Background

Jia Xingtian served as the Jia Ma Empire’s guardian during a precarious period. He regarded the empire as vulnerable: stronger neighboring states possessed Dou Zong-level strength, the Imperial Family’s guardian beast was ailing, and he believed his own death without a successor at the Dou Zong realm could invite the empire’s partition 76.

Already old and frail at the Peak Dou Emperor realm, he sought a Break-Ancestor Pill to gain a chance at breaking through to Dou Zong. Gu He’s promise of the pill was sufficient to draw him into an expedition to the Snake-People Tribe, although neither he nor Queen Medusa wished to risk a full battle. Gu He’s subsequent inability to refine the pill left Jia Xingtian frustrated, as the required medicinal ingredients had been difficult to gather 43 73.

During the expedition, Gu He asked him to confront Medusa after she defeated Yan Shi and Feng Li. Jia Xingtian released his Peak Dou Emperor aura, but the confrontation ended without a battle, and he withdrew with Gu He after Medusa rejected the proposed exchange for her Heavenly Flame 42 43.

Story Role

Conflict with the Mittel Family and Mu Clan

When Hai Bodong moved against Mu Chen, Jia Xingtian intervened as an imperial representative. Though he recognized that Mu Zhan had likely provoked the incident and doubted much of Mu Chen’s account, he prioritized the Mu Clan’s military and political importance. He ordered the Mittel Family to compensate Mu Chen, partly to restrain the family’s growing influence 74.

This decision placed him against the masked Yan Xiao. After Yan Xiao was revealed as a Sixth-Rank Alchemist capable of refining pills such as the Imperial Extreme Pill—and potentially the Break-Ancestor Pill—Jia Xingtian immediately recognized the magnitude of his mistake. He regretted offending an alchemist who might have secured the Imperial Family’s future 75 76.

Jia Xingtian directly asked whether reconciliation was still possible. When Xiao Yan agreed to refine pills in return for a sufficiently valuable offer, Jia Xingtian bowed to him in gratitude. His attitude toward the Mu Clan changed sharply, although he still refused to personally exchange Mu Chen for Xiao Yan’s bounty: killing an imperial minister would damage the Imperial Family’s reputation and discourage other experts from serving it. He allowed Mu Chen’s clansman to take him away, then unsuccessfully offered Xiao Yan imperial lodging 76 77.

Transaction with Yan Xiao

Seeking reconciliation, Jia Xingtian provided a broker’s fee through the Mittel Family and arranged a meeting with Yan Xiao. He offered information on the Nether Poison Flame in exchange for assistance with a Break-Ancestor Pill 79 80.

The two reached an agreement: Xiao Yan would refine a Break-Ancestor Pill and a Primordial Bone Shaping Pill, while the Imperial Family would provide high-grade fire-attributed treasures, magical-beast heartblood essence, Beast Flames, and information about the Nether Poison Flame. Jia Xingtian also permitted Xiao Yan to obtain resources from the Imperial Family’s Tier 6 Nether Sea Flood Dragon 81.

Jia Xingtian supplied three sets of Break-Ancestor Pill ingredients and ten sets of Primordial Bone Shaping Pill ingredients, allowing Xiao Yan to keep the surplus after completing the pills. Their cooperation secured a standing offer from Xiao Yan to refine future pills for three sets of ingredients without an additional fee. After receiving the Break-Ancestor Pill, Jia Xingtian handed over a map based on intelligence from his agent in the Chu Yun Empire and warned that the newly established Poison Sect was also searching for Heavenly Flames 81.

He later delivered the promised Earth Flame Fruit, Dry Blue Water Flame, Nether Sea Flood Dragon heartblood, and additional high-grade medicinal ingredients 90. At the Alchemist Conference, seeing Yan Xiao’s apparent closeness with Misty Cloud Sect leader Yun Yun troubled Jia Xingtian. He resolved that the Imperial Family could not afford a weaker relationship with the alchemist than the sect had 91.

Alchemist Conference and Three-Year Agreement

Jia Xingtian was among those who came forward to help Xiao Yan against the Pill Lightning during his Seventh-Rank pill refinement. Xiao Yan subsequently acknowledged his willingness to face the danger and treated him warmly, in contrast to the guests who had remained on the sidelines. Those guests recognized that Jia Xingtian and Fama had earned Xiao Yan’s favor through their actions 94 95.

The Earth Flame Fruit and Sixth-Rank Beast Flame he supplied later contributed to Xiao Yan’s breakthrough to Dou Emperor 99.

Jia Xingtian attended the Three-Year Agreement duel in Wutan City. Still unaware that Xiao Yan and Yan Xiao were the same person, he remarked to Fama on the young man’s unusual personal affinity. During the duel, he judged that Nalan Yanran’s Extreme Wind: Sunset Shine had reached the threshold of Dou Ling-level power 102 103.

