Background / History

Yun Yun entered the Magical Beast Mountain Range to obtain Purple Spirit Crystal, needed for medicinal pills intended to strengthen her disciple, Nalan Yanran, before the Three-Year Agreement. She fought the Amethyst Winged Lion King but was wounded and sealed by its Amethyst Seal after Xiao Yan intervened in their battle. Xiao Yan found her unconscious, brought her to a small valley, and had Xiao Yi Xian treat her injuries. 11 12

Using the name Yun Zhi, she accepted Xiao Yan's demand that she serve under him for one month in exchange for her rescue and treatment. Though initially resentful of the coercive arrangement, she quickly recovered and regained her full cultivation. 12 14 18

Once restored, Yun Yun assisted Xiao Yan in hunting the Magical Beast Mountain Range's Tier Six overlords for their essence blood. During the battle against the Half-Step Tier Seven Silver Moon Wolf King, she followed Xiao Yan's ambush plan and severely wounded the beast with a surprise attack. After Xiao Yan shielded her from its final attack, she killed the Wolf King with Extreme Wind: Meteor Kill. 20 21 22

Her experiences with Xiao Yan caused her to reconsider the burdens of sect leadership. After he risked his life to protect her, she privately imagined a future with him and considered grooming Nalan Yanran to succeed her once the Three-Year Agreement was settled. 24

Before departing for the Misty Cloud Sect, Yun Yun received the Purple Spirit Crystal she had originally sought and agreed to meet Xiao Yan again at the Jia Ma Empire's Alchemist Conference. She also promised to gather Beast Flames for him in exchange for his pill refinement. 21 25

After leaving the mountain range, Yun Yun attempted to steal Queen Medusa's Heavenly Flame but was discovered, defeated in a single exchange, and imprisoned by the Snake-People Tribe. Xiao Yan later intervened when Medusa ordered her execution, openly calling Yun Yun his “best partner.” 35 44

Following her rescue, Yun Yun explained that she had originally intended to reveal her identity when she delivered the flames at the Alchemist Conference. Xiao Yan also arranged Nalan Yanran's release while asking Yun Yun to conceal his involvement. Yue Mei subsequently removed Yun Yun's seal, restoring her cultivation before master and disciple departed. 45 46 47

Yun Yun subsequently reflected on her repeated failures and recognized that she had overestimated her own abilities. While traveling with Nalan Yanran, she exposed and killed Mo Cheng after he drugged them, having delayed retaliation to learn the location of the Wind Fury Dragon Flame. She then pursued the flame, unaware that Xiao Yan had acquired it first. 57 58

At their reunion, Xiao Yan revealed that his identities as Xiao Huo and Yan Xiao were both false, then disclosed that he was Xiao Yan of the Xiao Clan—Nalan Yanran's former fiancé. Yun Yun struggled with the implications of this revelation but did not wish to sever their bond. She had collected one Sixth-Rank and four Fifth-Rank Beast Flames for him, and he gave her medicinal pills, including an Imperial Extreme Pill, in return. She handed over the Beast Flame seeds in a Storage Ring at the Alchemist Conference. 83 84 91

Before the Three-Year Agreement, Yun Yun brought Nalan Yanran to apologize to Xiao Zhan. She acknowledged her own responsibility for approving the broken engagement without making proper arrangements, allowing the incident to appear as an abuse of the Misty Cloud Sect's power. Although she knew Nalan Yanran could not defeat Xiao Yan, she ultimately allowed her disciple to take the risky Three-Pattern Green Spirit Pill so that she could fight without lingering regrets. 102

After Nalan Yanran's defeat, Yun Yun sought Xiao Yan's advice about her disciple's growing suspicions of his identity. He permitted her to reveal the truth or send Nalan Yanran to ask him directly. When confronted by her disciple, Yun Yun directed her to seek his explanation rather than continue concealing the connection between Xiao Yan and Yan Xiao. 104 105

During Xiao Yan's subsequent visit to the Misty Cloud Sect, he openly called Yun Yun “Yun'er” and declared that he would choose her rather than Nalan Yanran. Although he admitted that he had partly intended to discourage Nalan Yanran's feelings, he also indicated that his words were not entirely feigned, leaving Yun Yun hopeful about his affection. 109

