn future God King rather than the Tang San originally intended for the Asura God’s plan. 23

Tang San remembered that Xiao Wu had died in his future life and that he had reincarnated to find her reincarnated soul. On recognizing the young Tang Hao holding him, he realized that he had instead returned to Douluo Continent tens of thousands of years earlier, around the time of his own birth. 24

The Asura God and Sea God Poseidon are Tang San’s known divine backers, though they are themselves only part of a larger, unidentified arrangement surrounding him. The Asura God originally selected Tang San as a pawn to oppose Martial Soul Hall, inherit divine power, and bear the burden of faith, while intending for Xiao Wu to improve Tang San’s compatibility with Asura Divine Power. 5 240 317 The Asura God later explained that he intended to use Tang San to seize control of the Divine Realm, then eliminate him and secure power for himself. 392

From childhood, Tang San displayed knowledge and behavior that alarmed Tang Hao. He cultivated using an unfamiliar sunrise technique, developed purple eyes afterward, and practiced movement arts Tang Hao had never seen. Tang Hao considered the possibility that his son had been possessed by an evil soul master. 96

Before awakening his Martial Soul, Tang San relied on Tang Sect techniques and hidden weapons. His attempts to defeat Qi Kuang and Huo Linfei failed because they could use Alien Energy without Martial Soul awakening, leaving Tang San repeatedly humiliated and determined to seek revenge once he gained power. 94

At Holy Soul Village, he awakened Blue Silver Grass and Innate Full Soul Power, then disclosed his second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer, to Tang Hao. Tang Hao subsequently treated Tang San as his hope for revenge against Martial Soul Hall. 97 99 102 Tang Hao was later captured by Martial Soul Hall and killed by Tang Xiao in a confrontation engineered by Ao Zhan. 264 281

Following the failure of his expedition for the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Tang San learned that the well had vanished from Sunset Forest. He incorrectly attributed its removal to Gu Yuena and deduced that it had been concealed in the Star Dou Forest; in reality, Ao Zhan had moved it and never placed it there. 298 299 303

After Shrek’s third-place tournament finish, Tang San briefly questioned whether his entire God King life had been a dream. A radiant figure appeared, claimed, “I am you, but you are not me,” and stated that he had died while Tang San remained alive. The figure knew Tang San’s secret history and urged him to continue cultivating, but deferred a full explanation. 515

Tang San was subsequently imprisoned in Spirit City, where Chang Gongwei rescued him after he suffered sexual assault by his captors. Chang Gongwei addressed him as the first chairman of the Great God Circle, openly demonstrating knowledge of his rebirth. Tang San and Xiao Wu escaped to the Sea God Church, where Poseidon helped restore his Soul Power before the Asura God Trials began. 539 542

Over the following years, Tang San and Xiao Wu fled Bo Saixi and Star Luo pursuers while completing divine trials. Poseidon accelerated Tang San’s cultivation through repeated rewards, but the Blood Sea Trident absorbed his trial rewards, and unstable Asura divine power required suppression. Tang San killed Oscar to fulfill an Asura trial and eventually completed his final Sea God Trial, although the divine position was not transferred at that time. 555

Tang San’s deeper identity was ultimately revealed as the Creation God’s reincarnation. He quickly accepted the revelation, and Chang Gongwei sacrificed himself to strengthen Tang San’s Creation God power and awaken the corresponding memories. 562

Appearance

Tang San’s appearance is closely tied to his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline. Before its removal, the bloodline could transform him into a notably handsome man; after Ah Yin stripped it away, his appearance deteriorated sharply. 217 218

• After losing the bloodline, he had dark, rough skin, withered yellow hair, and a coarse-looking face. 217

Personality

Tang San is deeply convinced that he is the central figure of the continent’s destiny. He views Ao Zhan, Huo Linfei, Qi Kuang, and other deviations from his former life as “variables” that have disrupted the future he believes should belong to him. He expects his experience as a former God King to eventually let him reclaim control of events. 161 212

He is calculating and opportunistic, using Yu Xiaogang to steer Shrek’s expedition into the Star Dou Forest in pursuit of the Eight Spider Lances and later deducing a likely location for the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. 212 300 He can also be highly resentful: defeats, slights, and humiliation repeatedly fuel his desire for revenge against Ao Zhan, Huo Linfei, Qi Kuang, Ah Yin, Gu Yuena, and others. 94 217 305 315 391

Tang San is willing to manipulate or eliminate perceived threats to secure his interests. During the Soul Master Tournament, he regarded Shi Nian’s continued presence as a danger and considered having him removed, while also viewing matches against rival academies as opportunities to collect intelligence and vent his resentment. 345

Despite his pride, Tang San is protective of Xiao Wu and loyal to Tang Hao. He defended Tang Hao when Ao Zhan accused him of plotting against Ah Yin, and he repeatedly places himself between Xiao Wu and danger. 26 230 However, after his humiliation in the Star Dou Forest, he briefly took his anger out on Xiao Wu for failing to comfort him before later apologizing. 316

Following Shrek’s loss to Gu Ningqiu and the public exposure of his branded face, Tang San’s vanity and inability to accept humiliation escalated into fantasies of killing nearly everyone on the continent, altering the survivors’ memories, and replacing reality with a fabricated heroic account of his life and ascension. 440

His concern for reputation continued to shape his behavior. Ganzi’s public disgrace angered Tang San in part because it threatened his own image as a respectful disciple. He was also privately humiliated when Lu Mingfei demonstrated a Self Martial Soul Fusion Skill that he could not perform, and blamed Flender for drawing attention to the comparison. 456 496 497

The gulf between his remembered success and present failures eventually destabilized his confidence in his own identity. After the tournament, he wondered whether he had ever truly been a God King, and the teachers’ praise for Shrek’s third-place finish failed to console him. The mysterious radiant figure’s reassurance stopped short of resolving his confusion. 515

His response to the ninth Asura God Trial distinguishes between Xiao Wu’s voluntary sacrifice in his former life and personally killing her in the present. Although troubled by the demand, he later reassured her that death would not hurt, that her soul could remain in her Spirit Ring, and that he could resurrect her and share his divine position after becoming a god. 555 556

When told that he was the Creation God’s reincarnation, Tang San accepted the revelation in less than three seconds, interpreting his former status, talent, and attractiveness as reasons that the identity suited him. 562

After Xiao Wu was grievously injured, Tang San declared that he would not spare anyone who hurt her, and an internal power abruptly restored his overburdened meridians and raised his aura. He then activated Tool Martial Soul Avatar through his own power, without repeating the team fusion. The Asura God identified the released energy as divine power rather than Soul Power or Alien Energy, noting its close resemblance to Sea God divine power. 511

Divine Trials and Creation God Awakening

Tang San’s later advancement was shaped by competing divine interventions rather than an uninterrupted return to his former strength. Poseidon used divine trial rewards to accelerate his cultivation, while the Asura God deliberately imposed tormenting tasks and used the Blood Sea Trident to absorb rewards. 542 555