After the duel, he returned to the Imperial Capital and immediately entered seclusion to attempt his Dou Zong breakthrough. Yun Shan’s advancement had made remaining at Peak Dou Emperor increasingly dangerous for the Imperial Family 105.

Breakthrough and Alliance with Xiao Yan

Jia Xingtian successfully advanced to Dou Zong using Xiao Yan’s Break-Ancestor Pill. In gratitude, he promised to fulfill reasonable requests from Yan Xiao 107.

Initially reluctant to risk a conflict with the Misty Cloud Sect and Yun Shan, Jia Xingtian changed his position after Yan Xiao revealed that he was actually Xiao Yan of the Xiao Clan: a teenager who was both a Dou Emperor and Seventh-Rank Alchemist. Viewing Xiao Yan as an extraordinary investment, Jia Xingtian committed to joining the attack on the Misty Cloud Sect 108.

His initial hesitation reflected more than the danger of a personal defeat. He believed that two Dou Zongs could restrain one another domestically while improving the empire’s position against neighboring states, whereas a serious injury in battle with Yun Shan could endanger the entire country. Once Xiao Yan revealed his identity, Jia Xingtian instead saw supporting him as an opportunity for the Imperial Family to rise further 107 108.

The Imperial Family resumed its military drills near Misty Cloud Mountain after Jia Xingtian’s breakthrough; it had withdrawn its troops when Yun Shan first reached Dou Zong 109. During the confrontation, Jia Xingtian accepted responsibility for holding Yun Shan back. His presence forced Yun Shan to acknowledge that a direct fight would be dangerous, especially because Yun Shan’s secret-method breakthrough had left him weaker than an ordinary Dou Zong 110.

When Yan Luotian appeared as Yun Shan’s reinforcement, Xiao Yan again assigned Yun Shan to Jia Xingtian while taking on Yan Luotian himself. Xiao Yan killed the Two-Star Dou Zong with Flame Burst Fist, leaving Jia Xingtian responsible for confronting Yun Shan 111.

Continued Support

After the Misty Cloud Sect affair, Jia Xingtian sent Xiao Yan most of the Imperial Family’s accumulated medicinal ingredients, effectively placing the Imperial Family within Xiao Yan’s sphere of influence 115.

He remained in the Jia Ma Empire rather than accompany Xiao Yan to the Black-Corner Region. As a one-star Dou Zong, he was needed to guard the empire against threats from neighboring powers, making the Jia Ma Empire a secure base for Xiao Yan’s forces 140.

Later, he visited Yan City with Fama, Yun Shan, Mittel Teng Shan, and Xiao Zhan for the Vientiane Auction. By then, the Jia Ma Empire had escaped its former isolation, aided by Xiao Yan’s protection and the Snake-People Empire’s friendly relations 194 197. When Shi Jing, a stronger Dou Zong from the Lion Underworld Sect, pressured Xiao Zhan and Mittel Teng Shan to surrender their auction Black Cards, the two moved closer to Jia Xingtian, Fama, and Yun Shan for protection. The three Dou Zongs deterred most onlookers, but Shi Jing was undeterred; Xiao Ding arrived and challenged his conduct before the group yielded the cards 195.

Jia Xingtian personally confronted Shi Jing, who nevertheless claimed that the Lion Underworld Sect could overpower their backing. After Xiao Ding ordered Shi Jing to leave Yan City for threatening Tian Shu’s guests and violating its rules, Shi Jing attacked him, only for Xiao Yan to arrive and block the blow 195.

Jia Xingtian subsequently joined the gathering at which Xiao Yan received reports on the empire and his allied families. The conquest of the Luo Yan Empire by the Snake-People and their declaration of friendly relations with Jia Ma removed one neighboring threat. The Chu Yun and Mulan empires also ceased threatening Jia Ma, with Xiao Yan’s protection serving as a major deterrent 197.

The Imperial Family’s alignment endured: Xiao Yan later regarded the Jia Ma Empire as one of his most loyal forces, while its eldest princess Yao Ye served as Xiao Ding’s assistant 330.

Personality

Jia Xingtian is cautious, politically minded, and deeply concerned with the Jia Ma Empire’s survival. His first instinct is to preserve the existing balance of power, even when that means protecting the Mu Clan or avoiding a potentially damaging battle 74 77.

His caution can become short-sighted. He initially undervalued Yan Xiao and sided with the Mu Clan, but quickly reassessed his stance once Xiao Yan’s alchemical ability and potential became clear. His later choices—supplying resources, seeking cooperation, and supporting Xiao Yan against the Misty Cloud Sect—show a willingness to decisively invest when he recognizes a greater opportunity 75 108.

He remained attentive to the political implications of Xiao Yan’s other connections: at the Alchemist Conference, Xiao Yan’s familiarity with Yun Yun prompted him to consider paying a greater price to secure the Imperial Family’s relationship with the alchemist 91.

Despite his usual caution, he was willing to approach the dangerous Pill Lightning to help Xiao Yan. Xiao Yan explicitly acknowledged this action, strengthening their relationship 94 95.