When Yun Shan attempted to seize Xiao Yan's pills through an ambush at the Misty Cloud Sect, Yun Yun chose to oppose her master rather than help him. She declared that Yun Shan would have to step over her to harm Xiao Yan. 110

Following the conflict with Yun Shan and Soul Hall's Protector Wu, Yun Yun resigned as Sect Master. She decided to travel and train in the Central Plains, intending to improve her own strength. Before her departure, Xiao Yan gave her a wisp of the Myriad Beast Spirit Flame to maintain contact. 114

After arriving in the Central Plains, Yun Yun initially struggled because her Dou Emperor cultivation, formidable in the Jia Ma Empire, placed her only at the middle level there. She was repeatedly targeted until her aptitude for soundwave Dou Skills enabled her to join Music Valley. 311

Within Music Valley, Yun Yun proved exceptionally compatible with the inheritance left behind by the Music Valley Ancestor. While searching for Heavenly Flames and powerful Beast Flames for Xiao Yan, Yun Yun discovered a Heavenly Flame in an ancient secret realm formerly owned by an Eighth-Rank Peak Alchemist. The flame was attracted to the remnant of Xiao Yan's Myriad Beast Spirit Flame within her, allowing her to collect it despite stronger competitors. Music Valley's leadership repeatedly pressured Yun Yun to surrender the flame in exchange for a life-extending High Eighth-Tier medicinal pill for Yin Di. Yun Yun refused, insisting that she had gathered the flame for someone precious to her and promising to seek another solution for the Valley Master. 298 299 305

Xiao Yan eventually came to Music Valley seeking the flame. Recognizing one another through the names “Yun Zhi” and “Yan Xiao,” the two reunited warmly, and Yun Yun immediately agreed to give him the flame. Xiao Yan then revealed his identity and status as an Eighth-Rank Alchemist, offering to refine the medicinal pill Music Valley required instead. 305 306

When Yin Yuan attacked Xiao Yan and was injured by his retaliation, Yun Yun defended him against the Valley Master's accusations. She argued that Yin Yuan had struck first and should accept the consequences of her defeat. However, the Valley Master's appeal to Yun Yun's debt toward the ancestor's legacy left her conflicted until Xiao Yan intervened on her behalf. 307 308

After Fire Cloud Ancestor and Xiao Yan subdued Music Valley's hostile leadership, Yin Di was compelled to relinquish the position of Valley Master to Yun Yun. With Yin Yuan eliminated and Xiao Yan promising alchemical support, the Music Valley elders formally endorsed Yun Yun as their new Valley Master. 309 310

In private, Yun Yun gave Xiao Yan the Turtle Spirit Earthfire, the Thirteenth-ranked Heavenly Flame, which he subsequently absorbed. She also shared the hardships she had endured in the Central Plains and agreed to take control of Music Valley properly and help develop the Tian Shu Alliance. 310 311

During Xiao Yan's five-day seclusion to absorb the Nine Dragon Lightning Flame and Turtle Spirit Earthfire, the former Valley Master formally transferred Music Valley's leadership to Yun Yun. When Xiao Yan emerged and prepared to leave, she promised to consolidate as much authority as possible to help him in the future. Although reluctant to part, she accepted that he needed to continue his preparations for his Three-Year Agreement with the Ancient Clan. Personality

Yun Yun is deeply devoted to her responsibilities as both a sect leader and Nalan Yanran's master. Her decision to confront the Amethyst Winged Lion King stemmed from her desire to secure resources that could help Nalan Yanran overcome Xiao Yan in the Three-Year Agreement. 11

She is caring and protective toward those close to her. Even while facing the Silver Moon Wolf King, she promised Xiao Yan that she would protect him and get him away if their plan failed. After he was injured shielding her, she was distraught and urgently pushed him to save himself. 21 22

Despite her dignified exterior, Yun Yun is capable of self-reflection. Her imprisonment by Medusa and the later incident with Mo Cheng made her acknowledge that her growth had been too smooth and that she needed a clearer understanding of her limits. 58

She is also willing to accept responsibility for her own mistakes as a teacher. In arranging Nalan Yanran's apology to the Xiao Clan, Yun Yun admitted that her failure to oversee the dissolution of the engagement properly had contributed to the humiliation inflicted on the Xiao Clan. 102
